Welcome to your retreat to awe and wonder evoked by beautiful views and the great memories you'll create here! The radio show On Being, aired an interview with Esther Sternberg called "The Science of HEALING PLACES." In it, Esther Sternberg, an immunologist and pioneer in the field of environmental psychology, related her excitement about discovering that there are measurable physiological and neuroscientific bases to the feeling of AWE and WONDER evoked by BEAUTIFUL VIEWS or by places that trigger GOOD MEMORIES. "I firmly believe from what I have seen that this is the chosen spot of all the earth as far as nature is concerned," horticulturist Luther Burbank said of Sonoma County.
About 75 miles north of San Francisco lies the Russian River Valley, which was nominated as one of the Wine Regions of the Year by Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2011. In the heart of beautiful coastal Sonoma County Wine Country you’ll find The Sunrise Mountain Guest House Studio encircled by sun, stars, moon and massive redwoods.
“Few wine regions evoke more vivid impressions of great wine, stunning landscapes and friendly people than the Russian River Valley. World-class Zinfandels and Petite Sirahs abound, often from gnarled, centenarian vineyards. Rhône varieties, both red and white, as well as great Chardonnays join the valley’s crown jewel: Pinot Noir, now coming off a stellar string of vintages” (Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2011).

This is a lovely studio cottage in the woods. It's a perfect getaway -- we really loved the views, and of course repeated visits to the hot tub! Dr.Joe was extremely welcoming. We really were quite amazed with how much thought he has put into making this place cozy and comfortable, with anything you might need. We had a lovely time!
Keep in mind that ATT service is very limited in the whole valley, so you'll go unplugged (although there is strong internet). Also, not having a fully working kitchen did change the style of our vacation. There is a full-sized fridge and grill, toaster and microwave -- probably all that you need, but we didn't plan for it right. We were happy to visit all the local restaurants and bakeries anyway =)
Loved this place! It was beautiful & peaceful & conveniently located. I agree with all the positive things the other reviewers said. Dr. Joe is also a great host. My favorite things about this place were: the view, the deck, the hot tub, & the shower since the walls are transparent (only one way) & you get an amazing view, it feels like an outdoor shower.
Very, very well run. Got a complete tour of the cabin as soon as we arrived, thoughtful necessities are provided, the place is very, very clean, the deck is spectacular, wonderful clean hot tub which is private, great fews and fresh air abound.
Based on correspondence with Dr. Joe beforehand, he added personal touches to the room just for us. The studio was adorable and perfect for a weekend away.
We had such an amazing trip! Everything you see on the pictures and details is exactly what you get; there are absolutely no surprises when you arrive. Top of the line amenities and very luxurious private escape! The view from the hot tub is spectacular, luckily we had a clear night and saw many shooting stars! RevDrJoe is very gracious and met with us upon arrival to show us around his beautiful place. He sends you over ahead of time helpful information on things to do in the area and everything is very detailed, so that you can plan ahead of time for a fun vacation! We couldn't have asked for a better getaway of pure relaxation from the busy city life and without a doubt we'll be back to this little slice of heaven!
We had a great weekend at the Sunrise Mountain Studio. Dr. Joe was a very helpful and gracious host. The studio itself was fantastic! So private and cozy! The no cooking in the kitchen rule was totally warranted: it's very small and all on one circuit! That being said, Dr. Joe had so many restaurant recommendations, and there is so much to do in the area, that cooking never even crossed my mind!
The hot tub is great, and even though it poured every night we were there, we still very much enjoyed our evening dips! We will definitely be returning!
Our time at the Sunrise Studio was incredible. Dr Joe is a terrific host and really goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. Gorgeous scenery and a comfy space to decompress for a weekend.
