Julian Estates is the name I have given to my 3 story, completely rehabbed and repurposed home. My house was built in 1907. I live on the 3rd floor and the large 2nd floor is where guests stay. Julian Estates has greater than an acre of land in the rear of the property with several raised beds planted with vegetables and fruits. In my quest to be sustainable and the “ultimate urban farmer”, I also have chickens. Feel free to partake in anything in the garden that is in bloom during your stay.
I am a thrift store hound so your room is artistically decorated with one of a kind finds. The mini-fridge in the room is pre-stocked with water bottles and almond milk. A large flat screen television, cable, and high-speed wireless internet. I now have loaner bikes as well!! There is ample closet space in the bedroom to store your luggage and souvenirs. Partake in any of my St. Louis history and guide books that adorn the night stand. I even have a book written by my father, "A Free Mind In The City" for guests to enjoy! A true St. Louis original!
Julian Estates is conveniently located half a mile from the Delmar Loop. The Delmar Loop is where you will find all the amazing ethnically diverse restaurants, the Center of Creative Arts, (COCA), the Regional Arts Commission, (RAC), and a plethora of unique boutiques. The Loop is a walking area that is always fun and filled with people from all over the world.
Julian Estates is (0.8 miles) from Forest Park, The Missouri History Museum (free admission), The Art Museum (free), and the amazing world-class St. Louis Zoo (free). I am 8.5 miles from the airport and just call/text me in advance and if available, I’ll pick you up or drop you off. If you choose to rent a car or are driving, I have off street parking in my two driveways. There are several buses nearby and the Metro Link is half a mile away. Julian Estates is approximately a mile and a half away from Washington University and Barnes Jewish Hospital. My alma mater, Saint Louis University is approximately 3-4 miles away.
If you choose to stay at Julian Estates, you will receive a 4 or 5 digit key code that allows you access to your room. Your suite is equipped with a punch code lock that allows you privacy and extra security.
Guests receive a goody basket typically containing items like oatmeal, trail mix, breakfast bars, and/or fruit.
I would prefer if full meals are not prepared on the stove, but anything small like soup or scrambled eggs is fine. I do not eat pork and respectfully ask that it is not prepared or cooked in my kitchen.
I have a 7lb pink poodle named Brooklyn. He is friendly, yet generally always on the third floor with me or outside with me in the garden.
Julian Estates is located in a city neighborhood. I have lived here eight years and my neighbors on the left and right have lived on this street for 30+ years. If you love the vitality and richness that city dwelling offers you then Julian Estates is the right place for you.
I am a total Saint Louis city advocate and boost and promote my community every chance I get! My community is diverse ethnically, economically, and by sexual orientation. However, if you are more comfortable with suburban facades and their false sense of “safety” than the history and uniqueness of urban dwelling, you may want to explore other options. Additionally, I have painstakingly restored my home from top to bottom and must insist that it is respected so if you’re looking for a party house or a place to release your wild inhibitions….you should look elsewhere. If you’re ready for urban luxury and history located in the middle of fabulous St. Louis City, Julian Estates is the locale for you. Hope to see you soon!
This house is historic and my family home. I ask that you are completely respectful to my home and its contents. Smoking is never allowed inside.
No unauthorized, "surprise" guests are allowed in my home. Only guests discussed and accepted at the time of booking are allowed.
Rasheedah was very welcoming and hospitable from the very first online contact, and was always very prompt in replying to any questions. Because of our schedules, I didn't actually see her that often, but we were in constant communication during my stay. The lovely and spacious room I was in adjoined a huge bathroom suite, and she provided cold beverages, snacks and simple breakfast options for her guests conveniently in the room, which was much appreciated. The bed was incredibly comfortable as well. Her home is a magnificent old mansion that is in an area that is an area that is seeing a rebirth, with many other beautiful homes in her neighborhood also being restored to their original grandeur. It was also easy to reach various other parts of St. Louis, including Forest Park, or the Delmar Loop from her home. I would gladly go back to Rasheedah's West End Urban Luxury on my next trip to St. Louis!!!
Rasheedah was awesome. We only met during check-in (but we were pretty busy visiting family). The home is lovely. It's old and a bit worn around the edges, but that's expected from such a vintage property. Rasheedah has obviously been doing work to upgrade it. It has a lot of character, and is nicely decorated. She left generous snacks for us. Cable TV is great, with a good package of channels. The neighborhood is a mixed-bag in this part of town. Some houses are obviously crumbling, while others are obviously being renovated. It was a good location for us, however, visiting family in nearby U City. While we only rented the master suite, the other rooms on that floor would make this property great for a family with small children.
Rasheedah was warm and welcoming, and has obviously put a lot of effort into restoring her place and providing all the comforts one could need. We loved having a refrigerator and coffee in our room, and I took a wonderful hot bath in the ginormous bathtub! We had an off-street parking spot and slept so well both nights. The wireless was fast and the area was very quiet. I would definitely recommend Julian Estates to anyone traveling to St. Louis!
Rasheedah was a wonderful host, helping us with nearby spots of interest and making our stay as pleasant as possible. And her family home is utterly incredible. Walking through the front door our first night we could tell we made the right choice, with gorgeous woodwork throughout and interesting finds adorning every corner. We'd definitely stay again if heading back to the area!
This is a great play to stay! The room is spacious and the bathroom is wonderful. Rasheedah provides everything you could want, including snacks and breakfast items. It is well located for access to Forest Park and the Delmar Loop and only about a 15 minute drive from downtown. Well worth the price and your time to check it out.
Rasheeda was smiley and welcoming. Our room was spacious, very clean, had everything we needed and some unexpected extras - fridge stocked with water and drinks, a microwave and coffeemaker with excellent coffee provided, snacks and fresh fruit. Ms. Furqan's home is a handsome old house, lovingly cared for. On her street the homes were all older but well-maintained. Some of the surrounding streets resemble hers, others are neglected. We hope to stay with Rasheeda on our next visit to STL.

About the Host, Rasheedah
I hail from the Show Me State and am a proud lifelong resident of Saint Louis city. I love to travel internationally and domestically. I adore how diverse my city is and I explore its festivals, parks, and cultural sites as often as possible. I'm a sucker for any kind of ethnically diverse foods and can direct my guests to the best restaurants the city has to offer. I'm a novice knitter, an urban gardener, and most recently a chicken farmer. I'm a speech-language pathologist by trade, but who knows....if this urban garden of mine picks up perhaps I'll switch my occupation to Gardening Goddess!
