About this listing
Private home in gated community "Caramar" on the Pacific ocean. Spacious 2-story house with 3rd story look-out tower, 3 bedrooms each with a full bathroom. Large view windows, tiled throughout, tiled wrap-around patio and pool area, also with ocean view. Peaceful, last house along the beach in Playa Negra. Fishing, surfing and sunsets in your own backyard.
-Details: 2 bedrooms upstairs, one with king bed and A/C, one with queen bed no A/C, and one downstairs with 2 single beds and A/C. Each bedroom has it's own full bath (toilet/sink/shower). There is an additional shower outside by the pool area, and 2 additional single beds for guests, one upstairs, one downstairs The house is well ventilated and the winds are cool by the beach so we never use the A/C. It feels safe with the gate and guard house at the entry of the community. A popular surfing area, hotel and restaurant is a short walk or bike ride north. There are a few grocery stores and eating places in the town of los Pargos, a 15 minute walk.
-Charms: We spend most of our time lying in hammocks reading books or bicycle riding. It's beautiful and peaceful here, there are monkey families in the trees, iguanas and hermit crabs scurry across the yard, It's the last house along the beach so few people or cars ever pass by. The house was built 50 meters from the water which is the closest possible according to Costa Rican law. *If you want crowds, traffic & fast-food - Tamarindo is 1/2 hour north. If you want a place sanitized with bleach, disinfectants & perfumes - stay at a hotel.
foot, bicycle, surfboard, horse, rental car
Relaxation required! Enjoy the housewares: beach towels, books, cocktail glasses, curios, DVD's, If you accidentally leave items on the beach the high tide will come and steal them. Please replace any lost or broken housewares.
One of the joys is preparing food, delicious local fruits & vegetables & fresh fish. Please keep a tidy kitchen - otherwise unwanted critters will appear.
A housekeeper comes once a week (usually Monday) for 1/2 day for basic floor/bathroom/& kitchen cleaning (NOT your laundry). You may try arrange with her independently any additional cleaning work - she will quote you a reasonable price. It is OK to tip her.
There is a 2-week minimum stay during the holidays (Dec.17-Jan 6) The housekeeper takes the end of Dec. off for Xmas - sorry, no cleaning during that time period.
The house was spacious and pool was perfect for the kids. The area felt safe. Hostess accepted changes in check in/out and adding people (2 kids under 8 years) to reservation but was only worried about receiving the extra money since there was no sleeping accommodations for a 2 yr old. The path to the beach wasn't smooth and the gate was made of fallen branches poorly put together. We had to clean up all dangerous branches in the middle of the walkway to beach since even adults could have gotten hurt not to mention a toddler. Listing was a little glorified since having a beach that we couldn't enjoy due to bank of rocks near shore was never mentioned in listing. In front of the house there's an un paved road so I could understand more dust than usual but we had to spend time killing roaches and washing all utensils constantly in order to prepare a simple meal. All floors and furniture were dusty even after the "cleaning team" (1 woman) went to clean after being called. There were dog feces on the patio furniture. Beach towels were advertised on airbnb.com and were not found, there weren't enough towels.
The listing said a cleaning person would go on Monday, and the person who greeted us with keys said Tuesday but she didn't arrive until we called for her. Most of the kitchen appliances and electrics especially the stove, microwave and refrigerator were not working properly; the AC in both bedrooms wasn't big enough to cool rooms that there were dusty fans to help with temperature. The whole purpose of renting a house was to be able to feel like home. The kids called it the hell house.
The final touch was the constant calls starting at 7:30am to find out what time to meet to give keys back when listing said check out is 12. However, an agreement was made 2 months prior during booking process and a reminder was sent to hostess a week prior to arrival of said agreement. Hostess had lapse of memory loss that she put a request to Airbnb for $100 due to checking late, but we were on schedule. Even "cleaning team" came around 10am to start cleaning up which we didn't have a problem letting in. Hostess needs to improve on her customer service skills and work on her tone when sending emails to renters. Stop treating people like second class citizens.
I always try to improve our listing so that it is accurate. Costa Rica is a rainforest, branches continually fall on pathways, wind blows dust, the beach changes constantly, sometimes all sandy, sometimes reef is exposed, there are critters leaving their calling cards every moment of the day. When you arrive at the house it should be clean, there is not daily maid service, maintaining tidiness is the guests responsibility.
We had a great time at Roxanna's house in Playa Negra. The house was exactly what we were looking for- comfortable, enough space for each of us to have our alone time if needed, a super comfortable kitchen and living room, and a pool and beautiful beach just steps away. It was perfect! It was a short walk into town in case you needed anything. The pool was absolutely amazing to have and made for an easy option for cooling off when it was too hot!
And the reviews were true- so much wildlife to keep you occupied and howler monkeys will eat right from the trees on the property! The beach is truly beautiful even with the rocks- just be prepared to be careful and look for the right spots to swim!
The house is very nicely situated, very close to the beach, great pool. Having the air conditioned bedroom was a must, as it can get really hot in the rest of the house. Lots of animals to watch by the pool. Having the housekeeper come on Wednesday was great. Working washer and dryer was fantastic. During the dry season there was an issue with bugs (particularly ants) and you have to be very careful to clean up any mess, or even water in the sink. Otherwise the house was great, well worth the money. I definitely recommend walking up to beach to the surf break and eating at Negra Grill at sunset and watching the surfers! If you are a surfer this is the place for you!
We had wonderful family time in this Villa. We were there for 9 days and we're delighted with the setting. We were greeted by the local property manager Joff and he was very kind and helpful in many ways: lending us a beach stroller for our kid, and pointing out good beaches/places to hang out. The description of the house is accurate ie if you are looking for a sterilized environment, go elsewhere. This is a homey and rustic kind of place, perfect for unwinding and enjoying one of the best surfing spot in the area. The outdoor swimming pool is superb and has a shallow/slopped part: our 3 year old had a blast swimming in it all week long.
Four of us and our 10 month old stayed this March, 2015. The house was exactly as described in a very quiet location on a quiet, beautiful beach. Monkeys, iguanas, and more hermit crabs than you can count were our company... plus a few freaky and cool arthropods. Sarah and Joff, the couple who dropped off the keys were wonderful people full of great conversation and advice. Digna who takes care of garbage and laundry was also very sweet and respectful of space. Thank you.
We were welcomed at sunset by the friendly caretaker and shown around the house. It was perfect. Quiet area, spacious, right on the beach, close to town with restaurants and grocery stores, only 30 minutes from Tamarindo for some night life, and plenty of beach to explore at low tide.
Our host made us feel very welcome.
The listing was accurate and the neighborhood very quiet and secluded.
