Portrait Haus is a quirky little get-away located in the Bay Area's secret wine region Anderson Valley, and just minutes from the Mendocino coast, Navarro river and Hendy Woods state park. Our remote writers, artists, and nature enthusiasts retreat is a mere 2.5 hours from San Francisco and close to the few excellent restaurants, river and beaches famed in the area. We are also minutes from world class wine tasting and big Mendocino County events. Located on a ridge top, on a 20 acre Certified Bee Friendly Farm in the heart of Anderson Valley, a swath along the Navarro River in Mendocino County, Portrait Haus is waiting for you. Our property is also home to a homesteading family who love farming, herbs, bees and living a sustainable lifestyle close to nature. We maintain 20 acres of woods, cultivated land and gardens dedicated to our friendly pollinators. The owner is also a Yoga Instructor, Process Coach and Holistic Health Coach, and is available for private instruction and consultation.

I am in love with Melissa's cabin and property. Her beautiful cabin is located in a large tract of redwood trees up on a ridge, with great hiking nearby. The cabin itself is very hard to leave - Melissa has put a lot of effort and detail into making this a warm and inviting home. The art on the walls was fantastic, the board games and magazines were much appreciated, and the homemade honey and fresh chard and herbs from her garden just put me over the edge. We cooked large meals in the kitchen effortlessly and sat around by the fire in the evenings. Taking a hot shower while looking out onto the redwood trees was another highlight. Everything was so cozy and thoughtful, Melissa has really thought of everything to ensure a fun and magical weekend getaway. I'm glad I found this little escape in the woods, I will definitely be going back.
Eco Haus is a very special little cabin. It was rainy the days that we were there, but we were very cozy inside with the wood stove. The location is great and it's super quiet at night. We would love to stay there again!
Melissa's Eco House was a fantastic getaway for the weekend. Located close to everything the wine country has to offer but secluded under a canopy of redwoods, I can not imagine a more ideal spot. The hosts were fantastic and greeted with smiles and a welcoming tour even though we showed up pretty late into the evening. Highly recommend!
You know how sometimes when you travel somewhere and you try to capture it's beauty in a photo and that photo will just simply never do it justice?? Well, this is one of those places! Chris and Melissa were welcoming and accessible, but are happy to leave you be to enjoy their beautiful Eco Haus on your own.
Wine tasting, beautiful scenery and the most friendly people around are easy to come by here! We will be back!
Melissa is a great host, and the cabin is adorable -- rustic but cozy and chic. We had a great time relaxing by the wood stove and cooking with the vintage oven. Very quiet and secluded feeling, and great wineries are just a few minutes away.
Melissa and Chris are wonderful hosts and very available to answer questions, provide recommendations or anything else you need. Highlights for us were enjoying fires by the wood stove, making breakfast looking out into the redwoods, the scenic drive to the coast, and the fabulous new years eve party our hosts were generous enough to include us in.
Beautiful land, cabin, and experience. Thank you so much! I wish we could have stayed for weeks and not just two nights! Gorgeous place...
We had an incredible stay at the Eco Haus for our second anniversary. It's a charming and quiet retreat from the city, with so much love and personality put into every last detail. The shower! Oh, I love the shower. And the stove is incredibly charming.
Waking up on a cold morning, the window cracked just a bit, and the sound of the wind blowing through the redwoods made for an idyllic retreat.
There are some fantastic wineries just a short distance away, and both Melissa and Chris have great suggestions. (We're now official Bink wine club members :D ! ) There are also some amazing hikes in the vicinity, and it's a short drive to Hendy woods state park.
Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend. We look forward to staying with you again soon.
This cabin was the best. We had such a great time and are planning on coming back soon. It was quite, adorable, and just perfect. Melissa was a wonderful host. The land there is stunning with hiking right from the cabin.
When I returned from my trip to this lovely cabin, I told my friend when I die, this is where I want to spend eternity. If you love nature, solitude, wine (it is smack in the middle of gorgeous wine country) and beautiful big Redwoods, than this is the place for you. Melissa was an incredibly gracious and sweet host. She made me feel right at home. It is rustic chic! Trees everywhere! Fresh air! I was so spoiled. So hard to leave. The cabin itself was unbelievably charming and well built. I felt very safe there. I built fires with lavender and kindle morning and night. I slept like a tree hugging baby every evening. The kitchen is spacious and it's looking out into the forest. And believe it or not, the shower was one of the best parts of the stay. Incredible warm and powerful pressure. And guess what you are looking at when you are showering? More trees!! Obviously I love nature, so I'm partial but this place truly was heaven for me. It was just what I needed. Another big plus is it's 25 miles from the Mendocino Coast. And the drive there is nothing short of spectacular. I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs a few quiet days to themselves or for a couple who just want to be together in the sweet, sweet Redwoods. Please go and enjoy. Thanks Melissa and to your lovely family.
