Putting the Murphy bed down creates two different regions in the cottage for extra privacy.
Nestled in the very back of our backyard amid the cacti and bamboo, this sun-filled 1 bdrm, 1 bath cottage comfortably fits two. Enjoy spitting-distance access to UT, downtown Austin, I-35 and the MetroRail, as well as the restaurants, coffee shops, food trailers and parks of the eclectic Eastside Cherrywood neighborhood. Or just laze about on our hammock.
It's accessible through our driveway or a gate on the other side of our yard, giving you complete privacy to you come and go as you like. The queen-sized Murphy bed folds up to give even more space. Other features include a lots of window space with blinds, a large desk/table, 24/7 WIFI access, and a mini-fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. And of course, AC (as well as heat for the one week of the year it's cold here).
We're located in the tree-lined French Place section of Austin's eclectic Cherrywood neighborhood, near campus and very central. Downtown is only a few minutes away by car, bus or train. You'll have an easy two-block walk to assorted coffee shops, groceries, liquor stores, taco joints and food trailers, as well as a fair share of well-reviewed restaurants. You can hop-skip to the bus or drive in under five minutes to the nearest MetroRail station (a must during SXSW or ACL, when parking downtown is impossible).
We'll work with you on check in-and-out times. Our two large cats will work with you on any feline needs. (Though they're not allowed in the space, so if you're allergic, don't worry.)
Parking is a breeze on the street with no restrictions or permits required.

An incredible host – better than a hotel. The place had everything I needed and Steve was kind enough to leave breakfast food, coffee and snacks. In addition, he left coupons for a local coffee house. He also offered a ride or use of a bike if needed.
The location was fine for me, right by the university. A great deal if you are staying in Austin. I highly recommend it.
Our stay at Steve's cottage was great! It has a private feel with the assuring factor that Steve is right there if you need assistance! It's a cute space, spacious for a "small cottage" which gives you your own space amongst others! It is centrally located in a cute neighborhood! Everything you could need and more is provided by Steve and this cottage!
Steve's backyard cottage was fantastic and consistent with the listing. The space is very cozy and private and within walking distance to the University of Texas and other attractions in the city. The neighborhood itself was very walkable and quiet, with plenty to do in the area. In addition to all the amenities mentioned in the listing and by previous reviewers (i.e. fruit, yogurt, granola, juice, coffee vouchers, wine, delicious homemade cookies, towels, etc.), Steve was extremely hospitable - an exemplary host. He provided my wife and I with an extensive list of local restaurants and shops and offered rides and other suggestions throughout our stay. My wife and I recommend Steve's cottage to anyone staying in the Austin area. If the cottage is available the next time we are in Austin, there is no where else we'd rather stay.
Such a cozy place in the cutest neighborhood and centrally located to everything we wanted to do. Steve was a great host! Super responsive and personable. Greeted us with treats and local area recommendations. We will for sure be back and hopefully for longer next time. It was truly the perfect weekend getaway
Steve's place was conveniently located, quiet, safe, and easy to find. Steve was helpful and had a very quick response time to my reservation request. I would recommend this great spot! I will stay again on my next trip to Austin.
My husband and I arrived at Steve's house at the planned time. He was there to greet us. The backyard cottage was as depicted in photos. It was clean and cheery. Steve had nice touches such homemade chocolate chip cookies, granola, yogurt, and cold seltzer, and orange juice in the frig. A bottle of Pinot noir was on the counter, and more. What was lacking? Spoons! Steve- you need to get some decent spoons. I would also recommend getting rid of the giant desk and putting in a couple of comfy chairs or a sofa. The location was wonderful- easy access to downtown Austin. Lovely neighborhood. We felt safe and secure. The neighbor's rooster was well behaved and didn't crow at annoying times. Thank you for a nice stay.
Wonderful cottage, wonderful host, great neighborhood...I highly suggest staying here! Super clean, spacious, and the cookies he left for us delicious! Thank you Steve! We will be back!
