The Space

This is a fully self contained 2 bedroom apartment, centrally located in the lovely village of Port Douglas, North Queensland. There is off street parking and a pool within the complex. The apartment is tastefully furnished and available with just a few days notice. It is in a small quiet block of 8, usually inhabited by locals. This is not a holiday resort but the apartment is very comfortable and very close to everything in the village.
Just a 3 minute walk to the beautiful 4 Mile Beach and a 5 minute stroll to the centre of the village. Port Douglas has great restaurants and shopping and a laid back cafe scene. The beach is fabulous and a good 4 mile walk in the mornings!!

Guest Access

Fully self contained apartment with private laundry facilities. A shared pool within the complex. Private designated off street parking. Free WIFI available in the apartment.

Interaction with Guests

Personal 'Meet and Greet' for all guest arrivals/departures. I live 'off site' but am available 24/7 via, phone, text, email for any issues. I can be 'on site' if necessary, in as little as 10 minutes. I like to give guests their space and will only attend at the apartment during your stay if you need assistance with an issue.

The Neighborhood

The apartment is just a 3 minute walk to the beautiful 4 Mile Beach and a 5 minute stroll to the centre of the village.

Port Douglas has great restaurants and shopping and a laid back cafe scene. The beach is fabulous for lazing around for the day and a good 4 mile walk in the mornings!!

If it is adventure you are seeking, Port Douglas is one of the closest ports to the Great Barrier Reef and people from all over the world come here to experience one of the Wonders of the World. Diving, fishing, swimming, hiking or just lounging around, this is the place to be for that Great Barrier Reef experience. The Marina Precinct is just a 5 minute walk to the end of the street.

Drive yourself or take one of the day tours to the Daintree Rainforest, another spectacular 'Must see' in this area.

Cairns and it's world class attractions are also within reach, just over an hour to drive yourself or choose one of the many day tours to Skyrail and Kuranda. Port Douglas is the perfect base.

Getting around

Local Shuttle bus stops at the bus stop on the corner adjacent to the building. Sunpalm Transport airport shuttle will drop off/pick up at the apartment. Most tour companies will pick up either at the apartment or across the road at the Peppers Beach Club. The Marina, Macrossan Street and Fourmile Beach are all within walking distance, 5 minutes.
Off street undercover parking is available on-site.

Other Things to Note

This apartment is not airconditioned. There are good ceiling fans in the living area and both bedrooms and a portable pedestal fan is also provided. Aircon isn't necessary during the months of April to October as the climate is perfectly mild during these months. During the Summer months my guests find that the apartment is naturally cool and has good access to cooling breezes. The lovely quiet shared pool, available to my guests, is a perfect cooling option when returning home from a long day of sightseeing!!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Julies apartment. It was clean and had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable . The location was great close to main street and the swimming beach. Julie surprised us with bottle of bubly and few goodies . Well recommend apartment . Communication with juice was excellent. Thanks Julie .

  • We had a brilliant time at Castaways! The location of the apartment couldn't be better - just a few minutes walk to the beach and also a few minutes away from the shops, cafes and restaurants. Both bedrooms had plenty of room and the living room and kitchen areas were nicely decorated.

    We loved that Julie had left some goodies in the fridge for us - a bottle of bubbles, some chocolate and fruit. It was very kind and much appreciated after our long journey from Sydney.

    I would definitely recommend this property and will stay again in future!

  • We had a wonderful time at Castaways Four. Julie made us feel very welcome and offered a number of suggestions on how to make best use of our few days in Port Douglas. Her kindness in lending us a CD for a self-drive tour of the Daintree Rain Forest ensured a particularly enjoyable day out.

    The apartment had everything we needed, is completely private and perfectly situated a few minutes walk from the beach and the town centre.

    Castaways Four and Julie's superb hospitality are to be highly recommended.

  • Julie was an absolute pleasure - she is such a delight and knows Port Douglas well. She responded almost immediately to all my inquiries and left extremely detailed instructions about how to get to and from the unit as well as all emergency contact info and airport transfer recommendations. I had no doubts. She was also excellent in terms of responding through both text and email if I had any questions and was punctual when first meeting me to leave the key and show me around the unit.

