The Space

Welcome! We have shared accommodation, as well as private guest rooms to serve you!

Accommodation: Queen sized bed in the Salt Lake City Downtown Neighborhood--right in the middle of all that's weird and wonderful about Salt Lake City.

Your bed is in the Forest Room, on the main level of the main house. There is a full bath and kitchen. We have a large garden, sun-room and patio complete with fire-pit and grill as well as indoor commons area with TV for movie nights. We invite you to hang out anywhere and as much as you like.

Come enjoy Salt Lake City's a cornucopia of funky and independent shops, galleries, bars & restaurants as well as large scale shopping centers and grocers. We've got amazing breweries; Epic, Uinta, Wasatch, Squatters, amazing Thai at Chanon Thai, several incredible pizzerias such as Settebello's Napoliana style pizza, a tea shop, 2 French bakeries, the delicious Banbury Cross Donuts, all within a few blocks. Catch a flick at the Broadway theatre, live music at the Urban Lounge or a show at Capitol Theater.

We have frequent block sized art gallery strolls. Check to see if there's one during your stay. Downtown Alliance Farmer's Market is every Saturday from June until October. You'll see washboard bands, teen violinists, bicycle pianos, Native American drumming circles at liberty park, fab art and funky attire all within walking distance of our front door.

Portions of the Urban farm are dedicated to well... farming. Feel free to check out our quirky birds and see what the garden is growing. Also, we are pet friendly!

We are on several major bus lines and one block from a designated city bike share route. By car we are 10 minutes from the airport, City Creek Mall, Temple Square and the Salt Palace Convention Center.

Feel free to stay as long as you like...we want our home to feel like home to you while you're here!

Guests should expect fresh linens and towels, complimentary coffee, fresh free-range organic chicken and duck eggs, complimentary Wifi. Guests will have a house manual with instructions, FAQ and local guide.

Lastly, this is a full home. It is likely you will other guests and housemates. We do our best to accommodate everyone. As such we have among the lowest rates in town. I will say that our home is not the Ritz. If you expect that then you will be disappointed. We've been told we have a hostel feel. This is the feel we are going for and these are the types of guests we hope to attract. If you are going to be rude or critical of our home then please book at a hotel. If you are going to be down to earth, friendly, respectful and communicative then we do our best to do the same and we would love to host you :)

If you need an additional twin bed let me know a week prior to your arrival and I can put it in the room

  • Brent was very gracious and thorough in his explanations of how things worked in the house. There are other quests and roommates, which gives the place a busy feel. The place could use some repairs, cleaning and upkeep. The room where we stayed was clean, as were the bathrooms. The mattress was superlative. The neighborhood, at first glance, was discouraging. Regardless of appearances, it was a very pleasant stay. The roommates were cordial and friendly. The cats were exemplary ambassadors of good will. We enjoyed the urban farm aspect: ducks, chickens (fresh eggs), and pigeons. Brent was very kind as well as gracious. We felt welcome. When we come to SLC again, we will return.

  • Brent was great with responses, unfortunately I couldn't stay the duration of my booked visit as I am allergic to cat hair, and there was a lovely cat at his house. Pretty busy home!

  • This was my husbands and my first airbnb experience so don't have anything to compare it with other than hotel stays.

    - Brent was very responsive
    - location was easy to find and near the center of town
    - sheets were clean, clean towel was provided
    - let us do our laundry
    - comfortable room

    Could have been better:
    - when we knocked on the door, a lady answered and acted very suspicious of us. This could have been because there are a few seedy neighbors. However, as soon as we mentioned airbnb, we were welcomed into the home.
    - there were great instructions explaining our stay and what we could in the house but we didn't notice them until we left. Wish we knew about those upon arrival.
    - while people were pleasant and answered the questions we had, it very much felt like we were intruding in someone's home. But, that's fair enough, considering this is someone else's home.

Overall, a fine first experience and a fair deal. Thank you for your hospitality Urban Farm!

    Response from Brent:

I'm sorry you felt like you were intruding in our home. I am not sure who the lady was who looked at you suspiciously. I am going to ask around. I feel bad because that is not the vibe I aim for at all. I wish you would have felt more welcome and that I had been home during that time to make sure of it.

  • I very much appreciated my interactions with Brent, who is generous with his time and energy in keeping the place going. He responded to all inquiries quickly, courteously, and in detail. He's a stand-up guy. The room was just fine, especially for the price; my only two bits of constructive criticism on the room would be to ensure that the sliding door closes more completely to seal out more noise, and to offer a fan or something to improve air circulation on hot days. I also enjoyed the two housecats and the free eggs. The neighborhood is established and working-class, not antiseptic; I felt right at home, and the location is excellent for access to transit or just walking about (for reference, I made it on foot to Urgyen Samten Ling gonpa in about 45 minutes, at a leisurely pace). The noise level was occasionally too much for me in the house, and the kitchen & upstairs bath were out of control with regard to lack of cleanliness when I was there (Brent was working hard at cleaning up the day I left--I don't hold him wholly responsible for this problem). Overall: recommend Brent as a host, and recommend the forest room with some qualifications.

  • Brent was amazingly hospitable and friendly. His house is in a great location to accessing much of Salt Lake City, although the neighborhood feels a bit run down. But that cannot be helped. The backyard was equipped with a lovely little garden, a firepit, roaming chickens and even a new pool. There were fresh eggs, as promised. Brent let me use the fridge, stove and laundry facilities, which I really appreciated. The room looks almost as it is pictured, although it appears a little more used than might be let on. But for the price and a place to sleep and store my things, it was well worth it.

I have been in Salt Lake City for 4 years now where I work for a very large data service/protection company. I build furniture, restore things, travel, snowboard, cook, garden and enjoy being social. I have 5 quirky ducks, 20 hilarious chickens and two bunnies. I want you to feel at home so I'll do what I can to prepare you for a comfortable and easy stay. I'll help with any questions you may have of the city or neighborhood. I speak Italian and Spanish In life, I believe in communication, respect and freedom.
