Situated 5 minutes by car to the popular & busy Cenang beach, Langkawi with it's white sandy beaches, many shops & restaurants to choose from and 15 minutes by car to the airport, TERATAK DAMAI LANGKAWI, Rustic Rural Retreat is a self-catering Guesthouse & private home on 1.25 acres of gated compound surrounded by paddy (rice) fields and verdant gardens.

It offers views of the Mat Cincang mountain and encounters with water buffaloes, open country & coastal birds and the elusive nocturnal Colugo or Flying Lemur for nature lovers.

The Malay word "Teratak" is used to describe temporary dwellings in an orchard and "Damai" in malay means "Peace".

TERATAK 1, the 1st of our authentic Malay Farmers' wooden Hut on stilts, sleeps 2 to a room.

This cosy (450sq ft) traditional 100 year old Malay Farmers' Hut with full room amenities & free WiFi, is fan cooled, well ventilated with cool breeze blowing through bedroom windows requires no air-conditioning. Ideal for a romantic getaway or honeymoon, it is furnished with 1 king-sized bed, 1 hammock, a modern toilet, hot-shower, veranda with table & chairs for meals, electric kettle, toaster, fridge, coffee & tea.

Kedawang Supermarket & Cenang Supermarket where you can get your dry goods, Cemara Pharmacy Langkawi & a village Laundry are only 5-10 minutes away by bicycle.

For those wanting to try local food, there are many warungs or local eateries along Jalan Kedawang after the PETRONAS petrol station & Jalan Kuala Muda after Bon Ton.

There is also a Night Market every Tuesday night with a colourful assortment of local food & wares which is also 5-10 minutes away by bicycle along Jalan Kedawang.

Take a walk or cycle (we have 2 bicycles available) through the peaceful village roads, take part in the many nature activities available on the island, learn to play the guitar, have a massage or simply lay in bed, enjoy the breeze & allow the gentle coo of the wood pigeons to lull you to sleep.

Being a tropical island surrounded by untouched nature and the Geopark a UNESCO Heritage Site, geckos, mosquitoes and bugs are a fact of life on the island. In your room, at your disposal, are mosquito coils, electric mosquito repellent & bug spray. Your windows are also screened (wire netting) to allow you to sleep with the windows open protected from bugs & mosquitos.

Marina is a great host and she made us feel comfortable as soon as we landed in Langkawi. Ms Ila came to pick us at airport, showed us the city and also helped us in getting motorbikes, sim cards and when ever we had any query she was proactive in helping us. The house was super cool, it's exactly how native houses are in Malaysia. Nice experience altogether. I would highly recommend Marina's place :)

It is so kind and sweet of Marina! She picked us up at the airport, show us around the island and give us many suggestions about visiting langkawi. The house is so lovely, it is a wooden house built more than 100 years ago. but it is well-equipped. Free orange juice, water ice cream, and bread are available. I want to live here and no longer come home.

If you are looking for a beautiful quiet retreat, a place that's comfortable, relaxing, then this is the place. This place was perfect for our honeymoon, and we loved every moment. Marina was so helpful, kind, and had great tips for sightseeing and all the lesser known places. Such a beautiful place!

Marina and Ms Illa (property manager) were great! We were picked up from the airport and shown around the town area to help get our bearings. The hut was cosy, rustic and really comfortable! It has a nice verandah to relax in and rumah ibu has a great collection of books! The hut is located 5 min from the beach by scooter - just remember to star it on Maps to find your way back easily :) highly recommended!

We had a very enjoyable stay in Marina's hut. She was very easy to communicate with before arriving, and despite not being around whilst we were there the resident manager Illa was very helpful in making our stay comfortable and smooth, starting off by patiently waiting for our delayed flight when picking us up, and then showing us around the local town and giving food recommendations for where to eat, as well as taking us to a good place to rent a scooter. The hut itself has a very authentic feel and is constructed such that the lack of air conditioning is not a problem despite being in the tropics, and has a large bathroom and well organised veranda which make for a very nice base to retreat to when one is exploring this delightful island. The place can be a little hard to find at night in the first instance, but very quickly one recognises the route and feels at home in the village. Highly recommended to any single traveller or couple visiting the island, since access anywhere is easy with a scooter or car.

This place is beautiful, set in a secluded spot for a truly relaxing stopover. Unfortunately we didn't meet Marina as she was on holiday but resident manager Ms Illa was wonderful, picking us up from the airport and being on hand to help us with whatever we needed. Thank you for a lovely stay on such a gorgeous island x

Marina User ProfileMarina is a superhost.

LOVE reading, gardening, wildlife, smell & sound of rain, open spaces, coffee, hammocks, wind in my face, travel, food & handmade craft.

I'm quirky, down-to-earth & practical. Quick to laugh with a dry sense of humour.

My husband Ruben the local drug dealer (he's a pharmacist) & I both suffered from burnout living in the city before moving to Langkawi (where we met) & making this our island paradise home. We are both Malaysians (of two different ethnic groups) who grew-up/studied/lived/worked in the UK & US (that's why one speaks with an American accent & the other a Yorkshire accent!). :D

Our 3 children who are now young adults are studying & working away from home.

We live here with our 4 cats, 1 hen & 1 jungle rooster surrounded by paddy fields, swaying coconut trees, water buffaloes & visiting migratory birds with the beach only 10 minutes by bicycle & 5 minutes by car away from our home.

We welcome honest, sincere people who seek a little respite from the stresses of life & would like a taste of living in a quiet village environment surrounded by paddy fields & a beautiful view of the Mat Cincang mountain range which is older than the Everest!

We live onsite and as a host we're available for help & enquiries but will give you plenty of privacy & space for you to relax & enjoy your holiday.
During the high season & certain times of the year, you'll be met & assisted by our Resident Manager, Ms Illa Khalid.

As travellers, we love travel tips from the locals on local sights & experiences! We love to explore or just sit quietly & read a book, drink coffee, soak in the atmosphere of the place we are visiting, are quiet & independent.
