About this listing

This large daylight basement 1 BDRM MIL apartment is a street level walk up with its own private entrance. I live upstairs and work from home as a freelance photographer/videographer and designer. When I travel, I host quiet guests upstairs, too.

The space

Beautyrest Black firm queen bed.
Secure, private and well-lit entry
Wi-Fi
Organic tea and coffee provided
Kitchen is well-equipped for longer stays (full sized refrigerator, new dishwasher and farmhouse sink, vintage cooktop (no oven, however) convection toaster oven, and stocked with essential utensils and cookware
Full bath, LUXURIOUS rain shower head with great water pressure, plush and abundant towels and hairdryer provided
Unit is heated through central forced air gas, with additional wall heaters for those who tend to run colder than average. (The unit stays cool in the summer on its own.)
Fresh herbs are available for clipping from the herb garden out front
Vintage Turntable/Tuner/Aux player with vintage records
Small but growing library of classic literature
Games and cards

If you don't know what you'd do without a TV, oven or a microwave, I'm sorry, but this isn't the place for you. But for those who appreciate quiet quality with a bit of a Ace Hotel meets thrift store chic aesthetic, you will feel right at home.

If you like to wake to the sound of chirping birds and enjoy charming old school comforts with access to great local delis, bars restaurants and shops, you'll enjoy staying here!

Interaction with guests

I like to give my guests lots of space to have their own autonomous experience, so interactions with my guests are usually kept to check in and check out. However, I'm happy to join for a local cocktail or engage more with guests if I'm around and they are up for it. I find most just want to be left alone to experience Seattle on their own, and since I work a lot, that works pretty well for everyone.

Other things to note

This apartment is in the lower level of a house. It is completely separate from the house above, with separate entrances.

We were impressed how efficiently decorated, yet completely functional and comfortable Shannon's place was. The bed is super comfy, and the space is quite cozy. It's very well laid out for being a smaller space. There is plenty of closet space, towels and the kitchen looked well stocked, although we only make coffee and tea. Shannon stocked some delicious coffee grounds, and it ended up being some of the best coffee we had in Seattle. We drank plenty of coffee everywhere too. The little candy dish was also a treat. The location was convenient to some shops, breakfast spot and a couple eateries, as well as a 15-20 min walk to downtown Ballard. It's a quiet, beautiful residential location. Just a note, this unit is on the ground floor, sort of basement like. There were people upstairs, so we heard footsteps, but nothing unusual or at an unreasonable time. We didn't meet Shannon, but she's a great communicator and well prepared host. We would stay there again and definitely recommend it. Thanks!

We arrived a bit early, but Shannon was ready, and graciously welcomed us! Shannon pays attention to details, and soft jazz was playing on the vintage receiver, with perfect reception. It was NPR, one of our favorites! The apartment was exactly like the photos, but the pictures could never convey how soft and comfortable the bed was; how delicious the coffee with organic half and half was! The sweet treats we couldn't resist, caramel - ginger candy - truffles! Parking was never a problem, and we were in and out every day, by car. Keyless entry was super convenient, but we had a deadbolt additional option, if we chose. We enjoyed our walks (10-15 min) to and from the bus, direct line to downtown Seattle. We also enjoyed downtown Ballard (1 mile away) which had so many cool restaurants, and shops. If you need a quiet, spacious, place to stay, I would highly recommend Shannon's Cool Hip Vintage Apartment.

I had an absolute blast at Shannon's place! Everything I could ever need(and more I didn't even know I wanted but was excited it was available!) to feel at home was there. Shannon was always quick and pleasant to respond to all my questions. It was nice to be in such close proximity to many yummy restaurants and other activities such as bars and parks as well. I can't thank her enough for allowing me the opportunity to stay for 3 months while on assignment for a hospital. Her place is totally worth a visit! I would totally stay here again :)

I stayed here for about a month and it was a perfect place with enough closet space and amenities to live comfortably. The place is so cozy and felt like home.

Shannon's place was beautifully (and practically) furnished. If you're a fan of that vintage look, you'll feel well at home here. Great varied vinyl collection too! She stayed out of our hair, but was available if we needed her. Although this pad is located in a residential neighborhood, there are great restaurants within walking distance and an easy-to-use bus system. Shannon has a thoroughly informative house manual that will give you some direction. This place is definitely worth booking; there's a reason she's a Superhost!

We loved staying in Shannon's cozy home annex. It was super easy to access the space and everything was perfectly ready for us when we arrived: warm and cozy with jazz on the stereo and candles flickering in our bedroom. We couldn't be happier after our 24 hr flight from Europe! The kitchen had everything we needed and more for our short stay: we especially loved the choice of loose leaf teas and the record player for putting on our newly purchased records. The bed was super comfy, the kitchen was well-equipped, the sitting room was relaxing after a long day out in Seattle! Restaurants nearby were great for strolling to for breakfast or dinner. We couldn't have been happier.
