About this listing
Double glass doors open onto large porch over-looking the Leadenwah Creek from this bedroom.
My home is a cozy 2 story cottage on the Leadenwah Creek, 19 miles southwest of downtown Charleston, SC. My bedroom & bath are downstairs. There are 3 bedrooms & a shared bath area upstairs. One of those bedrooms with a full-sized bed is featured for rent on this site. We have an outdoor shower with hot & cold water. The television is in the living room with 8 channels, including the major networks, & Apple TV featuring Netflix. Wireless internet is included.
Please note that I have 2 listings, the other being Ruby Ranch - Creek Bedroom, each of which offer 1 bedroom with a full-sized bed. I have a 3rd listing, The Ruby Ranch, if you desire to rent my entire home. If you have a 3rd person or a child or two, I also offer a comfortable couch, window seat, bed swing & double chaise for fetching a good night's rest. There will be a $15/night charge for extra sleepers in these spots.
My kitchen and living area is to be lived in as if it's your own. Meals taken on the porch overlooking the Leadenwah Creek are peaceful and relaxing. My washer and dryer are available for you, also.
Enjoy the quiet peace that Wadmalaw and my 10 wooded acres afford you. Take a free tour through the woods & neighboring cemetery accompanied by my 4-legged guides, Moose & Stella. (A belly-rub tip is greatly appreciated.) Swim, kayak, fish, enjoy the sunset from my private dock. If it's cool, have a bonfire. Fresh eggs, compliments of my French hens, Sammy & Maggie, are available & encouraged. Country amenities abound at my home.
My birder visitors have exclaimed about the rookery, laden with no less than a dozen white egrets, existing in a tall, droopy tree jutting out from a hunk of mud in our marsh. This lush marsh, tidal creek and mud out my front door draw a variety of fowl, including Snowy & Great Egrets, Clapper Rails, Tri-Color Herons, and Red-Tailed Hawks, to name a few.
Your drive to nearby historic plantations is a tree-lined, country delight without city traffic. The same is true for day trips to the resort islands of Kiawah and Seabrook. John's Island is right next door with many relaxing activities, including horseback riding & farmers' markets. Our own Wadmalaw has America's only tea plantation and a local winery boasting the popular Sweet Tea vodka.
Folly Beach is a 23 mile drive. Kiawah's Beachwalker Park is 22 miles. This is owned & operated by Charleston County Parks and is a lovely drive on an oak-canopied country road.
Entire home, grounds and dock are available for our guests to enjoy; canines included! There is a blow dryer and flat iron, also.
Interaction with Guests
My interaction with guests depends on my work & social schedule. Often I am hardly around, but sometimes we share meals on the porch.
Other Things to Note
We have 1 large friendly dog & 1 smaller, friendly puppy that live outside.
Please no smoking in house or on porches.

This was a return trip to Ruby Ranch for us & we loved every minute! Fran is a super cool person. In addition to having a delightful location, beautiful and comfortable rooms (awesome bed!), and the best pets, she is warm and welcoming and totally makes us feel at home. I hope to spend next year's entire spring break on Wadmalaw Island with Fran and all her feathered and furry family! We brought home eggs from the hens and all kinds of happy memories of playing with Moose and Stella (the adorable and friendly dogs). Close enough to the sights and eateries of downtown Charleston and far enough away to let the life of birds, trees, and water sink in and bring rest, this is the perfect getaway! Go whenever and however often you can! You won't be disappointed.
This is the second time we are staying at this marvelous house with the kind host Fran. We've been in many airbnb locations and this is definitely a very special one. The house is just great, Fran is so nice and accommodating and the dogs, chicken and deck are beautiful. We highly recommend staying here and we will definitely come to visit Fran again soon.
Our stay with Fran was excellent. She went out of her way to make us feel at home. We especially loved napping on the porch swing upon arrival looking out onto the water. Thanks for a great trip Fran!
I could not have asked for a better first experience with airbnb. This is a very special property created by a warm and gracious host. I can imagine returning again and again. If you like quiet, unspoiled natural settings, this is the perfect place. My only regret is that I could not stay longer.
We are very frequent airbnb users and hands-down this is by far the best house we ever stayed in. This is a magical farm house very homey and surrounded with breath taking nature. We only met Fran for a few seconds when we checked in late at night, but she a great host and let feel right at home. We had the most amazing experience in this house and we are certain we will stay here again soon.
Southern hospitality at is finest!!!! Wadmalaw style!!!! Beautiful home, beautiful setting and as relaxing as it gets! We would stay here again in a heartbeat..oh and beautiful dogs to chill with!!!!
Fran's place is great. We stayed here the night before a triathlon in Kiawah and it was the perfect spot to relax before a before race. We had a magical sunset and enjoyed the calming sounds of the country to put us to sleep.

About the Host, Fran
I was born and raised in Estill, SC and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Nursing. I work at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC in Cardiac Surgery. Getting home to my comfy cottage in the woods, on the creek is the best! I am a single, empty-nester with bedrooms to spare.
