A semi-private room in a cute and cozy shotgun house in the Marigny-Bywater, one of the best spots in New Orleans. 10 minutes from the French Quarter, 2 minutes from the Bywater, around the corner from great restaurants, bars, coffee shops and more.
Please read on so you know what our home is like:
About the House/Your Room:
The house is a classic shotgun, a very common style of architecture for homes here in New Orleans. Each room is arranged one behind the other. You will be walking through all of our bedrooms to get to your room, and while you'll have your room to yourself, people will need to walk through it to access the kitchen, other bedrooms, backyard, and bathroom.
Your room is the third room in the house. It comes furnished with a twin size bed, an empty dresser for your clothing, two chairs, clean sheets, fresh blankets, two pillows, and towels. The room accommodates one comfortably, two with an air mattress on the floor (or a couple could share the twin size bed). There is no door separating this room from the fourth room (but we do have a cute curtain up!)
Location and Neighborhood:
Our location is probably our greatest feature! Our house is centrally located in the very unique Marigny neighborhood. The Frenchmen St. jazz and music clubs are only six blocks away, the French Quarter is a ten minute, nine-block walk away, and the Bywater neighborhood (full of artists and musicians, interesting shops, restaurants, and general New Orleans weirdness) is just over the train tracks, two blocks away.
We are one block from the 24 hour organic grocery store, and three blocks from the 24 hour convenience store (where you can stock up on alcohol and fried chicken). The always wonderful Flora's Coffee shop is two blocks away where you can get your coffee fix. There are five bars within a three block radius, including Mimi's where you can hear live jazz during most week nights.
The house has six rooms including a bathroom with a clawfoot bathtub, and a large, brand new kitchen equipped with: a dishwasher, double sink, refrigerator, large island for eating/food prep/hanging out, and is well stocked with all the pots, pans, and cooking utensils you'll need to make a nice meal at home. You are welcome to use our washer and dryer, located in the kitchen.
Q: Do you have wifi
A: YES! Airbnb should send you our wifi handle and password after you confirm the booking. If not, we've got it written down in the house.
Q: Is there free parking on the street?
A: Yes, parking in the Marigny is free. You can often nab a spot right around the corner, if not right out front.
Q: Is it safe to walk to and from the French Quarter at (email hidden) never had a problem with it, at 3pm, at 9pm, at 5am, etc. Walk with confidence and I can't imagine anyone will bother you. Walking with your DSLR hanging off your shoulder at 12am probably isn't a smart move, but that'd be true in any city.
Matthijs and I are two friendly, open-minded, creative folks looking to provide an affordable, clean, and comfortable space for travelers in one of the best neighborhoods in this great city. We are happy to help you plan an itinerary for your days if you tell us what you're interested in seeing. Our household is fluent in English and Dutch.
We love hanging out with guests who want to hangout. We love leaving guests alone who want to be left alone. If you want to go out on the town with us, let us know and if we're not staying in for the night we'll definitely join you. If you'd like to share a home-cooked meal, we are down! Our favorite part of Airbnb is the making friends part.
We have a chihuahua named Mister who will slowly but surely become your new best friend. We often have guests over for meals, and there are always friends coming and going. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.
Public Transportation and Cabs:
If arriving in New Orleans via the airport, your quickest option would be to catch a cab. There are taxis waiting just for you outside the airport. According to United Cabs website: Airport rates are as follows: 1 or 2 passengers for only $33.00. 3 or more passengers is only $14.00 per passenger.
Cab rides from our house are just a phone call away. We recommend United Cab: (phone number hidden) or (phone number hidden). You can catch a cab to our house pretty quickly from anywhere in the French Quarter or make a call to have them pick you up.
The Marigny-Bywater #5 busline runs past the house towards the Bywater. One block over it runs towards the French Quarter and will take you as far as Canal at St. Peters. There are bus schedules in the top drawer of dresser in the second room. The #88 busline also runs a few blocks away and takes you a bit farther down Canal.
Although the bus stop is just around the corner, we always encourage our guests to walk everywhere. You'll see more and meet more friendly folks just by walking.
Great place! The room was so cozy and welcoming.
Katie and Matthijs were super friendly and gave us great ideas for places to go for food and what not. Will definitely be staying here on my next trip to New Orleans!
Katie & Matthijs were as amazing as New Orleans itself. They were able to let me book last minute, & I arrived to find a clean, well kept house perfectly suited to get some r&r on my trip. The location is perfect for those visiting the city for the first time, or someone who knows the city quite well like myself. The amenities ( free WIFI, washer & dryer, and oversized bathtub) are what you would expect to find in a room or hotel that would cost over $200.00 a night. The hospitality was second to none and whenever I visit NOLA again, this incredible gem in the Marigny is one of my first choices in where I will lay my head each night. This was my first booking on airbnb & I feel like this experience set the bar for what I will give my guests when they visit & stay with me, and also what I should expect from other hosts throughout my travels. With Katie & Matthijs, I feel like not only did I find a suitable place, I felt like I met some new friends who love to travel as much as I do.
I loved it. It was my first Airbnb experience and definitely not my last. Katie was really friendly and gave me advice on all the nice places in New Orleans. And although it was Mardi Gras it was not loud at all during the night. Next time when I visit NOLA I would book again the same room.
Thank you Katie & Matthijs
Katie was nice and laid back.
Katie & Matthijs were super chill, friendly and laid back. They were hospitable and we're very welcoming. If you want to experience real local New Orleans culture, hang with them.
Great place in a great neighborhood. It's not far from Frenchmen and the Quarter, but even better it's just down the street from tons of cool stuff in the Marigny and Bywater. Katie and Matthijs were super helpful—they even tuned up a spare bike for me to use during my stay. And the shotgun layout was no problem, I brought earplugs just in case but didn't even need them. I'll definitely be recommending this spot to any friends headed to New Orleans!
The stay with Katie and Matthijs was very good. Both of them were very courteous and gave me the feeling that their home was really my home to for the duration of my stay. The house was clean and very well situated. Although it is a shotgun-appartment I never felt disturbed in my privacy. Both of them gave me the feeling I was a New Orleans-girl. I would highly recommend this room to anyone planning on visiting New Orleans.
I stayed at Katie and Matthijs' place for one night and can definitvely recommend it. Excellent location in walking distance from the French Quarter and great value. Both Katie and Matthijs were super friendly; they even had switched on an extra heater before my arrival as it was unusally cold in New Orleans that day. The "shotgun" layout of the house was no problem at all and I slept very well and undisturbed.
My first airbnb experience was here, and I was impressed by my hosts kindness. I had a great stay. thank you. <3
Katie was very welcoming and shared lots of recommendations about what to do in New Orleans. The setup was as described, which worked well for me. The Marigny area is lovely in itself and provides easy access to the jazz clubs on Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter.
