About this listing
Hear the waves at night and welcome them on the roof deck in the morning. Enjoy coffee on the rooftop and wine and cheese as the sun sets. This is the perfect getaway from city life or to stop off between San Francisco and LA.
We live in beautiful Morro Bay, gateway to the picturesque highway 1. We are opening up our master suite on our second story. Step onto the balcony and enjoy the ocean or have breakfast up on the rooftop deck with a full ocean and rock view.
We are a great home base for those wanting a relaxing and rejuvenating break from the busyness of city life or for those driving historic scenic Highway 1. We are a short drive from Hearst Castle, Big Sur, spectacular Montana De Oro, the happiest city in the U.S--San Luis Obispo, and the sands of Pismo Beach (maybe you can find Bugs Bunny). Most think our area is only for surfing and walking the beach, but there are amazing cycling rides, challenging rock climbing sites, and lots of hiking trails with ethereal destinations with tidepools of multi-colored starfish and sea anemones.
For those of you who are foodies and wine connoisseurs, the drive from our home through some of the most beautiful wine country is phenomenal. You can go wine tasting or even visit one of the newer microbreweries in the area. One group used our home for three couples to go wine tasting and take a harbor wine cruise in the evening. You might consider getting one of the limousine companies to chauffeur you with all the rich wine you will want to taste.
Some will just want to stay home and enjoy the huge bed ;-), our large balcony and rooftop deck, or just enjoy the Morro Bay Embarcadero. The suite alone is 437 square feet of living space, but since much of the California lifestyle is based on enjoying the outside, add in the rooftop deck of 200 and the balcony of 120 square feet and you have over 750 square feet of liveable space. If you would like, we can blow up the air mattress for you or your kids to sleep under the stars on the roof. The rooftop is also a great space for entertaining. There is nothing like ending your wine tasting excursions by sharing a couple bottles with your friends (or your hosts :-)).
Private bathroom, TV (Netflix ONLY) and sitting room with futon for extra guest(s). Short drive to Cambria, Montana De Oro, San Luis Obispo, Hearst Castle, or stay here in town! We love to share our life here. Short walk to the beach or the bus stop. For more pictures of Morro Bay and surrounding areas visit Happiness House on that social media site everyone likes.
Due to city regulations, we have had to cease offering breakfast provided from Summer and our chickens (Latte, Queenie, Sweetie, Rocky, and Cheepers) who faithfully lay 4-5 eggs per day. We are hoping the city will reconsider in the future. There is a mini-bar area with coffee maker in the upstairs section. If you are coffee lovers like us, we have a rich roast, freshly ground and ready to be brewed to welcome your morning.
While our bathroom is small, it is big enough for a jacuzzi tub for relaxing at the end of your day. The little ones love to turn on the jets with some bubble bath to make Santa Claus bubble beards. Though small, you will always find it clean and comfortable. We all work very hard to take what we have and make it beautiful and tidy for our guests.
We are a small family who will work together to make your stay a pleasure. Faith-Marie cares for the chickens who provide the eggs, Summer (mom) makes our house a home, and Troy continues to do home improvement so your escape will get better on each return visit. Your stay helps fund our ongoing projects. Our other daughter, Gracie, just returned from a 6 month exchange in France. She is ready and willing to welcome our French speaking guests. Gracie is also our Airbnb house cleaner. All proceeds of your cleaning fee go directly to her. The parents do not skim anything off the top.
Bikers needing a place to crash on the way through are welcome or we have bikes and other toys that could help make your stay wonderful.
The whole house can also be rented for a family get-away. It can sleep 6-8 comfortably. The price for the entire house is $275 per night or $1,500 for the week.
Remember, this is our family's home. While we want to be gracious and inviting, we only want guests who are going to treat our house as we would. So far, we have found the Airbnb folks are the right type of people! What we notice about most Airbnb guests is that they value being a part of the sharing community. When we visit other Airbnb hosts, we find that we get a great deal, stay in interesting places, and meet genuine people. This is what we hope to offer those who come to Morro Bay.
You have access to our master suite including a den with TV (Netflix ONLY) and a futon, the master bedroom, coffee maker, and bathroom with a tub. Best of all, you get our rooftop deck for sunset and sunrise looking out to the Pacific Ocean.
Interaction with Guests
We love interacting with guests but also honor your limits. It is up to you. The master bedroom is private, but the den is at the top of stairs with no door. If you wish to have a completely private suite, this space is nearly that, but not quite. Most people find the space very accommodating, but a very few have wished for more privacy.
We are 1/4 mile walking distance from the beach and a 3 mile walk or run to Morro Rock. We are on the east side of Highway 1, but still have a great view of the Pacific Ocean and Morro Rock. Most visitors find our home very convenient for trips between SF and LA.
We do have a city bus, but most either walk, run or drive into town (2 miles).
Other Things to Note
We are constantly looking for ways to improve our visitors' stays. Lisa, our sweet friend, does our housekeeping and works to keep the space spotless.
We don't have many rules other than take care of our stuff. If you must smoke, do it on the roof, not in the house. Summer has allergies so smoke and cats so neither are allowed inside.
Most of all, enjoy the Central Coast lifestyle--drink a glass of wine, visit our local coffee shops, take a hike, go to one of our many farmers' markets, walk along the beach, and say hello to our neighbors.
