The Space

This little cabin with a loft is nestled in the Cherry Hill/ Capitol Hill of Seattle. The Cherry Hill House located in the Cherry Hill/ Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. Some people even call it Pill Hill because of its proximity to the hospitals (one of which is right across the street). But it is technically not Pill Hill, it is just south of Capitol Hill, by about a five minute bike ride or a 20 minute walk.

The loft space itself has a railing across the end of it and a ladder up to it, and once up there you have a queen size bed, a small nightstand, and fan and a lamp. You also have your own small refrigerator in the cabin, in addition to the full kitchen that is available in the main house. In the lower area right now we have a small sofa bed.

Linens, towels and blankets are provided, and there is an oil radiator for heat in the winter, which is plugged in downstairs. The heat rises and warms up the sleeping loft nicely, and in the summer the window and the fan make it a comfortable, private space, no matter the season.

Out the front door of the cabin are some little steps up to the back door and back deck. There is also a brick walkway that leads along side the house, connecting the front yard with the front door of the back cabin. In the front yard are the communal gardens, which are in progress all summer long, and paces away is the main house with a full kitchen and a bathroom with a claw foot tub. The kitchen has a big fridge, electric stove, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, cookware, dishes and flatware, an island with a sink and stools for bar seating, and a deck out back (with landscaping that is in progress during the summer months).

Due to our work schedules, the room will be ready by 3pm, but you can always leave your bags inside the main house in the entry way earlier if you like. Check out is by 11am.

Bear in mind, in the main house, there are two bedrooms.

Everyone shares the kitchen and bathroom with airbnb folks, so if any questions or issues come up and I am not around, Ryan is friendly and happy to help.

Of course, the kitchen and bathroom are used by these folks and the number of people who are around varies, especially since Ryan's work schedule has him at rehearsal or performances in the eveninigs, and airbnb folks usually come and go depending on the sights they want to see.

We have wifi throughout the premises, but it can be a little harder to get in the back cabin. You are welcome to use the main house to set up and access the internet, though, and we have a communal table in the entry way and an island in the kitchen with stools which both make for good internet surfing spots. We are right on the bus lines to Pioneer Square, Downtown, the University District, and the Eastside. Laundry available on site.

You won't find a better deal in this neighborhood for a private loft in a cabin, much less a totally separate space in a cabin.

Guest Access

Access to the back cabin and to the main house a few paces away where the kitchen and bathroom are located. The code to the door to the back cabin is 1471 and the code to the main house front door is 1231.

Interaction with Guests

It really depends on our work schedules. It can be very minimal, and sometimes we never even meet a guest, although sometimes we end up having dinner with them!

Other Things to Note

Here are the most pertinent details:

Arrival/ Check In
You are welcome to check in anytime after 2pm. It is likely one of us will be home when you arrive, but we have made it easy for you to let yourself in and make yourself at home, so don't work if you have a late check in! Just try to be quiet when you are in the main house, as others may be sleeping.

To get into the Back Cabin at the Cherry Hill House, here's the deal. As you approach the house, the gates will be open (we are in the process of fixing them). Come in and head to the far left of the stairs that go upstairs, and you will see a brick path that goes beside the house and back to the cabin.

To unlock and lock the front door of the Back Cabin you need to type in this code: 1471. You may need to pull on the door slightly, or press on it slightly to make the lock line up and engage when locking it.

To unlock and lock the front door of the main house you need to type in this code: 1231. Again, you may need to pull on the door slightly, or press on it slightly to make the lock line up and engage when locking it.

Do not lock by hand the bottom doorknob on any locks. We have taped them to not lock on the main house door so you don't lock yourself out!

Early Bag Drop Off/ Leaving Bags Later Than Check Out
You are welcome to drop your bags off earlier than 2pm, or leave them for a few hours after the 11am check out time. Just enter the main house and put your bags in the living room, off to the left. We have never had any trouble with theft to date. Our guests have been great to us all. :)

Departure/ Check Out
Please take a look at the check out list that is posted in your room, near your door. Please look over and complete the basic tasks on it prior to your departure. This helps Ryan and I enormously with turnover of the rooms between guests.

One last thing: BE SURE TO RETURN YOUR KEY TO THE SAME PLACE WHEN YOU LEAVE! THERE IS A $50 KEY REPLACEMENT FEE. This is because it is such a huge deal for us and the next guest when someone forgets. So please be mindful of this. :)

The Main House Kitchen
The Main House has a full kitchen with a big refrigerator, electric stove, coffee maker, microwave, cupboards, some cookware, plates, glasses, and utensils.

The Fridge
Of course, you are free to use the fridge and all of the amenities in the kitchen, but please LABEL YOUR FOOD WITH YOUR NAME AND THE DATE. If you do not label your food, you assume the risk of having your food thrown out accidentally, which is a bummer.

The Bathroom
The bathroom has a claw foot tub with shower, toilet, sink, and a stackable washer dryer. We also have a big hook rack be hid the door on the wall, if you want to hang up your towel in the bathroom.

The Laundry
Please note that the laundry machine is small, and you need to do small loads (about 50% of a normal load) to keep it in working order. Feel free to use it as you need to, but please bear in mind that we may be doing laundry between 11am and 2pm most days, when we turn rooms over between guests.

The Back Deck
Out the back door of the main house is the back deck, a nice reprieve from the buses driving by. Feel free to take a book back there and enjoy the quiet, and, in the summer, the lush greenery as we put in the landscaping. (I guess it is green in the winter also, but it is too wet out there to enjoy it.) Out back there is also a cabin. You can't miss it. Please be mindfull of noise out there if you are hanging out there late.

The Front Gardens
Out the front door of the main house is the area that we are developing to be our garden and barbecue area. Right now we have two raised beds, mostly made, and several potted plants scattered around. Please bear with us as things continue to progress. Thanks!

The Buses
As you may already know, we are conveniently located near many bus lines that go downtown and into the city. You will find they run both ways down Jefferson St. and stop in front of the Swedish Cherry Hill Hospital, between 16th and 17th Avenues. The buses that run to the University District run up and down 23rd Avenue, and stop at 23rd and Jefferson, five blocks east on Jefferson. To get to the University District, you need to cross 23rd to the stop on the east side of the street.

The Light Rail, To and From the Airport/ Train Station, etc.
The Light rail runs from the airport to and from downtown Seattle. The most convenient stop that connects the Cherry Hill House to the light rail is the Pioneer Square stop. From there you can take a cab straight up the hill to our house (about $5-10), or take the #3 or #4 bus to 17th and Jefferson, and walk one block east to 1811 East Jefferson Street, where we are located.

When leaving the house, if you are making your way to the airport, or downtown to the train station, as you leave the the house just cross the street and go to the bus stop located between 18th and 17th on Jefferson Street and take the # 3 or #4 but down to Pioneer square. Get off at the 3rd Avenue and James stop. The light rail links up with that pretty easily, although it comes in the bus tunnel, which is predictably underground. The signs are clearly marked, so it should be pretty easy.

Grocery Stores
We are located about several blocks from our local co-op, Madison Market, as well as Trader Joe's. Both are located at 17th and Madison, about eight blocks north of the Cherry Hill House. There is also a small local store, which is open most days and has a small selection of groceries and food items, located one block west at 17th and Jefferson. There is also a Starbucks inside the hospital, which is the big building kitty corner from the Cherry Hill House. Go inside any door and ask where the Starbucks is, it is not far and it is often the most convenient place to get coffee in the morning, if you don't make your own.

Ok, I think that covers it! Enjoy your stay and let us know if there is anything we can to do make your visit more pleasant.

Safe travels!