    The place was a lot larger than the pictures make it out to be; with two bedrooms, there was more than enough space The main bedroom alone was perfect for my stay.

    Julie was also kind enough to offers fresh towels, a loaf of jalapeno/cheddar bread with pesto dip, along with a bowl of fresh fruit and cold water upon my arrival, in case I was peckish or thirsty, which I thought was so considerate. She also gives a thorough tour of the place, where things are, how things work (specifically the locks and security of the place which made me feel much safer), etc. I loved that there was a washer and dryer for me to do 1-2 loads in and continue my travels with clean laundry. The fact that there was no AC unit completely goes unnoticed, as there are 4 fans throughout the place (2 in the main area and 1 in each bedroom) which can stay on and keep the place at a comfortably cool temperature.

    My stay in Port Douglas was short, so I didn't get to make use of the on-premise pool, but would have loved to take a dip to cool off. Julie even has a stock of brochures noting all the attractions and tours that leave from town as well as delivery/takeout menus if you ever decide to have a night in.

    Most importantly, however, I was thrilled that Castaway Four was located so close to the town - literally, a 4-minute walk to shops, dining and groceries, while the bus stop is a few steps outside the door where the town shuttle picks up and drops off about every 30 mins. So convenient.

    I definitely recommend any solo or couples travelling to Port Douglas to stay at Castaway Four. It is definitely a great stay and great value! Thanks again.

  • Lovely place, amazing visit. 3 of us came to PD to scuba. Julie's place was walking distance from everything we wante to do. We hired a car but could have gotten on without one. If you want to visit Daintree without a tour group, you'll need one though. We didn't make it to the rainforest bc we decided to do an extra day at the reef.

    The apartment was very cute, clean, and fully equipped. Julie is an ideal host, very friendly and knowledgable. There's no aircon, but we were there in the hottest time of Feb and had no issues - plenty of fans and windows. We'll stay here again when we return to PD.

  • Enjoyed our stay in Port Douglas, and Julie's accommodation is ideally placed, just a short walk to beach, shops and restaurants
    Property just as described. Not only did Julie meet us when we got to the apartment, but she was also incredibly helpful both before we arrived when we had to change our arrival time, and when one of party suffered a back injury.
    Lots to do, but highlight for us was the Aquarius luxury Reef trip.
    Just a small boat in comparison to most of the ones on offer, but if you don't have children, do go for this one, a bit more expensive but really worth it. The snorkelling was exhilarating , great food on board and first class treatment. If only we hadn't left to last day we would have repeated the experience..

  • It was clean and tidy. Julie had thoughtfully bought some milk, bread, pesto, wine and chocolates in. She left her contact details for us. There's free wifi which is useful. It's a great base to visit lots of different places. We had a fantastic holiday. I recommend this apartment.

  • Not knowing much about Port Douglas, we were really pleased to discover how close Julie's place is both to the beach and downtown. We walked every day even though we had a car.
    The ceiling fans were welcome relief on hot nights, although we did long for some air conditioning when returning from time in the sun. The unit's tile floors made it easy to keep clean and sand free.
    Julie met us at the unit on our arrival with a warm welcome, treats and lots of advice on how to make the most of our stay. She is perfectly suited to being a host!

  • Julie was amazing! She greeted us uponed our late arrival and was great about taking time to explain her wonderful condo to us in detail. It was truly an amazing place. She left us with some wonderful food and beverage items. The location was perfect. We were able to easily walk into town and to the beach. It was very well stocked and we have no complaints other than it was rather hot when we were that but obviously that was not in Julie's hands. I would highly recommend her place to anyone who is lucky enough to be going to Port Douglas. Thank you to Julie for going out of her way to make our stay so wonderful. Meeting Julie in person was a treat in itself.

I like walking my dog on the Beach, swimming, eating and generally lounging around. I have spent many years living and working on the Great Barrier Reef and living in remote areas. I have travelled throughout Asia, Europe and the Middle East and hope to make your stay both memorable and comfortable as well as value for money.
