About this listing

The Place in Paradise main attractions are the location, fantastic ocean front view, own entrance, and great accommodations. It offers you a peaceful retreat after a long day of exploring the Big Island.

The space

An unbelievable 180 degree unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean from the Place in Paradise. Beautiful sunsets can be seen right from the studio. A full kitchen complements a bedroom/living room that has fresh linens and towels. In addition, coffee, banana, and papaya trees on the property. We provide complimentary fruit (seasonal), water, juice and Kona Coffee upon arrival. Guests have their own entrance and there is free Wi-FI.

This is the dry side of the Island therefore, it is always sunny and nice at the beach. At night, the house and studio are at an elevation where it is cool. Topical Birds wake you up in the morning and Koke Frogs will put you to sleep at night. A mixture of tropical and horse/cow sounds can be heard throughout the day and sometimes at night. Away from the hustle and bustle of downtown this is a quiet retreat for a couple who like history and like being close to beaches.

Tropical beaches are a short drive away. It is in Honaunau, Hawaii and is 35 minutes from the Kona Airport, 20 mins. from Kona and 10 mins. south Captain Cook. Located in a quiet area across from the Painted Church (built and inside artistically painted in the 1800's).

5 famous beaches starting 4 minutes away from the studio : Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park - 4 min., Two-Step Beach at Honaunau Bay(snorkeling, diving) - 4 min., Manini Beach - 14 min., Kealakekua Bay/Beach: (marine sanctuary - snorkeling, kayaking, etc), Ho`okena Beach Park (camping, Kayaking) - 20min. If you want to go to more beaches on the Big Island they are there for your exploration.

Being in the heart of coffee country we have the Coffee Shack (famous for all organic breakfast with fresh bread baked daily) plus we have our own local grocery store (Choice Mart) just 10 minutes away.

Guest access

The guest will have their own entrance outside the main house into the studio that is on the second floor. Beach towels, chairs, boggie boards, and snorkel gear are available. A queen bed, numerous bath towels, shampoo, conditioner and soap is provided to the guests. A Dinning table where you can sit and view the marvelous sun-sets, stars, or eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Earl has to be the most amazing host i have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. From all of his stories of his world travels, to surfing and his wife Linda (unfortunately did not get to meet her) i had the best time. I really enjoyed heading into Kona with Earl for dinner and drinks on two of my three nights. I wish i could have stayed longer (or never left) but work is calling. I have to recommend this place to anyone staying on the Kona side of the big Island. You will need a rental car but this adds to the excitement of exploring! I will 100% be making sure if i visit the big island again i will be staying here and will make the effort to stay in touch with Earl who is the most amazing host and such an interesting guy! Make sure you ask him about the "shocker"!

Place in Paradise is perched on a hillside on a working coffee farm. There is dense growth of fruit trees and other vegetation. The entire main wall of the cottage is screened in offering an unobstructed view of the lush green landscape and ocean in the distance. We loved the incredible sound of the birds and other wildlife from the home. We also befriended the local cat and rooster. The cottage is nicely appointed with drinking water, juices, coffee and other snacks. The hosts also provided a cooler and snorkel gear, that we used every day to visit the nearby bays. BTW, snorkeling in this part of island was some of best we experienced. We used the gas stove, refrigerator, and coffee maker each day, as well. Although I did not meet Linda, Earl was a very gracious and thoughtful host. He offered fresh white pineapple and took his time describing the best snorkeling spots, restaurants, etc. The bed was very comfortable and sits high so you can see the moon at night or wake to chirping birds in the morning. Overall, we absolutely loved this place and would recommend it to anyone who wants a cottage-like feel in a beautiful, convenient setting.

A great secluded studio. It was much further away from Kona than expected, and would not be doable without a rental car - the house is a good 40 minutes from town, so anything too social or exploratory needs to be considered. Earl was wonderful and brought us a fresh pineapple, and snacks, the next day. Whilst we spend the days further north of Kona, and a long distance from the house, it was nice to have a comfortable and quiet space to go back to.

A great place to stay and Earl served as an excellent host. Your accommodations are basically a nice screened in porch. Four windows, all with just screens. We were there in June and the ceiling fan was easily all the cooling we needed. We loved the privacy we felt, while still having an awesome view of the countryside leading down to the ocean. While you are out in the country, you aren't far from lots to do and lots of restaurants and shopping in both Captain Cook and Kona. if you hear something falling/rustling in the palm trees, its probably the cat. You really should check out the Painted Church, it's less than 100 yards down the road.

The host canceled this reservation the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.

We enjoyed staying in this beautiful little location. Close to some magnificent snorkelling and the "Refuge" and also just far enough away from Kona's touristy madness. Great coffee shack nearby and good supermarkets too. Earl already stacked the fridge with drinks and nibbles for our stay. Earl was respectful, friendly and very generous. We even got to use his flippers for snorkelling. The screen windows have an amazing view, but some little bugs find their way through the screens it seems. You're in a tropical area though, so it adds to the feel. Having private well stocked kitchen was very handy and the bed sleeps 2 very comfortably. Thanks for your hospitality Earl, we wish you and Linda all the best.

We are a retired couple looking for vacationers that are adventurous in the day and want to come home to a quite oasis in Paradise at night. We decided to stay by the Painted Church and the Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park in Captain Cook ,Hawaii, because we like Hawaiian history. From our location, we love the 180 degree view of the Pacific and always sit out to watch the sunset. Come join us, watch the sunset, in our quiet peace of paradise.
