Our family, three young adults, my wife and I, spent 8 days in the New Year 2013-2014 at La Casa Buena Vista. What a wonderful, peaceful, great place to be. La Casa commands a panoramic, fantastic view from the hill top. Whether at sunrise, sunset or during the dark night sky full of stars, the terrace is best place to be. Penny and Jay are great hosts and nice people. Penny made us a daily quick visit to check on our needs and make sure we were comfortable. She gave us suggestions of where to go and what to see. Penny is a pleasant person. Jay has a collection of surf boards in the house. In addition to rent them to us for a reasonable weekly price, he took the time to advise some of us, surfing novices, of the best boards and beaches to go surfing. Surfing was great and we all had one of the best New Year in a long time. My wife and I have in our minds to return to Casa Buena Vista in the future and we are recommending it with no reservations to our friends.
Jay has a lovely space! We were in the Honeymoon room and it was the perfect place to spend two relaxing evenings. I would recommend anyone stay here who wants to experience the beach but also have some solitude while staying in nature.
It was a great experience and a beautiful place to stay. It was nice to be a little secluded within the rainforest and still just a walk away from the town and beaches. We could have used a little more kitchen supplies since we tried to cook as often as we could. We were not famiar with the climate and were not able to get anything dry. We could have used a little help with a dryer or suggestions. Jay was around often to see if we needed anything. We enjoyed the surfing trip and appreciated the trip to the grocery store.
The apartment is great with large spacious rooms and a full kitchen, bathrooms off each bedroom and one bedroom has a walk in closet. Being situated on top of the mountain gives the deck an almost constant breeze, which is great in the hot and dry climate of Guanacaste. The plunge pool is wonderful for a cooling dip. My favorite place was the small hut on top of the house with a hammock and a 360 degree view.
The many stairs on the long staircase could be a serious problem for someone with issues of legs or knees.
Also, there is a serious water issue in the end of the dry season, we lacked water for 4 days during our stay.
Costa Rica is a very mountainous country with steep roads, and the roads in this area are horrendous with a lot of serious dust in the dry season - the road visibility can be as serious as the foot deep potholes. You definitely need a 4X4 vehicle.
