The space

Bright modern studio, in a rural setting surrounded by dairy farms, it overlooks the beautiful Lough Derg the River Shannon’s pleasure lake. Killaloe Ballina is considered among Ireland’s most picturesque towns, the small towns are linked by a 300-year-old arch stone bridge and can trace their history back to the 10th century. It is the birthplace of Brian Boru High King of Ireland.

The area offers many leisure activities including, fishing (guided trips are available) sailing, walking, cycling (bike hire available) and golf. Our local park has an open-air heated swimming pool (summer months only) with free outdoor gym facilities.

The towns enjoy a popular restaurant scene ranging from Bistros to traditional Irish, Italian, Chinese and Indian. There is a lively pub scene with evenings of traditional Irish music and some dancing.

We are well served with a local Italian deli/coffee bar, bakers, butcher, organic & health food shop, and supermarket. The Sunday Farmers market is a wonderful source for fresh produce, bread, meat, vegetables, cheese, and fish when available.

Welcome pack of provisions provided to include tea, coffee, milk, homemade bread, preserves, cereals, oils, butter etc.
Depending on the season fresh vegetables/salads are available from the garden

Towels, linen, hairdryer & iron provided.

The apartment is open plan, with a mezzanine bedroom (at the top only some ducking required for those 6ft or more to negotiate stairs.) the area includes a double bed, with lots of space for clothes, which also doubles up as a perfect spot for a baby cot. From your bed, you have delightful views of the garden and across the lake to the Clare Hills.

The Ground floor has a spacious shower and toilet.

The main living/dining area has double doors leading onto a conservatory overlooking the garden & lake which is set up with a small table & chairs.
Outside of this, you have your own decking area with garden furniture, possible a hammock perfect for daydreaming and star gazing.

The open plan fitted kitchen has a Cooker, Hob, Fridge, Freezer & Microwave, with plenty of food preparation equipment and utensils. There is WiFi, TV & DVD player with a small selection of DVD’d. Books and magazine are also available.

The washing machine is in the utility room of the main house and is shared.

The garden is spacious with ample seating/lounging & dining facilities. Use of BBQ equipment.

Cold bags, flasks, folding chairs etc available for away day excursions and picnics.

The distance from the house to the bridge which is the centre of the towns is one mile, it's an easy walk, for the first part of the walk you are on a country road, sharing it with local traffic - cars, vans and farm machinery - after a half a mile you reach footpaths. I recommend wearing a high viz jacket, I have these available.

For Killaloe/ Ballina take Junction 27 off the M7 motorway. The M7 links Dublin (2.5 hrs) & Limerick (30 minutes). Sat Nav (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

Shannon airport is 45 minutes away/58km by motorway.
Dublin Airport has direct motorway access and can be reached in around 2 hours

There is plenty of parking. Well behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement, the garden is large and secure. I have two dogs a whippet and a cheeky energetic spaniel mix.

Heating is by oil fired central heating and will be charged for accordingly at the end of the stay, it is very reasonable. See house rules.

Guest access

You are more than welcome to use the garden, if you feel you are missing yours, you are welcome to tend mine !

Interaction with guests

This is really up to the guests, I live in the main house full time in Summer and do potter about in the garden. My dogs have full use of the garden at all times.

Other things to note

I am based in rural Ireland and our broadband speeds reflect this, it's fine for picking up mails, searching websites, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), but not really up to a load of streaming

Mary's place was everything you could ever want in a place. It was beautiful, secluded, and in a stunning area. Everything you could need is in this cozy studio. There is a television with a DVD player and a lot of movies provided. Mary provided a lot of information for things to do around the town. Mary was very friendly and provided a ton of supplies for us. The bread was delicious and there was a wide selection of food and drinks provided. If you are looking for a great retreat for an amazing price, you need to stay at Mary's place immediately.

Mary's place is extraordinary! The cottage is spotlessly clean and cozy, her garden lovely and the view from the bedroom and conservatory, breathtaking. Mary provided staples as well as special treats of Irish cheddar cheese and smoked salmon and her sister Ann's home baked brown bread. Mary was so very helpful in providing trip information for incredible places such as the Cliffs of Moher and the Rock of Cashel. To date, Mary's place is my favorite Airbnb; I loved everything about it.

The views from Mary's studio are spectacular, utterly gorgeous. In fair weather, you can sit overlooking the lawn, lake and mountains and soak it all in for hours. No less inviting, however, are the charming personalities of Mary and her sister Ann. They truly made us feel like members of the family. The studio itself is perfect for two people--spacious, clean, beautifully appointed and comfortable. The views from the loft are, again, unforgettable. The twin villages of Killaoe-Ballina are appealing, too, with lots of interesting history and many good restaurants to choose. We especially liked Pipers Inn and Cherry Tree. On top of it all, Mary's place is a very good value. We simply can't wait to return on our next trip to Ireland. Thank you, Mary and Ann. Next time, let's have another rollicking "dog party!"

Mary was a fantastic host! This would have to be one of the nicest Airb'n'b's I hav stayed in... lovely and quiet, and surrounded by Mary's beautiful gardens. I absolutely loved staying with Mary and her gorgeous dogs! Everything was perfect, and Mary was so lovely to have a chat with - she even helped me get in contact with people about finding work. Thank you again Mary, I had a wonderful stay :-)

Mary was a phenomenal host and we could not have asked for a better experience. Mary and her sister were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. They made us feel right at home and very comfortable. The views were amazing and we loved spending time at the apartment and playing with the dogs! This accommodation was very close to a wonderful little town with excellent food and friendly people. This is by far the best airbnb we've ever stayed in and we wish we could've spent more time here!

The seclusion and privacy were amazing, yet if we had a question either Mary or Ann were right there to give us all the help we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked and there was a loaf of home made brown soda bread ready for us when we arrived, with a frig full of things so we could make our selves a great Irish Breakfast. We enjoyed fresh vegetables from the garden and we were able to play with the pups too. It just does not get any better than this studio over looking Lough Derg. Mary was even able to dial in the perfect weather and "Tipp" won the national Hurling Championship while we were there. We will defiantly be staying with Mary and Ann again when we are in Tipperary.

I spend my time between Ireland and London where I was in business for many years. In 2012 I was a volunteer for the London Olympics, which was a great experience and where I first heard about Airbnb.

I am a keen gardener and enjoy walking with my 2 dogs, one a fun loving spaniel cross and the other a more reserved whippet. I also like to travel combining eating out with general sightseeing.
