The studio overlooks the Pacific Ocean with an 180 degree unobstructed view. This is the dry side of the Island therefore, it is always sunny and nice at the beach. At night, the house and studio are at an elevation where it is cool. It is a quiet retreat for a couple who like history and like being close to beaches. A full kitchen complements a bedroom/living room that has new linens and towels. In addition, their are coffee, banana, and papaya trees on the property that is ready for picking. We provide complimentary fruit, water, juice and Kona Coffee upon arrival. Guests have their own entrance and there is free Wi-FI throughout your stay. Every item in the studio was purchased this year!
Tropical beaches are a short drive away. It is in Honaunau, Hawaii and is 35 minutes from the Kona Airport, 20 mins. from Kona and 10 mins. south of Captain Cook. Located in a quiet area across from the Painted Church (built and inside artistically painted in the 1800's).
5 famous beaches starting 4 minutes away from the studio : Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park - 4 min., Two-Step Beach at Honaunau Bay(snorkeling, diving) - 4 min., Manini Beach - 14 min., Kealakekua Bay/Beach: (marine sanctuary - snorkeling, kayaking, etc), Ho`okena Beach Park (camping, Kayaking) - 20min. If you want to go to more beaches on the Big Island they are there for your exploration.
Being in the heart of coffee country we have a Coffee Emporium shop (famous for it's Coffee (Barista on site), Sour Dough Bread, and Pastries) plus we have the Big Island award winning "Jakes BBQ", all only 10 minute drive from our House.
The guest will have access to their own kitchen, bathroom, and a 180 degree of the Pacific. Wi-Fi is standard and any fruit in season is available at no cost. Aloha drinks (juices) , bottled water, and snacks, again at no cost.

Earl and I interact with the guest to greet them and, when needed, answer any questions. Otherwise, we leave the guest on their own.
The neighborhood is friendly and quiet. The guest will be refreshed in the morning to tackle anything they want to do on the Big Island of Hawaii. The guest's can also rest in the comfort of a Place in Paradise studio.
The studio is not so close to public transit and we recommend a car. The National Park on the beach is just 5 minutes away by car. There are two other beach within 6 and 10 minutes away by car.
Parking is free and on the premises.

You will never want to leave. Linda and Earl are the best hosts, and their gorgeous place is just what we needed!
Location: cannot be beat. 2 minute drive from Place of Refuge, the number 1 dive/snorkel spot on the big island. 1 min walk to The Painted Church. A few minutes drive to many local restaurants. Maybe 10 minutes at most to Choice Mart (Grocery). South of Kona in the best area of Hawaii--quiet, and NOT a resort area. You will see the "real" lovely Hawaii lifestyle and Aloha spirit.
Amenities: Wonderful kitchen, screened in studio (no a/c or TV which is a blessing--not needed!), free tree frog symphony at night, bird arias during the day, snacks/water/coffee and the best fresh fruit ever provided. Large shower (no tub, not needed), super capacity washer and clothes line, outdoor hose for rinsing dive/snorkel gear (amazing!).
Hosts: What more can I say? we now have a Hawaii family. Earl took my husband golfing, and they even showed us a place down the road for sale. I am hopeful we can be their neighbors soon. So, that is the only problem with their Place in Paradise: it is impossible to leave. You will never find better hosts, freinds, and (hopefully!!) future neighbors.
SHORT: WONDERFUL. MIDDLE: Truly 180 degree unobstructed view of the coast, looking into the sunset; under 4 minutes (I timed it) from 2 Step which was some of the best snorkeling we found on the island. Clean, comfortable, well designed. Earl and Linda are the people you always wanted as neighbors. LONG We spent a full week here. Quiet, rural, away from the shoulder to shoulder resorts of north Kona. Steep slope with coffee bushes below our room; we awoke to the delightful plunk plunk plunk of coffee cherries dropping in the buckets of coffee harvesters one AM. Earl and Linda are warm, welcoming, and oh-so-generous. Every day there was yet another surprise waiting for us - something they thought of which might make our stay more enjoyable: more fresh fruit from the property, beach chairs and shade umbrella, a boogie board, clothes drying rack, soft sided cooler to carry lunches, and so on it went. The kitchen was well stocked with more than just basics - there was oil for cooking and a lb of coffee, 1/2 & 1/2 for the coffee, a stick of butter in the fridge, popcorn for the microwave, etc, etc. We kept looking at eachother saying "Oh!, Oh!" as we looked in drawers and cupboards. The queen mattress was firm and comfortable, the bed is raised up on a tall pedestal so that, lying in bed, you look directly out at that immense view of the coast. On the shelves there is probably every guidebook to the island and large island maps. About 3 miles back north on the ring road is a little shop, Kona Seafood, which had lovely fresh Ahi and Ono every day at the best price we encountered anywhere, and next to it is Big Jake's BBQ (great ribs). Another 3 miles back is Choicemart - a large, well stocked supermarket. We cooked almost all our meals here: Kona coffee, fresh fruit and fresh fish every day all week. Some of the best snorkeling is right here, you see it out the window: 2 step and the marine sanctuary. (Under 4 minutes to 2 Step.) It is a bit more of a drive to the more crowded beaches/snorkeling of north Kona but I don't think we ever drove an hour to get anywhere along the Kona coast. Volcano was a bit further but you want to see it especially at night, so we cruised over to Volcano during the day, then onto snorkel tidepools at Kapoho, back to Volcano after dark, and were still home by 8 or 8:30PM. I see that there seem to be 2 schools of thought in building style. Here where the outside is so beautiful and inviting, the traditional island style of building provides shelter but makes as little distinction between the outside and inside as possible. Earl and Linda's is like this. The other style is transplanted from harsher climates. If you want a sealed box with AC - stay in north Kona.
