Casita Limón with Pat & John was delightful! We stayed at other Airbnbs in other towns on this trip, but this one had (by far) the best-equipped kitchen. The shower was great and there was hot water in the kitchen, too ) not always the case in Costa Rica). Comfortable bed, air conditioning and washer/dryer (when needed) all made our stay special. We enjoyed breakfast every morning on our covered patio, listening to the birds sing. Three of the six nights, we took our dinner up on top of the "mirador" or lookout overlooking the house, pool and rancho and watched beautiful sunsets, listened to the sweet sounds of children and families playing soccer in the field below and watched the lights around Atenas slowly start to twinkle on the mountains. Breathtakingly beautiful and romantic!! We walked into the center of town once (25 minutes) but mostly took a taxi ($2) and found out later that taking a bus into town was also an option. There are super massage therapists close by, too. We did the Toledo Coffee Plantation tour and it was fabulous! A must do!! Don't miss the going to the ZooAve, a rescue habitat/zoo for injured and endangered species. Delightful!! Pat was extremely helpful with information. She prepared a notebook chock full of details and suggestions. We also enjoyed the swimming pool! The Rancho was a fun extension of our living area and the surrounding gardens so relaxing. Atenas is a great little town with all the necessary amenities and it only took us about 45 minutes by public bus to get to the airport hotel where we spent the night before flying out the next morning. (Hampton Inn Suites Airport & Holiday Inn are side by side.) We highly recommend Casita Limón for a relaxing, restorative vacation!

We stayed at Casita Limon for a month, and couldn't have picked a better host couple for getting to know Atenas. Pat and John are so friendly and extremely knowledgable about the area, and tolerated our incessant questions (Where do we buy groceries? Which vet do you recommend? What's your favorite restaurant? etc.). The casita is within walking distance of town and we enjoyed running with our dogs on the soccer field right across the road. We loved our time here and would recommend it to anyone seeking a true Costa Rica experience!

I spent most of my 20s here in Costa Rica. I returned to the States to raise a family and build a career, always knowing I would return to Costa Rica someday. We built our casita in 2007 so we would have a place to stay when we came on our vacations to Costa Rica a couple of times a year.

In 2011, my husband John and I officially retired and moved to Atenas. The first year we lived in our humble casita, while we watched our new home being built. In May of 2012, we moved into "la casa grande" and now our casita is available as a short term vacation rental.
