It was difficult to find Caê's gem of a home but he had warned us that it wasn't easy. Luckily we had his phone number and the lady who was transporting us was able to call him for specifics. We arrived on a rainy day. As we transported our luggage inside and dried off, Caê and his father welcomed us with fresh orange juice and warm puff pastries with cheese inside. He showed us our rooms. Mine was downstairs and had a mosquito net over the bed if I wanted to use it, and both of our beds had towels and soap set out ready for our arrival. I had a bathroom around the corner without a shower and Frederique has a bathroom with a shower she would be sharing upstairs. We discussed it amongst ourselves and did however decide that simply the location of the house would not work for us. I have a bum knee and Frederique has a bad lower back. The slate stairs from the road were slick due to the rain and the lovely interior stairs were marble and also worried Frederique. I was very embarrassed to cancel at such a late date, but as I explained to Caê, we would be doing much walking and transport by Taxi, and it wasn't he or his house, but where his house was located. He was gracious and helpful. He set up both of our phones with wifi so we could contact our friends at a nearby hotel. They said their hotel was full, so Caê suggested we walk down his neighborhood with him to find another hotel. He pointed out banks, drug stores, restaurants, and greeted several friends. Once our hotel was secured, he walked home and loaded all of our belongings into a cab and delivered it himself. He also asked us to contact him if we needed anything. We did. We spent an entire day with him in the Centro district. He took us on the Metro and took us to a large open market, a historical library, a lovely lunch spot, and coffee and pastries at Confetaria Colombo. I needed a battery for my camera, so we detoured to a mall where I did indeed find what I needed. The next day he recommended a Samba club to us and even arranged to meet us there but internet is not always fast in Rio, by the time we got the message we were too tired. We went there the next night though and had a wonderful time. Caê also contacted us on the day we flew home to make sure that we got to the airport safely and in plenty of time to catch our flight. If this is how he treats guests that cancel on him last minute, then I am sure he treats his guests that stay, as good as or even better than family!! I would defiantly recommend Caê and his home for your next visit to downtown Rio.
Caê and his father are great hosts. I felt welcome and very comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay at Caê's home. The room size is adequate for one or two people. There is also a large cupboard, so if you are traveling with a lot of personal belongings, you will be able to store them in it.
Caê's home is close to 2 metro stations, and many buses are accessible. I personally like the neighbourhood as it is close to Santa Teresa, Lapa, Centro, and with the nearby means of transportation, you get into Copacabana in 15-20 minutes.
O Caê é um cara fantástico, nos deixando muito a vontade, sem contar a roda de samba e nossa ida a Lapa, sem duvida alguma recomendo e com certeza na próxima ida ao Rio vamos novamente querer ficar hospedado em sua casa.
Cae and his father were very friendly hosts, and helped me all sorts of things. I really had a great time in this house for 2 weeks, I would definitely come back to this place if I ever visit Rio again! Just a few thing to note, it is just a personal matter,,, there were so many mosquitoes in the house, and wi-fi was not fast as I expected (maybe it is slow everywhere in Rio though...). Other than that, I just appreciated all, and I certainly come back here again! Thank you Cae for taking care of me!!! I really enjoyed staying!!!
Cae was an excellent host. When arriving to his neighborhood, it is really helpful to have his instructions. Our cab driver wasn't really helpful nor did she want to drive up the narrow road. The house is very nice and clean and we felt very save in the neighborhood. The room was clean with a small bathroom next door and a bigger one upstairs. The kitchen was also very clean and had everything to prepare a nice meal. Cae was a really good guide. He showed us the neighborhood, took us to a restaurant with live forro and was always a great source of information about Rio. We would stay there again.
A beautiful neighborhood, a quiet place to stay at, and with a view on the Cristo Redemptor, and a very friendly and knowledgeable host who showed us the neighborhood on the evening of arrival : just the perfect combination. I just wish I could have stayed longer in Rio, I hope I'll be able to come here again!
ESTUVIMOS LA SEMANA PASADA 8 DIAS MUY LINDOS, CAE NOS RECIBIO CON COMIDA POR QUE LLEGAMOS UN POCO TARDE, NOS SENTIMOS MUY COMODOS , NOS EXPLICO COMO MANEJARNOS ALLA, NOS ACOMPAÑO A LA PLAYA Y A LAPA QUE ES UN LUGAR MUY LINDO, EL BARRIO ES TRANQUILO, Y ES UN PUNTO DE FACIL ACCESO PARA TODO LO QUE HAY QUE CONOCER EN RIO.
