Brent was very gracious and thorough in his explanations of how things worked in the house. There are other quests and roommates, which gives the place a busy feel. The place could use some repairs, cleaning and upkeep. The room where we stayed was clean, as were the bathrooms. The mattress was superlative. The neighborhood, at first glance, was discouraging. Regardless of appearances, it was a very pleasant stay. The roommates were cordial and friendly. The cats were exemplary ambassadors of good will. We enjoyed the urban farm aspect: ducks, chickens (fresh eggs), and pigeons. Brent was very kind as well as gracious. We felt welcome. When we come to SLC again, we will return.
Brent was great with responses, unfortunately I couldn't stay the duration of my booked visit as I am allergic to cat hair, and there was a lovely cat at his house. Pretty busy home!
I only stayed there for a night, its a beautiful place and the house is really nice. There is also a nice cat and the eggs were great!
This was my husbands and my first airbnb experience so don't have anything to compare it with other than hotel stays.
- Brent was very responsive
- location was easy to find and near the center of town
- sheets were clean, clean towel was provided
- let us do our laundry
- comfortable room
Could have been better:
- when we knocked on the door, a lady answered and acted very suspicious of us. This could have been because there are a few seedy neighbors. However, as soon as we mentioned airbnb, we were welcomed into the home.
- there were great instructions explaining our stay and what we could in the house but we didn't notice them until we left. Wish we knew about those upon arrival.
- while people were pleasant and answered the questions we had, it very much felt like we were intruding in someone's home. But, that's fair enough, considering this is someone else's home.
Overall, a fine first experience and a fair deal. Thank you for your hospitality Urban Farm!
I'm sorry you felt like you were intruding in our home. I am not sure who the lady was who looked at you suspiciously. I am going to ask around. I feel bad because that is not the vibe I aim for at all. I wish you would have felt more welcome and that I had been home during that time to make sure of it.
I very much appreciated my interactions with Brent, who is generous with his time and energy in keeping the place going. He responded to all inquiries quickly, courteously, and in detail. He's a stand-up guy. The room was just fine, especially for the price; my only two bits of constructive criticism on the room would be to ensure that the sliding door closes more completely to seal out more noise, and to offer a fan or something to improve air circulation on hot days. I also enjoyed the two housecats and the free eggs. The neighborhood is established and working-class, not antiseptic; I felt right at home, and the location is excellent for access to transit or just walking about (for reference, I made it on foot to Urgyen Samten Ling gonpa in about 45 minutes, at a leisurely pace). The noise level was occasionally too much for me in the house, and the kitchen & upstairs bath were out of control with regard to lack of cleanliness when I was there (Brent was working hard at cleaning up the day I left--I don't hold him wholly responsible for this problem). Overall: recommend Brent as a host, and recommend the forest room with some qualifications.
Brent was amazingly hospitable and friendly. His house is in a great location to accessing much of Salt Lake City, although the neighborhood feels a bit run down. But that cannot be helped. The backyard was equipped with a lovely little garden, a firepit, roaming chickens and even a new pool. There were fresh eggs, as promised. Brent let me use the fridge, stove and laundry facilities, which I really appreciated. The room looks almost as it is pictured, although it appears a little more used than might be let on. But for the price and a place to sleep and store my things, it was well worth it.
We had a lovely stay. It was definitely family friendly- my daughter fell in love with their cute pet cats.
I was only here for a night during a layover- I was pleased to find a very comfortable bed for a tired traveller!
