About this listing
Comfortable bedroom perfect for lazy afternoon naps. Open double doors & let nature in.
My home is a cozy 2 story cottage on the Leadenwah Creek, 19 miles southwest of downtown Charleston, SC. My bedroom & bath are downstairs. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs & a shared bath area. One of those bedrooms with a modified (5 inches longer), full-sized bed is featured for rent on this site. We have an outdoor shower with hot & cold water. The television is in the living room with 8 channels, including the major networks, & Apple TV featuring Netflix. Wireless internet is included.
Please note that I have 2 listings, the other Ruby Ranch - Marsh Bedroom, each offering a full-sized bed. There is a 3rd listing, The Ruby Ranch, if you desire to rent my entire home. If you have a 3rd person or a child or two, I also offer a comfortable couch, window seat, bed swing & double chaise for fetching a good night's rest. There will be a $15/night charge for extra sleepers in these spots.
My kitchen and living area is to be lived in as if it's your own. Meals taken on the porch overlooking the Leadenwah Creek are peaceful and relaxing. My washer and dryer are available for you, also.
Enjoy the quiet peace that Wadmalaw and my 10 wooded acres afford you. Take a free tour through the woods & neighboring cemetery accompanied by my 4-legged guides, Moose & Stella. (A belly-rub tip is greatly appreciated.) Swim, kayak, fish, enjoy the sunset from my private dock. If it's cool, have a bonfire. Fresh eggs, compliments of Sammy & Maggie, are available & encouraged. Country amenities abound at my home.
My birder visitors have exclaimed about the rookery, laden with no less than a dozen white egrets, existing in a tall, droopy tree jutting out from a hunk of mud in our marsh. This lush marsh, tidal creek and mud out my front door draw a variety of fowl, including Snowy & Great Egrets, Clapper Rails, Tri-Color Herons, and Red-Tailed Hawks, to name a few.
Your drive to nearby historic plantations is a tree-lined, country delight without city traffic. The same is true for day trips to the resort islands of Kiawah and Seabrook. John's Island is right next door with many relaxing activities, including horseback riding & farmers' markets. Our own Wadmalaw has America's only tea plantation and a local winery boasting the popular Sweet Tea vodka.
Folly Beach is a 23 mile drive. Kiawah's Beachwalker Park is 22 miles. This is owned & operated by Charleston County Parks and is a lovely drive on an oak-canopied country road.
Entire home, grounds and dock are available for our guests to enjoy; canines included! There is a blow dryer and flat iron, also.
Interaction with Guests
My interaction with guests depends on my work and social schedule. Often I hardly see my guests at all, but sometimes we share meals together on the porch.
Other Things to Note
We have 1 large friendly dog & 1 smaller, friendly puppy that live outside.
Please, no smoking house or porches.

Fran is a delightful Southern hostess with a warm and welcoming heart. Her home and property are exceptional. The views of the marsh are enjoyed from the porches and the colors of the marsh grasses change throughout the day. The drive through the island takes you down lanes where the trees form a canopy over the road. No traffic!
My Wife and I had a great time staying at the Ruby Ranch, we wish we could have stayed longer, the house and land were beautiful and Fran is a great host who kept a very clean home. Her 2 dogs are awesome and were great hosts as well. The house and land were something out of a movie and just how I pictured the south should look like. Fran is the definition of Southern Hospitality, I highly recommend this listing for somebody who wants to stay in a relaxing, beautiful, and authentic southern home with a friendly and gracious host. Thanks again Fran!
It was great to be back at Ruby Ranch. Fran does such a great job of making you feel welcome. From the moment you meet her you feel like long time friends. The house is so comfortable with great porches with amazing views of the marsh. We especially enjoyed napping on the outdoor bed! We will be back.
This place is magic! We loved all there! Pure nature! Fran is a really nice and warm person! Fran have two dogs, we had so much fun with the dogs! The only bad thing is that we couldn't stay longer at this wounderful place! I hope we come back again!!!
So thankful for Fran going out of her way to get a room ready for my husbands parents (who arrived a day early!). She truly went above and beyond to make our wedding special!
Staying at Fran's beautiful cottage was like coming home! Everything is so lovely, clean, comfortable and welcoming. We had great, easy communication leading up to and after our stay. Fran was the perfect hostess and so gracious inviting us to utilize all that we needed to feel right at home. The dogs are sweet; my daughter loved having them to play with. Lots of fun spots to enjoy, especially the long, long deck out to the river. My favorite part, however, was keeping the bedroom doors open to hear the symphony of morning birds as the sky lightened. We can't wait to come back!
We stayed at Ruby Ranch for one night during a whirlwind tour of Charleston and the surrounding low country. We could not have asked for a more comfortable night's sleep, excellent restaurant recommendations, warm hospitality, or breathtaking views! We would absolutely return to Wadmalaw to stay with Fran again!

About the Host, Fran
I was born and raised in Estill, SC and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Nursing. I work at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC in Cardiac Surgery. Getting home to my comfy cottage in the woods, on the creek is the best! I am a single, empty-nester with bedrooms to spare.
