About this listing

The Lodge is an old renovated farm house built in 1890. It is available on a nightly rental basis with a well equipped kitchen having an antique electric stove as well as an old operational wood burning cook stove. Refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot are also present.

The space

Step back in time to a more relaxed era. Please keep in mind BEFORE booking that the structure was built in 1890 making it 125 years old. It IS NOT the Marriott! Instead it is a unique clean lodging experience that I am proud to offer. The vast majority of our guests LOVE the place and give us very high marks. A few disappointed guests don't like it at all and consequently give us low marks. If you want to stay in something comparable to the Marriott, then please do us all a favor and don't book with us.
The Lodge will accommodate several people in a home place style, decorated with Grandma's memories. When booking a stay at The Lodge please be aware that there is NO central heat. A wood burning heater is located in the downstairs bedroom along with baseboard heating. Electric space heaters are located throughout. Gas logs are installed in the fireplace. A wall mounted propane heater is installed as well.

Centrally located to numerous day trip destinations, we are about 6 miles north of the Appalachian Trail crossing on Hwy 60 and about 9 miles south of the Swinging Bridge on the Toccoa River. A popular destination for day-hikers, Benton MacKaye Trail through hikers, and paddlers making the journey down the Toccoa River Canoe Trail . This 270 foot long bridge is the longest swinging bridge east of the Mississippi. It was built by the USDA Forest Service in cooperation with the Appalachian Trail Club in 1977, when extension of the Blue Ridge Parkway to Kennesaw Mountain was under consideration. A local fly fishing guide is available with advance notice and reservation...

The serenity and breath taking views abound. You can leave your troubles behind and enjoy nature as it was intended.

It should be noted that not all cell carriers work in this area. Verizon DOES work very well whereas Sprint DOES NOT work at all. Unsure about other carriers.
The best trout fishing in Georgia exists within 6 miles of The Lodge including Coopers Creek, Rock Creek, & the Toccoa River.

Second time staying. Peaceful and quiet and close to great hiking. Also a fun place to drive if you don't mind curvy roads

Always a great stay. Joni goes out of her way to give you unique extras (local dining/activity suggestions) as well as assistance in making the most of your stay. She always goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need (directions/wifi passcodes, etc). Looking forward to staying again soon!

We had such a wonderful time at this house. It was everything we could have hoped for and more -- unique, clean, and so comfortable. The shower is incredible! We had a couple of great meals at the Wildcat Cafe. Yes, the home is on a campground of sorts and I imagine on a crowded weekend we might have had a much less relaxing and private experience. But, we got lucky and are so happy that we came and hope Joni will rent to us again in the future. If you're the type who gets carsick I would suggest taking some medicine before the twisty drive in, also, maybe skip Delonegah and follow Joni's suggestions for good places to eat.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Lodge. The description was very accurate - it's a rustic experience that we found welcoming, cozy, and relaxing. The Lodge had everything we needed - even though the a little older, everything functioned properly and was clean. Plenty of space for a couple, and even though we didn't use it, the upstairs loft would be awesome for kids. There was a nice outside porch, we enjoyed the fireflies in the evening with a cup of coffee, that had plenty of rocking chairs and patio furniture. Joni was incredibly responsive and super to work with. We highly recommend The Lodge for a rustic mountain vacation or getaway.

This was a fun place to stay. Enduring was as described. I love older houses and this one is beautiful inside with an epic bathroom! The location is near many hiking trails and places where you can rent a tube or kayak. There is also a campground nearby but it did not take away from experience. I would love to return in the future.

The Lodge was just as described. I was looking to get away for a few days, unplug, and enjoy the outdoors and this place was perfect. Joni was there when I checked in and made sure I had everything I needed and even gave me some tips on places to hike and fish. I will be back. If you are looking for a great place at a great price to relax for a little while this is it.

Overall, our time in Suches was great. It was a wonderfully rustic home, perhaps even slightly more rustic than Expected. It was just my girlfriend and I on our trip, so it may be that we would have gotten this feeling anywhere we went, but it did get creepy at night. I believe there was a kitten living in the attic so there were a lot of noises at night and it didn't help that none of the many windows locked. I may have just watched too many scary movies, but the upstairs seemed like the perfect setting for a Paranormal Activity. However, we survived without any possession or demon child encpunters... The home had everything that we would need and is located very close to some great sightseeing adventures! I would rrcommend the nearby waterfalls and of course the Appalachian Trail. But you should also consider visiting one of many nearby wineries. That made for a great afternoon. Our biggest gripe was that it isn't nearly as secluded as expected. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding on my part, but it was not the secluded cabin on the prairie that I had imagined. The cabin is actually located on a campground with RV parking spots, other cabins, and primitive campsites very close by. There is actually another cabin being built only a few feet away from this home. There were workers there intermittently throughout our staying working on the new cabin. They were noisy at times. With that being said, it was a great stay, a wonderful experience, and we enjoyed the large fields out front to play in... my puppy had a blast! I'm not sure if I would return to this particular cabin, but Suches is amazing and this home is an affordable and easy way to experience the area.
