Comfy bed for better sleep

The room-darkening shades and extra bedding are loved by guests.
Relax, unwind, and unplug with a beautiful view of the Manzano Mountains in our cozy cabin. Mountainair was known as the “Pinto Bean Capital of the World” in its heyday and our land was used for dry-land bean farming. Remnants of homesteaders can still be found on the property. We now enjoy this beautiful location to raise Scottish Highland Cattle and can’t wait to share it with you! Our cabin will fit 2 adults plus a child comfortably with a queen bed and twin sofa bed.

The space
Please read the entire listing before booking and feel free to ask any questions, so your expectations align with your stay. :)

The cabin is 330 sq ft and located on 40 fenced acres. It is accessed by 1/2 mile of dirt road. It has an open floor concept; the bathroom has a door. The bedroom has a queen bed, wardrobe, dresser, chest of drawers, and glider with an ottoman. The kitchen includes a mini fridge, sink, electric oven, microwave, and a Keurig (stocked with a variety of coffee, hot chocolate, teas and creamer). There are basics for cooking, dishes, cups, and utensils. There’s a small loveseat with a pull-out twin memory foam mattress. A bar height counter faces a panoramic window with two bar height chairs. The full bathroom includes a bathtub and shower.

The cabin is perfect for escaping everyday demands of technology and the fast paced city life.* Imagine relaxing outside on the porch then falling asleep to a sky full of stars (if it’s not too cloudy) and waking up to a beautiful view of the Manzano Mountains. You’ll also have hairy cow neighbors when they come in for water or feed. Our barn is 60 yards to the West, separated by a barbed wire fence. *The cabin doesn’t have WiFi or TV.

Mountainair — is 10 miles from the center of New Mexico; Santa Fe is less than 2 hours North, Ruidoso is 2 hours South and Albuquerque is just over an hour away. At an altitude of 6495 feet we are known to have cool summer nights and warm summer days. Winter nights get below freezing with days ranging from 30-50°. Snows generally range from 2”-6”. In town you can find a gas station, ‘B Street Market’ grocery store, laundromat, ‘Mountainair Meds and More’ pharmacy with soda fountain, art galleries, Napa auto parts, a tire shop, 2 restaurants: ‘Alpine Alley’ (breakfast or lunch) and ‘Zia Cafe’ inside the Shaffer hotel, a Family Dollar, Dollar General and ‘Last Chance Food Shack’ with lattes, frappes, smoothies and sandwiches. The Estancia gas station is the closest place to find alcohol followed by Moriarty, Edgewood, Albuquerque, Los Lunas or Belen.

Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument — was certified as an International Dark Sky Park with occasional nighttime events. There are three ruins you can visit Quarai (15 min NW), Abó (17 min W), and Gran Quivira (30 min S).
Summer hours (May 1-October 31) 9:00-5:00
Winter hours (November 1-April 30) 9:00-4:00
Closed New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Gran Quivira visitor center is closed Nov 1-Feb 28.

Cibola National Forest — offers hiking, wildlife, and beautiful Fall foliage.

Guest access
Full access to the cabin with a fenced in porch for you to enjoy.

Feel free to explore around the cabin and walk on the county roads; don’t cross any fences or locked gates. We have two wonderful neighbors, one 300 yards from the cabin and another 450 yards.

Other things to note
BNSF railway is across the highway and passes by frequently; a road crossing a mile to the southeast requires them to sound their horn.

If there is significant rainfall or snow melt the dirt road can get soupy and four wheel drive is recommended. I will try to keep you abreast of changes in weather. We have a flexible cancellation policy in case you need to change your plans.

Reminder that there is no Wifi, but there is cell service.

“Town of Mountainair” FB page is a great resource for events.
