Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, Lampun (7 Kms from our place)
Sited in mid-town, Wat Phra That Hariphunchai was built during the reign of King Arthitayarat, a descendant of Queen Chamthewi some 800 years ago. A principal landmark is the 46-metre tall golden Chedi whose present appearance was the result of the restoration work in 1443 by a king of Chiang Mai. It has long been regarded as a major place of worship. Other architectural works include the ancient-style brick arch adorned with fine designs and the pair of sculptured lions at the door. There are also a square-shaped Chedi and a Khmer-style Buddha statue.
Wiang Kum Kam (30 mins by car from our place)
Wiang Kum Kam is an ancient city that was built in the reign of King Mengrai in 1286. The city was surrounded by ditches in every corner and they were used as reservoirs. From the discoveries, there are 20 ancient remains in and around Wiang Kum Kam include buildings and temples of Wat Chedi Liam, Wat Chang Kham, Wat Noi, Wat Pu Pia, Wat Ku Khao, Wat E Kang, Wat Hua Nong, and Wat Pu Song. The remains are dating from 21st –22nd Buddhist centuries.
And it's about 45 minutes by car to Night Safari & Ratchaphruek Garden!
Siri provided one of the most unique and comforting travel experiences I've had yet! Her spot in umong is pleasantly located between Chiang Mai and Lumphun -- and is an easy day trip to explore either. She even gave us bikes to explore around umong and we took them all the way to Lumphun to temple hop! It's far from the constant stream of tourists that stay in Chiang Mai. Regardless of all the fun we had exploring the cities, Siri's hospitality is the real experience. She even picked us up from the Chiang Mai station! She cooks the most amazing meals for cheap using fresh ingredients from her garden and eggs from her chicken coop. She even gave us the opportunity to taste local Thai wine! The spot itself was a relaxing and cozy bungalow that we looked forward to coming back to after exploring. She also put us in touch with a driver who took us to the mountain temple in Chiang Mai and more temples around the city for a reasonable price. It's kind of hard to express how warm, kind, and accommodating she is -- and it's one of the best kept secrets in all of thailand. I recommend staying here before the hype grows; but, Siri is such a women of integrity that I doubt that would change her attention to making every guest gave a unique and special experience. Seriously, check this place out!!
Siri is one of most welcoming host that I have been meeting. She picked up me at Chiang Mai Train Station and that was comfortable, nice, secure and cheaper than a Taxi. She does everything to make you feel better. After busy Bangkok, Siri's Homestay was the best choice because is a kind of camp guesthouse far from city, then I could sleep better. My first idea was stay only 3 days and in the end I decided for 5 days.
She cooks well with own garden products, fresh eggs, then you can have all meals at guesthouse with reasonable price. But if you want to go to market or eat in another place you have a free bicycle available for you, and you can find market and restaurant only 10-15 minutes cycling. Also, Sirikorn give you the opportunity to meet her friends and hangout around Lamphun, what is really nice way to have local people meeting and enjoy Thai way of receiving foreigners. I recommend everything!
We chose this homestay after reading positive reviews about Siri's tranquil garden space and her amazing hospitality. If anything, the experience exceeded expectations. Siri gave us a warm welcoming and an incredible hot, multi-course dinner (200baht) after a complicated trip from the airport (taxis were booked) and the bedroom space was clean and very nice.
Listing description is accurate, garden is really impressive--she always uses her own plants and chicken eggs in her cooking, which is also fun. She is an amazing cook and a very generous and kind person. She has relaxation and sitting places throughout her garden and property and is always around if you need anything.
We especially loved our final night, after getting to know Siri and enjoying a relaxing evening with her and her friends, singing, dancing, eating delicious food, trying some of the local drinks...
And the neighborhood is really pretty if you take her bikes out to the local wet market/bus stop.
Note to newcomers to Thailand: there aren't designated bus stops--just wait on the right side of the road and flag down a tuktuk.
We definitely recommend a visit to the Umong Homestay if you're looking to meet a wonderful local (and her adorable dogs) and experience a few days of peace, with easy access to Lamphun (a good day trip, 30min tuktuk, 50cents) or Chiang Mai (40 minutes, ~$1 during daytime).
Sirikorn was most welcoming from the time we arrived at her place. There is more to her place than I expected as there is a large shared covered area with an outdoor kitchen which means there's plenty of space to relax and facilities to cook. I've also been able to do my washing. Her place is about 3 kilometres from the market and she has bikes for us to use which is a massive bonus. From the market you can get a local bus into Chaing Mai and Lamphun for around 50p. Sirikorn is a wonderful host. I am very interested in crafts of all kinds and she has introduced me to some of the local crafts in the area which has been an amazing experience for me. If you are looking for a local experience then I can't think of a better place to be.
This was my first experience with Airbnb, so I was naturally a little nervous, but Sirikorn welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. She is one of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met! I stayed for 5 days and found plenty of things to do around the local area: herbal steam sauna, bike riding, visiting markets, visiting temples, day trip to Lamphun with bus as well as enjoying amazing food and relaxing in the shade of the trees with a book. Staying in this rural area gave me the experience of authentic Thai countryside living. I was the only white person I saw during my stay... It is easy and safe to get there and stay there - I highly recommend it! I want to come back because I loved it so much.
Sirikorn was a very friendly and helpful host. She came to welcome and drive us from the city center to her place when we arrived with the taxi from Chiang Mai. She also drove us to a restaurant for the dinner and to the bus station the day we left.
The house is in the countryside, a nice location to go jogging in the nature and visit surrounding villages.
In the room, there is a toaster, fridge and water boiler. There is a huge and wonderful garden around Sirikorn's house.
Sirikorn was very friendly and helpful from the first moment on!
We had a lot of mail contact before we arrived and she helped us to get a taxi from Chiang Mai Trainstation to her place, as she talked with the driver. It takes about 40min from Chiang Mai City to get there.
The house and surrounding is very beautiful, in the middle of the country side. The room was comfy and clean. It has a TV, Toaster, Fridge and Waterboiler.
We could use her bicycles to drive around and to the market.
My name is Sirikorn from Lamphun Thailand. I used to work for government and left the career to pursue my dream of hosting people around the globe. I love to live in a country side and spend my time taking care of plants.
