Interaction with Guests
Antonella is from southern Italy where the art of hospitality is sacred (as it was in ancient Greece and southern Italy was called Magna Grecia) therefore her purpose in renting on airbnb is to welcome guests so that they can fully appreciate the Italian atmosphere and culture in Livorno. Besides, upon customer's request, by paying a small extra, it is possible to study and learn the Italian language during your stay Infact the flat belongs to a professional teacher of Italian with 21 years of teaching experience who has taught at the best language schools in Italy and abroad. With her you can learn Italian while living and experiencing the Italian life. You will share in ordinary Italian life with an extra (making it extra-ordinary!): a constant check of your spoken and written Italian. With her you can go to restaurants, cinemas, or you can help her in her vegetable garden, cook together delicious Italian dishes, sit by the Mediterranean sea and travel around; all of that while learning the Italian language with the support of a professional teacher. A unique experience!
The flat is situated at a walking distance from the centre (east) and at a walking distance from the seaside (west).
There is a supermarket nearby, and the tallest skyscraper of the town (a modest one, actually) is also nearby making it easy to orientate in the town.
There is also a nice park nearby (south), the perfect place to have a picnic or to spend an evening watching a movie at the summer outdoor cinema.
Viale Italia is a beautiful promenade along the seaside, the perfect place to stroll or to jog (9km long)
Livorno is located in an enviable geographical position. Florence, Pisa, Rome, Siena, the Etruscan coast, Le Cinque Terre and the islands are easily reachable by train/car or ferry.
To visit Livorno walking is the best way to enjoy the seaside, or the port and the canal, or the market. Livorno is located on flat ground, the hills surrounds the city centre, and it's easy to stroll around walking or by bike. The public transport is quite efficient, but it stops running after 9.00 p.m. You can buy a tourist card in Tourist center (in city center near Macdonalds), so you get unlimited ticket for all buses in Livorno and special offers and discounts for 5 Euro for 3 days. Other Things to Note
Livorno is an authentic Italian town, and since it is not very touristic, you can anjoy the real Italian atmosphere, listen to the Italian language and learn about the authentic Itralian culture. I think this is the purpose of travelling: to be changed by what you learn about foreign cultures and the best way to do it is by meeting locals. That is why I would like not only to be just your host, but an Italian passionately in love with her culture who wants to share that passion with you, particularly by teaching the Italian language. The best way to travel!
My ideal guests would be interested in the Italian culture, would like to learn as much as possible about the language, the cuisine, the political situation, the way everyday things run, normal things, from grocery shopping to the national health service. I would be glad and happy to teach, instruct and convey my culture, as I would be happy to be taught and instructed about any other culture in the world. Therefore the main house rule is to have a guest ready to experience a cultural exchange to promote mutual understanding.
I had such a lovely time with Antonella. Her home was so calm and beautiful and I was left wanting to nothing. It was wonderful to chat with her about language and culture and I really hop to return soon.
What a wonderful place to be! Antonella was such a beautiful person to stay with. She had great advice on where to go and what to see and do. She really wants to show you the Italian way! Stay with her-- it is worth every minute.
What a lovely stay in Livorno and a textbook example of just how good Airbnb can really be!
Antonella is such a heartwarming, considerate and welcoming person. She made sure I arrived safely and welcomed me in her place, showing me around and even offering me refreshments on a very hot day. This was so nice! She had a lot of good recommendations for me and prepared a very nice breakfast every day. I felt not only like a very welcome guest, but actually as if I belonged to the family. We had a lot of very inspiring and wonderful talks over a glass of wine or two. Antonella has a lot to share and I sure wished I could have stayed longer!
The room had everything I needed and Antonella took great care that I feel well. It is also very conveniently located, easy to reach by bus or even by walking and close to the waterfront as well as the city center. Livorno also has very nice surroundings and a wealth of possible activities. Moreover, from Livorno you can take a train to Pisa for just 2,50 to explore another beautiful city.
I surely enjoyed my stay and wished it had been longer. I'd love to come back and stay with Antonella again. Highly recommended!
I had the most lovely stay with Antonella. She made me feel so welcome and at home, in her beautiful homely place. The room is comfortable and there is everything you need. The location is ideal if you need a bit of down time. Or, if activity is your thing, you need to be prepared to get out, travel on the buses etc and do things.
Antonella was kind enough to help me carry my suitcase up and down the stairs to her place.
Antonella, you are a very special lady! Thank you.
Antonella is absolutely fantastic. She did everything to make me feel at home. Her passion for her country, it's history, the language is great and she willingly shares it if you're interested. Her place is beautiful, tidy and very cosy. Close to the center and also to the sea. A perfect place to stay if you'd like to visit other places, eg. Pisa is only 15 mins. away by train. I had a fabulous time and strongly recommend her if you want to have an unforgettable holiday.
My opinion is that anyone traveling in Pisa - Florence area should see Livorno and meet Antonella, as it is one of the most inspiring traveling experiences one would ever have in Italy. The city of Livorno is indeed typically Italian, and away from heavy tourism routes. Antonella herself has traveled a lot and would compare, share her experience (of Pisa, of Florence, of Elba, of Sardegna...) and reveal 'little secrets' less mentioned or even ignored by mainstream tourist info sources. And, besides the traveling subject, this is a very good address to feel like home. From the first words, Antonella makes you feel like you visit a good friend, not a stranger whom you just met. Her house has an original style, there are lots of beautiful details, objects, paintings and drawings, all with an interesting story to say. A great destination!
Antonella is an amazing host. She is very considerate, kind and caring and she has great stories to tell! I recommend everyone to go to Livorno and stay at her place - you will not regret it!
The flat and area is perfect as well.
About the Host, Antonella
My name is Antonella Cecere, I'm 52 years old and what I like most is jogging along the Livorno shoreline. I'm a professional teacher of Italian to foreign students and, it goes without saying, I love languages, people and different cultures, especially as expressed in traditional cooking. For me the purpose of travel is to learn the language and taste the cuisine of the places I visit and the best way to do that is by meeting locals, like me.
