In the attractive district of Combe Down, two miles from Bath city centre, I offer a bright room in an old stone cottage. On street parking, quiet locality. The benefits of open country combine with having easy access to historic Bath by bus.
The room is compact with a comfortable three-quarter size double bed. It's very light with simple furnishings, and an excellent reading light. I provide towels and good linen. A choice of pillows. My home is a quiet reflective space, and I hope that you will enjoy the tranquilllity.
You may have the exclusive use of a small bathroom directly next to the bedroom in which there's a power-shower, toilet and basin. A bathroom (with bath and shower) and another toilet are available downstairs. This second bathroom would be shared with me only.
A TV with Youview box [catch-up and extras] in the livingroom.
I can light the wood burner for special effect in the winter. There is a TV in that room as well.
Check-in is flexible, to fit with your travel plans. I can fetch from Bath Spa Station for a small fee, (£3.50 for one person, £5 for two people) or there is the no.1 bus from Bay 10 close to railway station. It takes 10 minutes only. The single bus fare is £2.70. Return or All Day ticket is £4.20 on that one route only.
There is on-street parking near the house, and the area is safe. I provide a detailed guide to back up your satnav system! I give a better way to come.
ADVICE AND SERVICE:.
I explain facilities and advise on transport and activities. I serve a drink on arrival. If you wish I can serve your breakfast, or if you prefer to make it self-serve in your own time that is fine. Make tea, coffee or bed-time drink anytime. I can supply 'funny' teas, 'alternative milks'. I can cope with vegans. Please advise of any food intolerance in advance.
I have plenty of information, and some time-tables.
This is an old district of historic importance, with a stone mining legacy from the 19th century.
A short walk away there is a wonderful view over Monkton Combe and the Limpley Stoke valley. It is near the Rainbow woods and The Skyline Walk. It is possible to walk in to Bath over fields, taking about half an hour with a spectacular view. The steep hill influences the walk back! Up here there are level walks.
There are options to find food within a reasonably close walking distance. Eating in town is better. There are many restaurants close to the bus station. I'm also willing to offer a 2-course meal with a little notice for a reasonable rate. (about £9 per meal) I can make the microwave available to you.
There is a bus stop about 6 minutes walk away. The no 1 bus to Combe Down runs half hourly weekdays till about 7.30 pm and hourly after that. It takes 10 minutes only. On Sunday there are fewer services at the end of the day, ie. last bus around 7pm. But the 13 can still get you to the locality till late. The 20 bus links with the 18 from the University in to city centre. I can supply time-table information. All buses go the the bus station near Bath Spa station. Bristol is only 15 minutes away by train.
A taxi on a Saturday night, for example, costs around £8-10.
An Airbus Service A4 runs from Bristol Airport to Bath bus station (£11), a taxi transfer costs £45+.
TRIPS OUT OF TOWN:
Two companies run a bus to Stonehenge, Lacock, and Avebury Stone Circle. I can drop off to departure place for a small fee in order to link up with a coach trip. Wells is worth a visit, as is Glastonbury.
DETAILS ABOUT ME:
I'm a wordsmith, poet and storyteller; and I volunteer on a variety of environmental projects like community gardens and orchards. I am a Green. I try to use eco-friendly products. I request awareness of sparing use of electricity and water. Short shower only. Try to recycle. It's only common sense.
We had a truly lovely stay with Verona near Bath. Very comfortable and clean. Easy access into Bath, either walking, taxi or by bus. Verona is extremely helpful on all matters regarding a stay in Bath and surrounding area. Even cooked me a special cake to welcome us! Would recommend.
I had a lovely time at Verona's, I only wish I could have stayed longer. Verona was very nice and helpful with bus schedules and activity pamphlets, and generally good to talk to. The neighborhood is lovely, just far enough away from the town that it feels like a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the shops and attractions, but still convenient to get there and back. The house and room are nice and cozy, a good place to relax. I would recommend staying here if you have the chance.
I had a great 2 night stay with Verona. A lovely cottage with excellent facilities and a warm welcome. Verona went out of her way to help me make the best use of a short stay. I can recommend the location for peaceful location, easy parking and an unmissable walk into the city with amazing views. The bus service was also very simple to use. Verona cooked a tasty and welcome evening meal (extra charge) in addition to providing good continental breakfasts. Bath has many highlights and I particularly enjoyed a 2 hour thermal spa experience! Thanks Verona.
