About this listing
An elegant garden studio 7 minutes' walk to Richmond station and centre, as well as Kew Gardens. Newly renovated with raised ceiling. Handmade furniture, luxury double bathroom and kingsize bed. Excellent public transport links to central London.
Part of a converted Edwardian property, the studio is set at the back of a family home with independent access via the family's mature olive and rose-lined garden. Please be aware that there are sometimes small children living at the property. It is fully self-contained with its own luxurious bathroom including large standalone bath and a close-away French kitchenette (fridge/freezer, electric hob, electric kettle and basic kitchen utensils including plates, pans, cutlery, glasses, cups etc).
Traditional period styling with minimalist twist ensures that the apartment is both elegant and cosy with handcrafted furniture and a very comfortable kingsize bed.
The property is approximately 7 minutes' walk from Richmond overland train station (fast train to Waterloo) and district line tube and benefits from being close to world-renowned Kew Gardens, the Old Deer Park with its open air swimming pool and quaint Kew Village as well as the boutiques and restaurants of Richmond town centre. Major bus routes to central London and Kingston run 24 hours nearby.
Via private gated lane next to main house and private garden which is shared only with the family or with the guests staying in our apartment if we are away.
Interaction with Guests
I live in the main house with my family and am generally on hand to offer local tips, help with anything you may need and and a friendly face. Our guests come back again and again. Some have become good friends, others prefer to be completely independent and enjoy total privacy. We're happy to cater to both types.
Richmond, and particularly the location of this studio, offers both proximity to central London as well as total escape from city life. Kew Gardens can be seen from outside the main house, the historic Old Deer Park is a few minutes away, the site of the original Richmond Palace is a lovely walk along the river, Richmond Park is within reach as is the riverside trail towards Hampton Court in one direction and Central London in the other. There is a plethora of world cuisine quite literally on our doorstep as well as some hidden gems in Richmond itself and in nearby Kew. (Personal favourites include the atmospheric cafe at Petersham Nurseries, the Saturday organic market in Heron Square - and the craft market the next day - and Ham House with its cafe and shop in the gardens and the terraced gardens on Richmond Hill itself.) There is also some great shopping to be done on Richmond high street and hill. Cafes and meeting places as well as quiet spots to work or dream abound, whatever the time of year.
The 65 bus runs day and night between Kingston and central London. Mainline overland train station and district line tube is 7 minutes walk from the studio. There is metered parking nearby on Kew Road (free from late afternoon and overnight) and free parking in nearby residential streets towards Kew.
Other Things to Note
Parking is possible in nearby residential streets towards Kew (see Stanmore Road for restricted parking and nearby Gainsborough for unlimited parking) and at certain times unpaid on the main road outside and metered parking at other times. When we are away, I am happy to offer my own parking space (by agreement). Bikes can be stored behind a locked gate in the private garden. Please note, there have been some major updates to the decking and garden recently which we hope to reflect in new pictures asap!
The studio is set behind a family home so guests are kindly asked to behave responsibly and with respect. No smoking/candles/live flames. Guests are welcome to make use of the garden though with families living close by we're looking for guests who will appreciate the quiet setting so we do request no parties, events, loud music or guests without prior written approval.
