Bright modern studio, in a rural setting surrounded by dairy farms, it overlooks the beautiful Lough Derg the River Shannon’s pleasure lake. Killaloe Ballina is considered among Ireland’s most picturesque towns, the small towns are linked by a 300-year-old arch stone bridge and can trace their history back to the 10th century. It is the birthplace of Brian Boru High King of Ireland.
The area offers many leisure activities including, fishing (guided trips are available) sailing, walking, cycling (bike hire available) and golf. Our local park has an open-air heated swimming pool (summer months only) with free outdoor gym facilities.
The towns enjoy a popular restaurant scene ranging from Bistros to traditional Irish, Italian, Chinese and Indian. There is a lively pub scene with evenings of traditional Irish music and some dancing.
We are well served with a local Italian deli/coffee bar, bakers, butcher, organic & health food shop, and supermarket. The Sunday Farmers market is a wonderful source for fresh produce, bread, meat, vegetables, cheese, and fish when available.
Welcome pack of provisions provided to include tea, coffee, milk, homemade bread, preserves, cereals, oils, butter etc.
Depending on the season fresh vegetables/salads are available from the garden
Towels, linen, hairdryer & iron provided.
The apartment is open plan, with a mezzanine bedroom (at the top only some ducking required for those 6ft or more to negotiate stairs.) the area includes a double bed, with lots of space for clothes, which also doubles up as a perfect spot for a baby cot. From your bed, you have delightful views of the garden and across the lake to the Clare Hills.
The Ground floor has a spacious shower and toilet.
The main living/dining area has double doors leading onto a conservatory overlooking the garden & lake which is set up with a small table & chairs.
Outside of this, you have your own decking area with garden furniture, possible a hammock perfect for daydreaming and star gazing.
The open plan fitted kitchen has a Cooker, Hob, Fridge, Freezer & Microwave, with plenty of food preparation equipment and utensils. There is WiFi, TV & DVD player with a small selection of DVD’d. Books and magazine are also available.
The washing machine is in the utility room of the main house and is shared.
The garden is spacious with ample seating/lounging & dining facilities. Use of BBQ equipment.
Cold bags, flasks, folding chairs etc available for away day excursions and picnics.
The distance from the house to the bridge which is the centre of the towns is one mile, it's an easy walk, for the first part of the walk you are on a country road, sharing it with local traffic - cars, vans and farm machinery - after a half a mile you reach footpaths. I recommend wearing a high viz jacket, I have these available.
For Killaloe/ Ballina take Junction 27 off the M7 motorway. The M7 links Dublin (2.5 hrs) & Limerick (30 minutes). Sat Nav (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
Shannon airport is 45 minutes away/58km by motorway.
Dublin Airport has direct motorway access and can be reached in around 2 hours
There is plenty of parking. Well behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement, the garden is large and secure. I have two dogs a whippet and a cheeky energetic spaniel mix.
Heating is by oil fired central heating and will be charged for accordingly at the end of the stay, it is very reasonable. See house rules.
You are more than welcome to use the garden, if you feel you are missing yours, you are welcome to tend mine !
Interaction with guests
This is really up to the guests, I live in the main house full time in Summer and do potter about in the garden. My dogs have full use of the garden at all times.
Other things to note
I am based in rural Ireland and our broadband speeds reflect this, it's fine for picking up mails, searching websites, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), but not really up to a load of streaming
No smoking on the premises. I would appreciate outside shoes being left in the conservatory, outdoor shoes provided for garden use. Please keep pets off the furniture, they are also not allowed upstairs, dog bed/bowls can be supplied. Child/dog gate available to cut off stairs.
Oil fired central heating when used reading will be taken from oil tank before and at the end of the stay, it's an economical system and very effective. Regular daily electricity use is included in the studio price.
I spend my time between Ireland and London where I was in business for many years. In 2012 I was a volunteer for the London Olympics, which was a great experience and where I first heard about Airbnb.
I am a keen gardener and enjoy walking with my 2 dogs, one a fun loving spaniel cross and the other a more reserved whippet. I also like to travel combining eating out with general sightseeing.
