I had an amazing stay here in NOLA! Jenna's house was beautiful, colorful, and comfy. It is super close to the French Quarter, about a ten minute walk, so it was very convenient. It was wonderful to stay in Treme. It didn't feel unsafe or uncomfortable walking around at night to and from the French Quarter. I loved the coffee shop next door! Jenna was super helpful in providing us with recommendations on food, music, and overall interests. I had a really great time and I would definitely stay at her place again!
Great little house. Very clean, and located close enough to walk to the French Quarter. The neighborhood is quieter and less refined than the French Quarter. I never felt unsafe but it is definitely less populated at night. There is a coffee shop right next door which was convenient because the house isn't equipped with wifi--luckily the cafe's signal was strong enough that we could have pretty reasonable internet access most of the time.
The bed was comfy and the kitchen seemed well appointed with lots of dishes, coffee/tea supplies, etc... We ate out almost exclusively so we didn't test it out on cooking. The two sofas in the living room flatten out for better sleeping, but other than that the living room is sparsely furnished. A coffee table or end table would be nice.
The use of the bikes was amazing!
Jenna provided us with some great recommendations for food/drink and detailed instructions on how to get in, how to work the AC/heater, etc...
All in all a great place to stay.
The Treme worked out great for our group and Jenna maintained good communications with us and provided us with all necessary information.
We were a group of five and the place worked great for us as our interest was spending time in the French Quarter, so we were really looking for beds and not for creature comforts, i.e., we were not in town to watch tv.. The cottage was clean, well maintained and we all slept comfortably.
The cottage has a great coffee shop next door and was a 5 minute walk to the Quarter.
Jenna was great and super accommodating! Thanks for everything.
The Treme shotgun house was just what we needed. We were a group of four guys celebrating a 30th birthday. We weren't in the home a lot but it was very comfortable while we were there. As others have said the bathroom curtain was a little odd but other than that the place was cute and comfortable. The area appears to be rough but actually it's very safe and friendly. We walked day and night and never felt unsafe. Taxis from the quarter cost about 6.50 on average. I would recommended Jenna's home for anyone staying for a few days, it will be exactly what you need.
This TREME house is an absolute gem & so close to everything we loved our 5 night stay & Jenna was a very helpful host full of solid eating & visiting tips that enhanced the true NOLA experience. The bikes are a great way to cruise the city & I definitely recommend using them. There is a coffee shop right next door & the park is almost opposite.
On all levels from cleanliness to convenience & for a real & authentic visit staying in a shot-gun house - stay here - I give it 5 stars!!
As a first-time user of AirBnB, not to mention a first-time guest of New Orleans, Jenna could not have been a better host. She was quick to respond to my requests for more information, and was welcoming from the start. My fiance and I felt right at home from the moment we arrived (including our dog), and found the place charming, comfortable, and absolutely spotless. The heating system worked well for us South Floridians and kept us comfortable even when nighttime temps dipped below freezing.
Prior to check-in, Jenna provided us with some excellent dining and music venue recommendations that were less-touristy and exactly what we were looking for. Still we found the daytime wandering from the apartment through the FQ an easy hike. We didn't use the bikes on account of our dog who joined us sightseeing, but they looked new and in working order.
As for the location, the school across the street, Armstrong Park, and the Treme Coffee shop (literally) next door provides a safe neighborhood vibe. The coffee shop makes one of the best lattes I've ever had and the WiFi worked fine once we had the password.
Take Jenna up on her advice and you'll have a great visit too. The music scene on Frenchman is not to be missed even if you forgo Bourbon St. as we did during our all-too-short 2 night stay. Ditto for brunch at EAT (a 10 min walk - BYOB). The fried chicken at Fiorella's on Decatur is the best in the known universe. Lastly we opted for dinner at Meauxbar a few blocks away on N. Rampart - a newer, classy-yet-cozy French bistro with excellent (albeit pricey) cuisine and service.
To sum up, I'll certainly look for availability at Jenna's place for my future visits to NOLA.
