It takes about 5 minutes to line #03 (orange) Anguk subway station exit #03 and nearest bus stop is about the same distance. Green shuttle bus #01 that goes around the village, is one minute away from Sopoong.
Where you stay is part of your journey. Sopoong means a picnic in Korean. It is where you may share and enjoy culture, history and friendship. Sopoong is for those people who know how to appreciate such values!
I (website hidden)d your comments and as far as what it translated is right I could only see great and sweet words from you. It was real great having some wonderful conversation during tea time and casual times. Your couple both had a sense of humor all the time! Hope to see you again! Take care back in Holland or the Netherlands!
I will surely recommend Sopoong to people who want to have a traditional Korean experience!
We were a group of 5 girls and we asked for 2 rooms. Room 01 is big enough for 3 adults with TV whereas room 02 is enough for 2 adults.
The neighbourhood has many traditional houses like Sopoong, but I reckon Sopoong is very accessible. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk from Anguk station!
The toilets are located in the 'garden'. Although it was cold in the night, it was clean!
KJ, Yumi and Paul are one of the best hosts I have met. They are very patient and polite, and always check on your needs. (Thank you guys!)
It was a pleasure meeting Kj and staying at his Sopoong guesthouse. Thanks for the great welcome and hospitality during the lunar new year stay. Your mom's food was very good! We had a great time during the traditional tea ceremony with you and other guests. Although all the places were closed for the new year, we really appreciate you spending your time recommending good food and activity around Bukchon!
Overall stay at Kj's Hanok was a great culture experience. The place is very clean, cozy, and comfortable. One minor thing I thought needing improvement is the shower in the men's restroom. It was a bit difficult to shower and wash the hair because the shower was in the corner of the sink. Other than that the place was perfect. Everything you needed was there. Highly recommend this place!
This review is very overdue, but even after a busy month since returning from Seoul, I can still say my stay at Sopoong absolutely made the trip.
My boyfriend and I arrived late, but KJ was more than happy to let us in, help us get settled, take us through maps and destinations we should explore the next day and just make us feel at home. The perfect host.
It's an amazing experience to stay in a traditional Korean guest house for starters, but between KJ's warm welcome, the wonderful night's stay, the tea service Youmi prepared for us and the amazing walk through snow-covered local traditional neighborhoods, it was the best 24 hours in Seoul we could have hoped for.
Will absolutely be back next time -- hopefully for a longer visit!
Thank you so much! It doesn't matter if it is overdue! Yeah, great to hear that your stay at Sopoong was something great and it was short yet awesome hosting your couple and having a chat that night. Please let me know when you ever come back for longER period haha.
The Hanok was clean, quiet, and warm. KJ is very knowledgable about both Korean customs and where to go in the local heritage area. Within walking distance were palaces, shops selling traditional crafts, and good, affordable Korean food. We loved the traditional bedding in the Hanok. KJ went out of his way to show us where the locals shop for bedding. Amazingly we found the traditional bedding at very reasonable prices in his expert guidance.
The traditional tea ceremony with KJ's assistant Yumi with the winter morning sun filtering through rice paper walls from the court yard garden a serene highlight from the hustle and bustle of Seoul. Yumi also prepared us a traditional breakfast which was a very welcome surprise.
All in all we loved our stay in Sopoong, it was much more than just a place to rest your head. Strongly recommended!!
Sopoong guesthouse was really a pleasant stay for me. I was lucky to be able to get a room during my stay in Seoul for 2 even though the reservations were made pretty last minute.
The place is unlike any other guesthouse I have been to. It is not large, but yet not uncomfortably small and stuffy. The cozy decorations made me feel as though I was living in a country side and the rustic location of the guesthouse also contributed to the overall village feel.
Though the rooms were near to each other, we were given utmost privacy and it helps that I happen to stay with guests who are very courteous and friendly. The owner and the managers were extremely friendly and would go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as it can.
We would wake up to traditionally home cooked Korean dishes and sit in the warm sunlight during winter before going out. Sometimes, pseudo traditional tea ceremonies would be performed by the owner for the guests without the complexities of etiquette being enforced. It was especially nice to me to be able to taste the different flavors of Korean tea in a very relaxed environment.
For those who wish to still keep in touch with modernity, there is a computer available and a guitar to tide over lonely nights. :D
All in all, for those who want to experience how a traditional accommodation in South Korea is like, I would definitely recommend this place!
KJ, Yumi & Paul are nice team to serve all their guests. I like the experience to stay in this transitional Guest House.
We had a great time at KJ's hanok. He and his friends are very nice and waited for us until late at night when we arrived from the airport. The were so kind to organize a pick-up service and reservations for shows and museum visits. Thank you very much! Besides, the Korean breakfast was delicious the hanok is in a very good location, the internet works perfectly....I can only recommend this place!
KJ is the kindest host you could meet in Seoul. I very much enjoyed my stay. He has a relaxed and welcoming manner that makes one feel at home. I left for the airport early, before the breakfast time, and he had a colleague run to meet me at the door with a carefully made "to go" breakfast.
The B&B is in an easy location, right near a few excellent coffee shops and not far from the metro. It is easy to navigate, and KJ helps guests get oriented. I was a solo traveler and felt well cared for in my short time there.
I stayed at Sopoong with a friend of mine for two days and we really enjoyed our stay. The Hanok is very close to the palaces and nice stroll around the Bukchon area for delicious food shops.
The Hanok itself was very clean and cosy. The best was meeting the host KJ who gave many great tips and took us on a tour of Bukchon. He spoke perfect English so we didn't have trouble communicating. He even held a traditional tea ceremony as a bonus. The traditional Korean breakfast cooked by KJ's mum is absolutely wonderful.
Highly recommend and would definitely come back again!
