About this listing
Delightful 1 bedroom / 1 bath home, with large outdoor balcony on quiet path away from traffic, located in Penestenan, Ubud.
Private home in desirable Penestenan for rent, including bedroom, kitchen/living area and bathroom.
In true Balinese style, half of the living space is outside on the covered second-story balcony including kitchen, dining table/desk and lounge.
The home includes a large, airy bedroom with vaulted ceiling, queen-sized bed with mosquito net, reading light (this isn’t standard in Balinese hotels!), speakers to plug in your Ipod and WIFI. The bathroom is large with a separate recessed shower so your feet won’t get wet (many homes have “wet” showers and the water is on the floor). Fully equipped kitchen with 2-burner gas range, blender, rice cooker, toaster oven, electric kettle, refrigerator, pots/pans, dishes and cutlery.
I will be out of town, so not available in person (only by email). Jiwa, my Balinese landlord, will be available and will clean the house twice a week, pick up and drop off your laundry and drive you by moped into Central Ubud for only $1USD! Jiwa also rents out motorbikes for 50,000/day ($5) or 550,000/month ($55).
This is a private home and you will have access to the entire house, including bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. There are no shared features, beyond the gate and garden (there is another tenant downstairs in this 2-unit home).
ABOUT THE AREA:
Located in Penestanan Village, the most desirable expat neighborhood in Ubud due to rice paddy fields, multiple footpaths (no car traffic), restaurants, spas and yoga studio. Central Ubud is 2 kilometers away, and just a 5-minute drive or 25-minute walk. Major attractions in Penestanan include Intuitive Flow Yoga, Alchemy (raw food restaurant) and Sari Organik. There is a taxi stand just a 2-minute walk away.
My home is located on a quiet footpath (only accessible by moped, bicycle or foot) and a 2-minute walk to the main road in Penestanan Kelod. Most nights you can hear Gamelan music from the village, and you will always fall asleep to frogs croaking and insects humming.
Ubud is a popular tourist destination, and as such there is intermittent construction in the area. Construction occurs during the day time, when you are likely to be out and about. Please be assured you will have sweet dreams during the quiet evenings.
Other Things to Note
PLEASE NOTE: I only approve AirBnB guests that have information about themselves in their profile, and prefer guests with reviews. This is my personal home and am entrusting the Air BnB community to treat my home like it’s yours. I live in a quiet neighborhood, so please keep it quiet after 10pm out of respect for your neighbors.

What a magic and delightful home Anne. It was everything we hoped for and more. Such a pretty outlook over gardens and Balinese style rooftops. It was amazingly quiet there - even during the day and yet such an easy walk to the great cafes of Penestanan. Also a great walk in to Ubud. Jiwa was wonderful and because our arrival was delayed due to ash cloud, we arrived later in the evening ( and two days later) than planned. However he was there - at midnight - to greet us and ensure that we were comfortable.
It was also really good to have been able to stay in touch with you about our arrival delay. You responded immediately and were so reliable.
We loved staying in your home. Thank you so much. We wouldn't hesitate to book with you again if we return sometime.
Anne has a great place in Ubud. Lots of light, a comfortable bed and close enough to be able to walk to restaurants, but not too close to be in the middle of all the tourists. There is a pool next door which you can use for $5. If we come back, will definitely stay here again! Thanks
Anne's house was lovely, within a quiet area of Ubud but still close to the center. communication was excellent and everything was an expected. we really enjoyed our stay there.
We were so exited to stay at Anne's place. So welcome and wonderful ) we found there all that we needed, even more :) Peace and calm. Thank u very much, Anne. Hope one day we will come to your place again )
Anna's home is exactly as it looks in the pictures and her landlord is as sweet as she said he would be. He was there waiting for me when i arrived with a big smile and was caring, sweet and funny for my entire stay. Having stayed in Penestenan before i was expecting to have a similar experience, where the paths leading to the homes are only for foot traffic and the sounds of nature would be predominately what i would hear. Unfortunately this was not the case and the path leading to Anne's home was used by motor bikes and pedestrians and the traffic from a near by busy road could be heard from the home. Anne's home is also situated in a built up area where the sounds from the surrounding homes can be easily heard. On my first night i arrived to the sounds of televisions, neighbours loud conversations and construction taking place in numerous locations! Being someone who is very sensitive to noise, this was not the ideal location for me or the peaceful retreat i was hoping to have! Although i enjoyed my early mornings and late evenings at Anne's home when the surroundings were a lot quieter, the same cannot be said for the rest of the day. Most mornings construction began at 8 am and would continue until 7pm. This made it impossible to enjoy any down time at Anne's home through out the day. As a result i ended up leaving Anne's home and finding alternate accommodation, which was stressful and dampened my holiday. Although Anne was happy to refund a portion of my payment for the inconvenience of the construction, it did not cover the cost of having to pay for double accommodation. Unfortunately when you travel to Bali in the wet season there is a lot of construction going on in preparation for the high season and at this time it seemed that most of Penestenan was under construction. So there really was no escaping the noise!!! If you do not mind noise and want to be close to some really nice eating places, a nice yoga studio (but dont mind listening to power tools for the back up music) Anne's home is sweet, clean and compact.
I'm sorry that Rebecca was so disturbed during her stay and don't rent out my home when there is construction nearby. Since I'm currently in the USA, when Rebecca notified me about the construction I offered her a discount and intended to take my AirBnB listing down since I didn't want other guests to be disrupted. However, my landlord told me there actually wasn't any construction but Rebecca is very sensitive as she notes in her review.
As you can see from the reviews before and after her stay, there were no other noise complaints.
We had an amazing time in this perfect spot! Anne left a detailed description of all the essentials we would need and so many other helpful pieces of advice for in and around Ubud to make our trip fabulous. (Ex. We ate at one of her recommended restaurants twice it was so good, and her recommended driver became our personal tour guide!)
The apartment was clean, beautiful and a perfect way to experience the peaceful nature of Bali, while being close to everything too! We loved staying and would definitely come back again. Thank you so much Anne for sharing your lovely home with us. :)
My 4 night stay at Anne's home in Ubud was absolutely perfect.
The home is lovely, simple and clean. The location is quiet and peaceful w/ delicious, vegetarian restaurants close by.
All communication with Anne was easy and the many useful tips shared were greatly appreciated. Jiwa, a gentle, kind, soul, greeted me upon arrival & was there to help out whenever needed.
All in all, a wonderful place to stay in Ubud.
