The marina of Ponta Delgada, that provides a variety of nautical activities, such as whale watching and fishing, the swimming pool, Pesqueiro - another bathing area - and Portas do Mar, with restaurants and bars, are at a distance of 10 minutes walk, a journey made through promenade of the city.
The historic center of Ponta Delgada can also be reached on foot in 15 minutes, also through the promenade of the city.
The beaches and the Atlantic Park shopping center are a 5 minute drive.
The airport is a 10 minute drive.
To explore the island, we recommend renting a car.
We stayed in the double room sea view...It was beautiful...We stayed for 4 days. Nicolau is very gracious and helpful. The place was immaculate. We used the kitchen and it was well-equipped. They clean every day and you really couldn't ask for more. Shared bath, and it is on the first floor. they are adding on, so hoping another bath is added upstairs....Thank you, Nicolau, you are a fine young man...staying at your place made our 45 the wedding anniversary a real pleasure as we explored Sao Miquel...Blessings to you, Steve and Barb Semple
We had an unforgettable stay in Casa da Ilha. Nicolau and Helena are very friendly and helpful hosts who gave us a lot of practical information and recommend a lot of places where to go on the island.
The house has got everything you need and we had a very lovely room with sea view.
The communication was really easy and quick.
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa da Ilha. 100% recommendable!
We had a great stay (only 2 nights) at Casa da Ilha. We did not meet Nicolau and Helena, but Vanessa was very helpfull! The house and the room was very clean. The house is situated some 15 minutes walking from the city centre. You have the possibility to cook and do your laundry, which is great.
We had a great stay with Nicolai. The room was very bright and clean and we had to share a large living plus a large kitchen with only two other couples. Nicolai is very helpfull, he puts you in the wright bus or even takes care for a good deal if you want to hire a car. So we can really recommend this place.

We spent only one night at Casa da Ilha but despite the fact that it was short, the stay was very pleasant. The room was comfortable and clean. We had to share the bathroom with the other guests but this wasn't a problem at all.
The hosts, Nicolau and Helena, were very nice and helpful. They helped us find the house upon arrival (which wasn't easy because the street numbers don't follow each other) and booked a taxi for our way back to the airport.
The house is located at about 20-25 minutes walk from the center of Ponta Delgada, but there is a bus stop nearby that goes to the center and to the airport.
According to our experience, Ponta Delgada is definitely the best place to stay on Sao Miguel to explore the island.
I had a great stay for two nights at ”Casa da Ilha – Twin Garden”. Casa da Ilha is situated right on the ocean (2 out of 3 rooms have an ocean view), just a nice 10 min. walk from the very city center of the Azores capital, Ponta Delgada.
Rooms were light and clean, bathrooms were fresh and everything was what I expected or better. There is a fully equipped kitchen where you can cook your own complete meals or just have morning coffee. There was even a carafe of liqueur in the living room from which you could have a little taste before going out for dinner.
The hosts, Nicolau and Helena, were very friendly and gave a bunch of tips on what to do here on the island (according to my specific preferences). I was even picked up and dropped off in the city centre by the hosts in their car (at their suggestion).
Great price performance and as a whole a very good accommodation, i definitely recommend it!

PS. Don't miss out on visiting Hotel Monte Palace, an abandoned hotel overlooking Sete Cidades on the West part of the island. It's very eerie and exciting! Here's my video of it and there are several other videos and pictures online: (website hidden)
