Marie was wonderfully welcoming and a great host.
The house is easy to get to with public transport. The room is comfortable and warm.
Will definitely stay here again when I need a room in London.
I had a great stay near portobello road, (stayed for a long weekend of 4 nights)
Marie is a fantastic host, who makes you feel very welcome from the get-go, room is great (I stayed in the single room), and it is located in an upcomming area of London, where you can find restaurants and bars in close proximity (5 min walk)
Marie was a wonderful host. She was knowledgeable about the area and had many great recommendations. The neighborhood was very nice and interesting and was an easy commute to other areas of town. I would highly recommend staying at Marie's to anyone visiting London.
The location is safe, clean, and luckily for me away from the city of London (The true center) - one of the reasons I picked this place, and the 2nd being affordable. The building is an old brick town house, and I like brick. The room gets a lot of light, however, isn't very airy, though you could leave the door open. The room was tiniest I have stayed in most of my Europe and Asia Travels, however, it was manageable for a solo traveler. The room, however, was very, very cold even for the cooler April month. Marie had given me a space heater, and having some expertise here, I recommend she get a ceramic space heater versus the toaster-rod like space heater.
The location is easily commutable by the tube or the bus. By the Tube getting to Maires place will require to transfer and in the London Tube almost no place has an escalator or an elevator (lift) - this is especially true if you are coming in from Victoria station. However, going towards Victoria, only requires one to carry the baggage through only one series of stairs downwards from the Westbourne Station, after that the station transfer is on the same platform, and then up again the stairs at the ancient Victoria Tube Station.
Marie as a host is quite lively, and her friends and I enjoyed drinking wine every other night together and just chatting up a storm. She was also a darling having my breakfast plates, forks, all setup, and I had good access to the kitchen, and she has a lovely back-yard/garden.
This area is more of an exception, and very interesting compared to the other more "Proper" neighborhoods of the other many London areas (excluding east London).
I recommend this room to anyone, especially a solo traveler, and I also recommend the 2nd room she rents out to solo or couples for short stays only. Just be ware of the (damp) cold. Also, these are basement apartment/rooms.
I could possibly stay here (for a short stay) again if I were in London and it would be mostly for the neighborhood.
She also has a lovely cat Charlie. And Charlie is a very cool cat, and I am very selective about cats! I think I liked Charlie more than Marie ;)
Marie is incredibly nice lady! I had a great time in her house! The neighborhood is fancy, and it's close to great shops and restaurants.
The room was warm and cozy, and Marie was nice enough to make me feel at home during my stay. She was very helpful from the start. I would definitely come back to her place, when I am going to London.
Really cozy, welcoming, and clean home. Marie is very sweet and helpful, upon arriving she make me a cup of tea and some biscuts. Lovely. Portobello market is a fun a hip area, lots of good food around. Perfect place to stay! Wish my trip could have been longer.
