Norma was hospitable and welcomed us into her house very warmly, and shared the house rules to get us familiar with everything around. She left breakfast for us every morning, which was bread muffins Nutella and fruits, along with coffee and milk - this was very delightful as every morning we did not have to worry about breakfast and could just start exploring Barcelona immediately. Her house location is very convenient to travel around the city, and there is a night shop close to the metro station where we would pick up our food n other essentials every night upon return. A good choice for a home stay when in Barcelona for 2-3 days!

Norma was kind. The bathroom was not very clean. No air conditioning and internet was slow and sometimes did not work at all. It was OK, but would not choose to stay there again when in Barcelona.

Norma

The room was not as listed. On the description it didn't say we couldn't use the kitchen and she told us to help ourselves and make ourselves feel at home, but the next day she shouted at us for using the kitchen saying "It's not a hotel just a room, the rest of the house if out of bounds." She offered us breakfast (muffins and croissants that were individually wrapped) and later said we wasted it and she had to throw it away. She seems emotionally unstable contradictory, stereotypical, and prejudice, and during our short stay we noticed multiple mood swings. She demanded we showed her our ID, threatened to kick us out and told us we had to have left by 11 am even though flexible check out time is stated in the description. A key was provided and she told us not to disturb anyone but we couldn't open the doors so asked the woman at reception who helped us with the locks, and later on she came into our room shouting at us for asking for help. We kept the fan on during the day on the lowest setting because of an allergy and also the room gets too hot as there is no breeze, and while we were out she came in the room and turned off the fan to open the window. She was really welcoming when we arrived offered us ice cream and a drink, so we took the glasses to our room, but next day she said we couldn't have them and gave us plastic cups. The bathroom door doesn't close and there is no lock and there was no toilet paper provided. On our last night she tried to explain to us how to open the doors and when we couldn't open one of them someone came down to help us but found out that we didn't have the right key for the front door.

We were both very satisfied with Norma. The room was really clean, there was complete privacy and Norma herself was really discrete. If we want to have low budget vacation in Barcelona, we will definitely choose her again!

This room is very centrally located and affordable. Unfortunately, as some others have described, we had several issues and would not book here again. In addition to some apparent emotional stability issues, the host seems overly focused on the financial gain of hosting, and I would not be surprised to discover she is cutting serious corners at the expense of her guests to save a few cents or seconds of effort. That's not a good feeling to have, no matter how affordable the price. The listing does not reflect the house rules that Norma enforces. i.e. luggage wheels are not allowed on her floors, so luggage must be carried from outside the apartment to the room. Important points were omitted i.e. she did not mention that the water is not potable until the morning of our departure. She said we should have been buying water- her filter was not available for our use. As others have mentioned, the listing has numerous photos of the kitchen and living space, but these spaces are not really available for guest use. i.e. when I asked about use of the kitchen, the response was, "well I only have one fridge..." The photos of the room are also inaccurate (I see these have been removed from the listing since I booked). A major reason we chose this room was because of the 3 beds shown in the image; we didn't want to use the top bunk. Upon arrival we found ourselves in a different room, so small that the trundle couldn't be pulled out from under the bed. As others have mentioned, the room is very hot with no real solution. With a window open, a neighbor's cigarette smoke would drift in with enough intensity to waken us. The hall light was too bright to leave the door open and was turned back on when we turned it off. In general the room was clean, but we did find it challenging to meet the host's no-shoes rule without getting very dirty feet. The breakfast is individually wrapped croissants and muffins with off-brand nutella and jam; milk was only provided until it ran out. We purchased our own breakfast items to prepare. The host entered the room without our knowledge and opened a package, among other things. I speak Spanish fluently and had daily conversations with the host; however on the morning of our departure she verbally attacked me saying that i.e. I had refused to let her get to know us; that I am the strangest person that has ever stayed in her house, etc...she turned to my friend (very limited Spanish), called her a "mute", and said she had never even learned her name, both of which were obviously untrue. Soon after this I heard her telling another guest that was looking for warm milk for his coffee to "just put it in the microwave, that's what normal people do" so I guess we weren't the only ones to get berated.
