About This Listing
John Lewis House is a Bed & Breakfast with two bedrooms each with one queen bed accommodating a maximum of two people. Each room has a private bathroom. The price quoted is for one room.
The John Lewis House was built in 1900 by master cabinetmaker John Lewis, who came to Victoria from Wales in the late 1890s. Evidence of his craft can be seen throughout the house, especially in the ornate mantelpiece and decorative woodwork in the living room as well as in the wood-panelled vestibule.
The John Lewis House is located on Government Street in James Bay, the oldest residential neighbourhood in Victoria. James Bay contains many significant heritage homes that are designated under the city’s Residential Heritage Program.
Our house is less than a block from the Dallas Road waterfront, where you can walk towards Ogden Point in one direction, or east to Clover Point and further around the coast. The scenery is stunning, with the Olympic Mountain range in Washington State to the south across the Strait of Georgia.
Downtown Victoria is 15 minutes’ walk from the John Lewis House. Local We are ideally placed for visits to the Royal BC Museum, the Legislature, the Inner Harbour and many other attractions as well as shopping and restaurants.
Beacon Hill Park is a short walk away, where you can enjoy the many landscaped gardens, especially the rhododendron garden, as well as the trails, playground, playing fields and petting zoo. Pause for a while to watch games of tennis, cricket, lawn bowls, or even croquet.
No smoking, no pets - only other rule is consideration for other guests
We very much enjoyed our stay in Victoria. The historic home was very charming as were the hosts. Breakfast was exceptionally delicious and the location of the home was just a short walk to the downtown area. We would definitely consider a return visit to this B&B.
If I could, I would give 11 stars for Bob and Becky. The house is gorgeous, and they've thought of all the little things, giving the rooms all those perfect touches to make a guest comfortable. For example, the towels were magnificently fluffy, we had our own radiator for heat, and they marked up a Victoria tour book so we could easily see what was available for us to do and wander around town Plus, later that evening, while sitting downstairs in the living room, they even brought us tea.
And then...there was breakfast. It was *truly* wonderful. We had fresh Greek style yogurt, homemade granola, homemade muffins, crepes with spinach, cheese, and mushrooms, homemade jam, etc. etc. etc. We didn't really need to eat for the rest of the day.
We will be going back and staying with Bob and Becky this summer. I would gladly recommend their place to everyone.
