We love our little neighborhood. Every morning we awake to the songs of the tropical birds around us.
We have a sports plaza right next door and depending on the day, or time of year, there may be soccer matches, children from the local school exercising, or practicing band for an upcoming parade. We've even had 2 & 4 wheel motorcycle rallys staged from our little plaza.
At any time of day, you may find folks using the plaza for walking, jogging, or cycling. In the afternoons, friends and families frequently gather to play or kick around a soccer ball.
It's a great neighborhood!
We're about 30 minutes from the Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaria, SJO. The taxi fare from the airport to the house will run between $40 & $45, or we can prearrange to pick you up for a flat fee. The drive will take you through the scenic Aguacate (avocado) mountains. It's another hour's drive to the Pacific coast beaches.
If you rent a vehicle, secure parking is available on the property.
There is regular bus service from Atenas to San Jose, other neighboring towns, and the Pacific beaches.
Taxi fare to Atenas Centro from the Casita runs about $2.
Other Things to Note

Casita Limon was just as described. The hosts could not have been more accommodating. The bed was comfortable. The towels were plentiful. The kitchen was quite workable, with two burners, electric skillet and plenty of dishes and containers.
We had our own washer and dryer and clothes line with pegs, which was super for a three week stay. A water filter in the kitchen, great shower and plenty of water pressure were all appreciated.
There were fresh lemons and limes falling daily for our use. The walk to town was hilly, but do-able and we got better as time went on. Taxi prices were reasonable and Pat and John gave us tips on who to call, where to shop and what to see. On their recommendation we visited El Toledo permaculture coffee farm and had an amazing tour- and fantastic coffee.
Also, the best kitchen knives ever in a rental!
For a close to town experience, this was a great introduction to Atenas. Thanks, you two!
Casita Limón was the perfect place to stay for my first two nights in Costa Rica. The apartment immediately felt like home, and Pat and John's whole private property is so peaceful. I'm a bit more on the private side, so I didn't spend much time with Pat and John, but when I did they were so friendly and quick to take care of me. I would recommend Casita Limón to anyone looking for a comfortable place to lay their head, quick access to just about everywhere in the country, and without the bustle of San Jose. Pura vida!
John and Pat were absolutely the best host and hostess! They welcomed us with open arms into their home. Not only did they introduce us to the Casita but to the town as well as the day after our arrival was the open market and they invited us to go with them.
The Casita is the best, separate from their own home, just enough to give complete privacy when needed. The Rancho (common area) was perfect for BBQing and enjoying a sensational thunder/lightening storm. We were without a car but this did not present a problem. The neighborhood felt very comfortable to us, walking to town was quite easy as long as you don't try it in the middle of the day! Cabs and buses were quite inexpensive and very accessible.
Casita Limon is the only place I would want to stay at when visiting the peaceful town of Atenas!
John and Pat were very responsive before we arrived in Costa Rica. As it was our first time, this put us at ease and we really appreciate it! They picked us up from our hotel near SJO and brought us to a nice restaurant by the Casita for lunch, providing us with information about Costa Rica and tips for our stay. The Casita is was nice and just as described. Walking to town was not bad as long as you are careful to watch for cars, and at night be sure to wear reflective clothing - since there are no sidewalks, it can be a little scary if you are not seen. Cabs and buses were quite inexpensive and very accessible. The only downfall is that we had to cut our stay short by one night. Most tours leave from San Jose, and it made more sense for us to stay at a hotel in the city where tour buses pick you up and drop you off. If you are planning on doing tours, I would take this into consideration. Overall, we had a very nice stay at Casita Limon and John and Pat were great hosts.
Wow! This was the perfect place to spend our first weeks in Costa Rica on our move from the USA! Starting with Pat and John meeting us at the airport, they were absolutely wonderful hosts. They have a wealth of information about Costa Rica and, specifically, Atenas. They saved me lots of money and headaches! Atenas is a great central location for visiting San Jose, the beach, or the mountains. It's a great town to get a taste of Costa Rica, with plenty of expats to help in the process. A car is a big help - you could walk to Casita Limon from town, but it's not a real pleasant walk, especially in mid-day sun. The location was perfect for us - in a typical Tico neighborhood. We met some great local residents and enjoyed beautiful walks down to the end of the dead-end street they're located on. The plaza of their barrio is right across the street (don't worry, it wasn't noisy) and was a great place to walk or play with our dog. Yes, they welcome dogs and ours had a great time with their two dogs. The pool was delicious after a day out and about. You also get full use of their "rancho" - covered outdoor area with grill, tables, etc. A great "mirador" (lookout) gives wonderful views of the surrounding area and sunrises and sunsets. The casita is private enough that you never feel you're at someone else's house. We had our own remote for the gate that belongs to the casita, so coming and going was a breeze. The casita was well equipped and comfortable. The bedroom has AC and several windows that open to let in the pleasant breeze. The kitchen/living/dining area had no openable window, no AC, and could get hot and closed-in feeling. They've ordered a screen door which would help, leaving the door open and the bugs out. A porch just outside was a great place to hang out, and of course you have the whole grounds to enjoy. I would absolutely recommend this place! You can't do better for the very reasonable price!
My stay at Pat and John's Casita was everything I had hoped for and more. It is a quiet little place in a nice area, it's about a 20 minute walk from the main town. At the casita you will have every accommodation, even things like a dryer which is unusual for Costa Rica. I was also surprised to find that I could pick oranges and lemons from the trees on their property, which made for a delicious drink using their juicer. Not much more to say, very nice place if you're looking for a relaxing time in one of the lesser-visited towns in Costa Rica.
From the time I arrived in Costa Rica Pat & John were wonderful hosts. They picked me up at the airport, gave me lots of information about the town & things to do, good places to eat. They are always helpful when you need them & a pleasure to chat with. The Casita is great, very comfortable & really enjoyed the pool especially since it has no chemicals. Their little dogs Goose & Randy are adorable & always happy to see you...Would recommend Casita Limon to anyone..
About the Host, Pat And John
I spent most of my 20s here in Costa Rica. I returned to the States to raise a family and build a career, always knowing I would return to Costa Rica someday. In 2011, my husband John and I officially retired and moved to Atenas. The first year we lived in our humble casita, while we watched our new home being built. In May of 2012, we moved into "la casa grande" and now our casita is available as a short term vacation rental.
