Interaction with Guests
Very little. We greet the guests and answer any questions that they may have. Give suggestions when asked.
The neighborhood is quiet and safe. The neighbor does have chicken and you will hear his rooster crowing from time to tim.
No public transporation in Charleston. We live on an island adjacent to the city of Charleston. We leave cab company phone numbers for your use. We suggest that if you bring bicycles, drive and then ride. Charleston does have bike lanes , but not in the neighborhoods.
We would prefer check-in between 4pm - 6pm, but if you are coming in late, we can make arrangements to get you a key. Check-out is 10 am.
We have two kayaks that can be used for kayaking in the tidal creek/marsh, but LIFE JACKETS MUST be worn and the tides must be observed as once the tide goes out, you can't get back to the dock until the tide comes back up.
A picnic basket, with beach towels are provided, but we ask that they are left when you get ready to leave. And, if you use the bottles inside the beach basket, please clean them.
Breakfast will be served on Saturday and Sunday mornings only between 8:30 & 9am. Should you make other arrangements and go out, please let us know. Some folks choose to sleep in or go into the city for breakfast.
The location was fantastic and the hospitality was great. Sherry and Milton are great hosts. The breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday were really tasty. The suggestions they gave were spot on awesome.
Sherry and Milton were wonderful hosts! The location was very convenient. We visited on one of the coldest weekends of the winter in Charleston, and still had a blast! The apartment has everything you need, and some nice touches including snacks, etc. The breakfast provided was out of this world delicious!
We had a great stay during our visit to Charleston! We enjoyed the quiet location on James Island tidal creek--away from the hustle-bustle of downtown Charleston. The hosts were polite, flexible (we arrived a little later than expected), and friendly. The apartment space was comfortable, and we appreciated having a living area with kitchenette separate from the bedroom. This was especially nice since we brought our 19-month-old along for the trip! Our hot breakfast on Saturday morning was a particular treat. We would love to come back and stay here again!
Sherry and her husband were very accommodating and communicative when our plane was delayed and our arrival time was pushed back. They gave clear instructions on how to get into their space late at night and an automatic light even turned on to light our way.
The space was clean and large with space to chill. The neighborhood was suburban with backyards opening to beautiful marshes. A very easy drive to the city. A VERY VERY tasty blueberry pancake breakfast was provided!!
This was a wonderful place to stay! It is about 20 minutes away from the downtown area in a quiet neighborhood. It is a nice distance from the city, and you certainly couldn't find a comparable hotel for this price with all the same amenities and lovely atmosphere. The apartment looks just like the pictures, including the beautiful back yard. And it was SPOTLESS! There were many thoughtful touches- travel mugs for coffee, orange juice and milk in the fridge, lots of extra towels. The apartment has everything you could need. The bed was very comfortable, especially for my husband who sometimes has back trouble. The tub is also very big and deep for those who like to relax in the bath. As previous reviewers have stated, the spiral staircase is a bit daunting, but we got used to it pretty quickly. We corresponded here and there via text throughout the stay, which worked well for us, as we were on the go most of the time. Sherry or Milton always responded quickly. I would definitely recommend staying here! Milton recommended a BBQ place right down the road (Smoky Oak I think?) and we didn't have a chance to go there. We did order pizza from a local place called Paisano's one night and it was excellent. We were here celebrating our 10th anniversary, and would definitely come back again!
The Herring’s apartment is a good alternative to a pricey stay in downtown Charleston. As emphasized by previous reviewers: the hosts are helpful, the weekend breakfasts are good, the place is immaculate, the bed is very comfortable, the dock overlooking the march is peaceful and scenic and the drive to downtown Charleston is easy.
The marsh at their dock is almost dry at low tide. Due to tidal limitations, it is really only navigable by Kayak for about an hour before and after high tide. The apartment is, in effect, an attic, and thus despite the excellent appointments is not a place you’d likely lounge around during the day.
Just a quick response here. Actually those that want to kayak, there is water in the creek about 6 hours and you can get to the harbor and back in plenty of time, should you want to spend some time on the water. The high tide changes everyday, so you have to preplan so you don't get caught out on the water. Stephen, we left the kayaks out at your request, and you never took advantage of them.
The apartment is the second floor of a very large home, with its own entrance, and not an attic. You have a very nice leather loveseat to sit in and watch TV, kitchen with table and 2 chair, stove, (email hidden)d why do you want to lounge around an apartment all day if you came to visit a beautiful city like Charleston.
Sherry and Milton both made us feel very welcomed. The property was as beautiful and comfortable as the pictures relayed. I particularly enjoyed the wildlife in the early morning on the pier. The location was excellent, private and relaxed but easy access to downtown and beaches. This was our first reservation with airbnb and it was so positive that airbnb will be our first option for lodging on any future vacations.