It was a pleasure to host you, Maggie, and we enjoyed some interesting conversations. I'm particularly glad you enjoyed the walk in via the fields with the big views over Bath. I think you packed a lot in to your visit, and managed to relax in the Thermae Spa as well! Thanks for your positive comments. You are a great airbnb guest, and have my full recommendation.
I had an amazing time at Verona's lovely house, she is such a caring and warmhearted host! The location of her house is perfect for students or staff of the University of Bath (9mins by bus) and of course for visitors of this beautiful city. The room is nicely decorated, comfortable and very clean, the own bathroom is very convenient. Verona provided me with everything I needed, such as bus plans, recommendations for Bath, a delicious breakfast, interesting conversations and I could have the rest I needed.
Thank you very much Verona, I will highly recommend your beautiful house!!
Linda, those are very generous words. It was a delight to host such an appreciative guest. I am pleased that you felt you could rest and 're-charge your batteries' here, as I know you had a stressful time settling into everything in such a short time. My home provided a little respite. Thankyou for being so considerate and reliable. I can recommend you to any other host.
Verona is a very helpful and friendly host. The room is very comfortable and has a private bathroom. The place is located in a beautiful and quiet area. I was staying with Verona for 6 nights while working at the university of Bath as a visiting researcher. Although there is also a frequent bus going there, I really enjoyed the 20-25min walk to the university through the fields.
We had a fantastic stay with Verona. She was very helpful and gave us help finding our way around Bath. Breakfast each morning was lovely and the room was comfortable. We would definitely stay with Veronan again.
Stephanie, and Frank, I enjoyed meeting you. The time was too busy to get to know you, and I'm sorry about that. However, it all seemed to go well. Thankyou for leaving wedding flowers with me! I'm keeping them going. Good luck with further travels. You have a lot of interesting stuff ahead of you, and I'm sure many more airbnb hosts will enjoy your company.
The house is very warm and welcoming. Good facilities and a good room. It isn't the largest, but is certainly bigger when you see it compared to photos. Verona is extremely helpful, making suggestions of local restaurants and things to do. Breakfast was good - cereal and toast mainly with no complaints.
Verona is a wonderful host and her hospitality and beautiful home made our weekend in Bath. The room is immaculate and very comfortable with convenient private bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and our morning chats were really nice. My boyfriend and I particularly enjoyed the walk to town down the valley that Verona recommended - if the weather is good, it's a must do.All messages were responded to within the hour and we were picked up at the station. All in all, we had a great weekend, thanks to Verona's warmth, hospitality and kindness. Couldn't recommend her highly enough as a host. 10/10.
Stephanie and Michael are a charming couple, most considerate and aware of trying to give help, even when it is not necessary. I liked their joie d'vivre and independent spirit.Their enjoyment of the outdoors, and capacity to explore meant that they had a great week-end. I enjoyed hosting them immensely. Highly recommended as airbnb travellers of the future.
Great host, and great place! In my 1+month stay in England, this was by far the most peaceful stay. There's a field nearby from which the sky is beautiful by night, and we want to do some yoga (working out the travel kinks!) every night we stayed. Room/bed/house was good, and Verona was a lovely host. Our visit was enriched by our stay here. I would highly recommend this over any stay in town if you are in Bath.
Stoerm and Baaska, meeting you expanded MY horizons as well. I admire your work ethic, and was interested to see how you fitted that in with a travelling life-style. Glad my Wi-Fi came up to the mark. I'm especially pleased that you found peace around here. That field will never be the same again! You were a most interesting and easy-going couple: airbnb travellers of an unusual kind. This is what it's all about - sharing ideas, being inventive, making a different way possible.
I had a few days to do some jobs around Bath and catch up on a bit of work and Verona's place was ideal, a little island of calm to base myself in. Verona is a great host and really goes out of her way to ensure her visitors get the most out of their stay in Bath. I also lucked out in that the weather meant that I could have breakfast outside looking at the garden and chatting to Verona, a great start to the day.