Jenna's house was a great place to hang our hats while visiting New Orleans. Clean and cute, and a very short walk to the French Quarter and just blocks to two minimarts, a good breakfast/lunch place (Lil' Dizzy's - just three blocks away), the coffee shop right next door, etc. We felt fine walking back at night - mostly used Ursulines St. as it's a bit more residential - but also took a cab from Frenchman for about $10 with tip, a trip that takes no more than five minutes.
The bed was definitely a queen - it's pretty high off the ground, which makes the proportions look funny, so maybe that's why someone referred to it as a "full" in another review? (Speaking of that, my shorter travel companion could have used a little stepstool or something for ease of getting in due to the height, although she managed.) Other things to mention: the bathroom was, as others have said, equipped with a curtain instead of a door, but we got used to it - a longer/heavier curtain might be a nice compromise, or maybe a sliding door nesting behind the fridge if a hinged one wouldn't work there? The bathroom warmed up quickly (we visited in December) thanks to a ceiling heat lamp, and the shower was great. We did find ourselves wishing for some kind of table - maybe just a little coffee table in the 2nd room with the futons, for morning coffee. And although there's a stove, we didn't see any pots or pans anywhere (we could have missed them)...but the coffee pot and microwave came in very handy.
Anyway, just a few practical suggestions there - we were very pleased with Jenna's place and found it a homey, clean and comfortable place to stay and would recommend it to anyone! Her directions for checking in were easy and clear, and full of good suggestions for restaurants and places to check out, and she was quick to respond to last-minute questions...great/friendly communication throughout our booking and stay. And we didn't end up using the bikes, but what a great amenity! Great stay - thanks, Jenna!
The pictures did not do the home justice! After 10 hours in the car, we were so happy to open the door to Jenna's beautiful, cozy home and call it our temporary home. It was less than 15 minutes walking to the French Quarter, which was great since we were able to go there and have that experience, but then we came home to our quiet house with ample parking. Since we had a car, we were able to explore other sections of town, but there were cabs in the neighborhood regularly, so we could easily have hailed one. The area immediately around the house seemed pretty safe (though we were sure to lock the gate and house when we left and re-entered) and we walked a good bit. The neighborhood is quite diverse and friendly and we enjoyed chatting with some of the people who lived in the area. Oh, and the cafe next door was a pleasant surprise -- good music, good food/drinks, nice service, interesting clientele, free WiFi -- it was a very convenient amenity to have so nearby. Thanks, Jenna, for a wonderful stay in NOLA, we definitely hope to come back again!
Jenna's place is VERY CLEAN! Its very close to the French Quarter! We rented a car, but the taxi service is very prompt! We are from Texas, and our friends from New York met us there. Unfortunately they brought along with them a stomach bug. They couldn't leave the house for 2 of the 3 days we had in NOLA. I guess the only things that would have made it a better experience would have been a door on the bathroom (there is only a curtain) and a TV. We wouldn't have noticed the lack of TV if it weren't from them being so sick & stuck inside.
We would wholeheartedly recommend Jenna's place! Our friends have vowed to meet us back in NOLA (minus the stomach bug)! Jenna gave us GREAT information of places to see and eat.. Very gracious!
We enjoyed our stay at Jenna's place. It has been renovated very recently, everything is new and fantastically clean. Full-size bed is comfy, nice towels and linens provided. Bath works great and there's hotel style shampoo/bath gel. Unfortunately there's no extra furniture apart from the bed, the futons and the closet, so no tables to eat in (but a modern kitchen and lots of utensils/dishes). Jenna mentioned she was planning to get one. Place is big enough to fit 4 people comfortably. WiFi from a nearby coffee shop reaches the house fine (the coffee shop itself is nothing impressive, cozy but overpriced and slow).
The area is OK, enjoyable during the day but a bit "empty" at night. Coming back home in the dark so close to the park is not that great if you're not comfortable with quiet and dark streets. We suggest taking Ursulines St as there are two hotels and lights in the Treme side of the walk (it really is just 5 minutes from the less-crowed area of the FQ). In our experience cabbies don't know the area so you have to guide them.
Jenna is a great host that gave us tons of ideas of things to do in the city. She was very responsive to our questions.
