About this listing
Charming private duplex space within my home, consisting of 2 Bedrooms (each with queen bed), 1 1/2 bath, living room and kitchen. Private entrance, wide-board floors, fully furnished. Entry level has living room (please note the fireplace is not available to guests due to liability), kitchen, 1/2 bath and one bedroom; second floor has one bedroom and a full bathroom). The bedrooms have air conditioning.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE $185 RATE is for the use of one bedroom in the duplex space (generally two people in one bedroom) and of course the rest of the duplex space. If the second bedroom is to be used, the extra person rate of $40 per night is added to the nightly rate. (If you have any questions about this don't hesitate to ask.)
Communal space includes pool, decks, and garden area overlooking the Hudson River. Wifi and cable TV. Seasonal views of the Hudson River.
Malden-on-Hudson is a peaceful, sweet hamlet 100 miles north of NYC, along the Hudson River. There is a public dock and boat launch within walking distance of the house.(Bring your kayaks!) The morning sun on the river and the moon glow at night is quite special. The nearest village is Saugerties (1.3 miles), a typical Hudson Valley village with good restaurants, shops, book stores, a farmers market, movie theatre, etc. We are near the Saugerties lighthouse - it's an easy hike out to the lighthouse - a perfect spot for a picnic on a hot summer day. Sailing - I advise booking in advance of your stay (Tivoli Sailing is in Saugerties; Hudson Sailing and Ophira Sailing are out of Kingston).
Woodstock (9 miles), Rhinebeck, Hudson, Tivoli, Bard College Fischer Center/Summerscape, and Olana are all within easy driving distance. Also close to many areas of natural beauty including Kaaterskill Falls, Hunter Mountain, Mohonk Mountain House, and an abundance of hiking trails.
Just minutes to HITS on the Hudson - an olympic level horse jumping venue which runs 6 weeks in the summer.
**** The pool is generally open by Memorial Day however it is not a heated pool so swimming is weather-dependent and out of my control.
A cleaning fee and deposit will be added for weekly or longer rentals. Sorry, no pets and no small children - there are simply too many steps in and around the property. Please note that there is a cat in the main part of the house but she does not go into the separate duplex space.
Guests have access to the common space in the back garden, the pool, the decks, the outside table under the pergola for al fresco dining, and the lounge chairs and hammock in the back garden overlooking the Hudson River. This area is on the upper level of the property and guests reach it via outside steps.
Interaction with Guests
I love meeting our guests and enjoy interacting and assisting them. If it is privacy they desire, however, that's fine too.
There is no public transportation.
You may park along the side of the house on the road or at the bottom of the driveway.
Please read the instruction booklet when you arrive. Please treat my home as you would your own and enjoy your time in this beautiful part of New York State.
Fabulous house and fabulous hostess! Staying at Gilda's was like staying with family (without any strings attached!)There was a bottle of wine and designer chocolates to welcome us; Gilda gave us a tour of our part of the house; showed us the coffee and quick breakfast snacks (waffles, cream for the coffee, etc) for the early risers; and showed us the list of instructions for the house and area that she had typed up (restaurants, sights, walks, entertainment). She made us feel entirely welcome before leaving us on our own.
The house is beautiful; built in 1820. Our part was a very large 2 bedroom, living, room, large eat-in kitchen (with sitting area), 1-1/2 bath duplex attached to the main house. Completely well-stocked and beautifully furnished. The linens were overly ample and very nice; we didn't cook, but the kitchen seemed to have everything anyone would need to make a lovely meal. We had dismal weather, so we didn't have a chance to enjoy the pool or beautiful deck (under a grape arbor) that over-looked the Hudson.
We played games in the comfortable kitchen (since we couldn't go out) before driving to Bearsville for dinner and a wonderful concert (the Mike and Ruthie Band and lots of friends!) Woodstock, long a center for amazing musicians, has a new generation of incredible talent! Come and enjoy! Bella Vista in Saugerties and music in Woodstock can't be beat!!
Gilda's place was really cozy and homely. It's decorated with family photos and eclectic objects. Loved the bookcase in the living room and the leather couches were really comfortable. The rooms are quite spacious and can easily accommodate 2 couples. It's reasonably clean and has all amenities that you would need for a stay. The beds were very comfortable as well.
The guest area is a section of the main house with a separate entrance. There is a door upstairs that separates the guest section from the rest of the house. Note that the view in the photos is not from the guest area of the house but from the main garden. The garden was beautiful and the view over the Hudson was really amazing in the morning.
It's a 5 minute drive from Saugerties that has a few restaurants and shops.
I met Gilda briefly and she seemed very nice. She was very responsive to all communication prior to our stay.
The host canceled this reservation 9 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Gilda was very prompt in her response and was kind enough to share activies and places to go around the area. The house was cozy and clean. It would have been nice to have it connected directly to the deck/patio as that area is very pleasant!
Gilda was incredibly welcoming! The house is lovely, warm and fully equipped for a fun vacation with friends. The view from the back yard is breathtaking, sitting outside by the fire enjoying the river was one of our peak moments. Gilda went out of her way to make sure we have a pleasant stay.
A beautiful location in a quiet neighbourhood overlooking the Hudson River with more than ample space, a nice gas fireplace, cozy furniture, great water pressure and temperature and a full kitchen. Easy road access to the Thruway (a few miles) and State Highway 9 series with some local hiking options (on the River and a Nature Preserve). The view over the river is quite stunning with a great sitting area outside. The area is very quiet, residential and fairly close to the main village area and a good grocery store and a bunch of bookstores. The space contains 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms including a set on the ground floor and a set on the 2nd floor upstairs. Part of the house is built in 1820 and that old charm is found within the space (large fireplace, great wood floors, rich interior decor and colour. Gilda was very helpful and responsive - richly shared the area information and was very easy and efficient to book with and transact with - a delightful host.
I would easily stay there again in any season of the year.
Gilda's home was perfect for a quick, last minute weekend getaway! Beautiful snowy views of the river, lots of privacy, and the house was more than enough room for the three of us. Not to mention the fireplace was an amazing plus to come home to after a day of cross country skiing. Will definitely be my go-to spot the next time I visit the Catskills!
