About This Listing
Private home in gated community "Caramar" on the Pacific ocean. Spacious 2-story house with 3rd story look-out tower, 3 bedrooms each with a full bathroom. Large view windows, tiled throughout, tiled wrap-around patio and pool area, also with ocean view. Peaceful, last house along the beach in Playa Negra. Fishing, surfing and sunsets in your own backyard.
-Details: 2 bedrooms upstairs, one with king bed and A/C, one with queen bed no A/C, and one downstairs with 2 single beds and A/C. Each bedroom has it's own full bath (toilet/sink/shower). There is an additional shower outside by the pool area, and 2 additional single beds for guests, one upstairs, one downstairs The house is well ventilated and the winds are cool by the beach so we never use the A/C. It feels safe with the gate and guard house at the entry of the community. A popular surfing area, hotel and restaurant is a short walk or bike ride north. There are a few grocery stores and eating places in the town of los Pargos, a 15 minute walk.
-Charms: We spend most of our time lying in hammocks reading books or bicycle riding. It's beautiful and peaceful here, there are monkey families in the trees, iguanas and hermit crabs scurry across the yard, It's the last house along the beach so few people or cars ever pass by. The house was built 50 meters from the water which is the closest possible according to Costa Rican law. *If you want crowds, traffic & fast-food - Tamarindo is 1/2 hour north. If you want a place sanitized with bleach, disinfectants & perfumes - stay at a hotel.
foot, bicycle, surfboard, horse, rental car
Relaxation required! Enjoy the housewares: beach towels, books, cocktail glasses, curios, DVD's, If you accidentally leave items on the beach the high tide will come and steal them. Please replace any lost or broken housewares.
One of the joys is preparing food, delicious local fruits & vegetables & fresh fish. Please keep a tidy kitchen - otherwise unwanted critters will appear.
A housekeeper comes once a week (usually Monday) for 1/2 day for basic floor/bathroom/& kitchen cleaning (NOT your laundry). You may try arrange with her independently any additional cleaning work - she will quote you a reasonable price. It is OK to tip her.
There is a 2-week minimum stay during the holidays (Dec.17-Jan 6) The housekeeper takes the end of Dec. off for Xmas - sorry, no cleaning during that time period.
We had a great time at Roxanna's house in Playa Negra. The house was exactly what we were looking for- comfortable, enough space for each of us to have our alone time if needed, a super comfortable kitchen and living room, and a pool and beautiful beach just steps away. It was perfect! It was a short walk into town in case you needed anything. The pool was absolutely amazing to have and made for an easy option for cooling off when it was too hot!
And the reviews were true- so much wildlife to keep you occupied and howler monkeys will eat right from the trees on the property! The beach is truly beautiful even with the rocks- just be prepared to be careful and look for the right spots to swim!
The house is very nicely situated, very close to the beach, great pool. Having the air conditioned bedroom was a must, as it can get really hot in the rest of the house. Lots of animals to watch by the pool. Having the housekeeper come on Wednesday was great. Working washer and dryer was fantastic. During the dry season there was an issue with bugs (particularly ants) and you have to be very careful to clean up any mess, or even water in the sink. Otherwise the house was great, well worth the money. I definitely recommend walking up to beach to the surf break and eating at Negra Grill at sunset and watching the surfers! If you are a surfer this is the place for you!
We had wonderful family time in this Villa. We were there for 9 days and we're delighted with the setting. We were greeted by the local property manager Joff and he was very kind and helpful in many ways: lending us a beach stroller for our kid, and pointing out good beaches/places to hang out. The description of the house is accurate ie if you are looking for a sterilized environment, go elsewhere. This is a homey and rustic kind of place, perfect for unwinding and enjoying one of the best surfing spot in the area. The outdoor swimming pool is superb and has a shallow/slopped part: our 3 year old had a blast swimming in it all week long.
Four of us and our 10 month old stayed this March, 2015. The house was exactly as described in a very quiet location on a quiet, beautiful beach. Monkeys, iguanas, and more hermit crabs than you can count were our company... plus a few freaky and cool arthropods. Sarah and Joff, the couple who dropped off the keys were wonderful people full of great conversation and advice. Digna who takes care of garbage and laundry was also very sweet and respectful of space. Thank you.
We were welcomed at sunset by the friendly caretaker and shown around the house. It was perfect. Quiet area, spacious, right on the beach, close to town with restaurants and grocery stores, only 30 minutes from Tamarindo for some night life, and plenty of beach to explore at low tide.
Our host made us feel very welcome.
The listing was accurate and the neighborhood very quiet and secluded.
OUR CASA VERDE EXPERIENCE
We were 5 people. Two couples and a single. (Two active seniors and three super active 25 – 35’s.) We were there for 16 days. All in all we had a fantastic time and are considering a return
THE BOOKING EXPERIENCE
Roxanna, the owner, could not have been nicer. She gave us all the information we needed prior to arrival.
- The house is big and airy. Lots of fans kept air circulating
- Three private baths for the three bedrooms was a BIG plus
- Beds were comfortable
- Showers were good. Plenty of towels and a clothes line for damp stuff.
- Washer and dryer was also available. (didn’t use them much)
- Good drinking water from the tap
- Great spaces for working out
- The walk to the beach was not far
- An outside shower rinsed off the salt and sand
- Pool was great for cooling off but not deep enough for swimming
- Lots of wild life: Monkeys, birds, all kinds of crabs, frogs, bats, dragonflies, butterflies
- Bugs weren’t too bad
We are all good cooks and felt that the kitchen was the weak point
- Stove and fridge need some serious upgrading
- Not enough silverware
- A couple of “good” maps of the area would have helped a lot for our first couple of days. We were constantly lost because signage is virtually non-existent and all dirt roads look the same.
- Wi-fi was advertised but was non-existent and it was inconvenient to have to go into town to try to get on the web
- The house managers Joff and Sara were invaluable resources for local information . They and their kids could not have been nicer.
- The cleaning lady Digna was also very nice though she speaks very little English.
- Everyone we came in contact with was friendly
