COMFORT, LOCATION, and CHARM!

Apartment - Private room · Montana Street, Oakland, CA 94602, United States

The Space

Situated in Oakland’s friendly Dimond neighborhood, this cozy, cute, and clean guest room (10’6” x 10’3”) is a short walk to Peet’s Coffee and Tea, La Farine (Best Bakery 2013), CVS pharmacy, Safeway, Farmer Joe's (wonderful market for fresh organic veg and specialty groceries), public library, post office, family-owned restaurants, parks, major banks, and bus lines.

Bathed in California sun, the guest room has a firm double bed sporting a brand new gel-foam topper, luxury linens, duvet, a pile of pillows, and is perfect for one or a couple who like one another! Egyptian cotton towels are waiting after your bath or shower (where you will find shower gel and shampoo). You have broadband Internet, a little desk and closet and access to the entire apartment.

A 900’, 2nd floor (walk-up) condo in a 4-unit building, there is designated off-street parking, a fully equipped kitchen where you are welcome to cook (gas range with convection oven, microwave, toaster, fridge with filtered water/ice dispenser, and dishwasher), a high efficiency washer and dryer located in the apartment, central heat, and a fan for warm days. I have a few modern conveniences that you are welcome to use: blow-drier, iron and ironing board, an infuriatingly accurate digital scale, but I do not have a television. The apartment is furnished simply (and somewhat eclectically), and it is super clean and tidy. The bath, kitchen, and living areas are shared with my tiny, well-behaved pup, Angel and me. (I’m pretty well behaved too).

Several decades of extensive world travels inform the standards I extend to my guests. Every effort has been made to offer an affordable, comfortable, and enjoyable experience. A San Francisco native, I thoroughly enjoy hosting, am happy to help you with directions, insider tips and suggestions, and any thing else you may need during your stay.

(Literally) a stone’s throw from the 580 freeway which takes you to nearby Lake Merritt, Downtown Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco, you couldn't ask for a more convenient home base from which to explore all the Bay Area has to offer. From your parking spot on the property, you can hop on the freeway to Silicon Valley, towards the beautiful Coast, San Francisco, Berkeley, Napa, and points beyond, in moments. ***Please note: since my building is so close to the freeway you can hear the sound of it from the apartment – locals pretend it’s the sound of the ocean as we drift off to sleep, but if you are a light sleeper or sensitive to ambient noise it might not be the place for you.***

Are you going
to SAN FRANCISCO?
by AUTO: San Francisco is about 15 miles/20 minutes from here - during peak commute times, it will be longer. There is a toll for crossing the Bay Bridge to San Francisco (M - F: $6- during commuter hours, $5- all other times) and the return to Oakland is free.
by PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: The East Bay has good public transportation (AC Transit and BART) and the apartment is a 2-minute walk to major bus lines. BART is a short bus ride away and includes the Fruitvale, Lake Merritt, and Downtown Oakland BART stations within a few stops. You can take BART to various destinations in the Bay Area. To downtown SF the trip is easy ~ you take the "NL" or "NX" bus directly in to SF, it's $4.20/each and an express ride.
to SILCON VALLEY:
The Silicon Valley area is about 45 - 50 minutes by car. (During traditional commute hours it can / will be more). By public transport it's a bit of a haul and can take in the area of 1 1/2 hours each way.

MISC:
Check-in and check-out times may be flexible depending on my booking schedule, so feel free to ask if I can accommodate you for an early arrival or late departure.

Although not a parent, I do enjoy other people’s well-behaved children and have taken several precautions to “child-proof” the apartment. Travelers with young ones are welcome, but must be fully responsible for children at all times. Please discuss with me in advance of booking to make certain I can properly accommodate you.

Please conduct yourself as you would in your own home - courteous of neighbors, considerate of after-hours noise and such...this isn't the place to have your party, it's where you come to recuperate after the party :-)

There is a design station in a portion of the living room where I work and you might find me there as you come and go, but I respect privacy and keep a low profile.

I am a "mature" woman with an eternally youthful spirit, a freethinker, quiet, friendly, and reasonable, and want to help make your time here as comfortable as possible.

  • Olga is a great host and her apartment is in a great location and has a nice and laid back vibe to it- perfect for my stay. Very much recommended. Thanks

  • Olga is a great host. She made me feel very welcome and she has a very well laid out place. Her kitchen is awesome and everything is laid out in way which is efficient and aesthetically very pleasing. It goes to show that she is truly a designer. The room itself was small but very nicely laid out and furnished. The closet and bathroom was super clean and nice. Even having a high efficiency washer dryer was very convenient.
The only issue I had was the sound from the highway. It was really bad the first night and a little better the night after. I guess its completely dependent on the traffic. I am usually not bothered by most ambient noise but it was higher than just ambient.

Apart from that, it was a very pleasurable stay.

  • It was my first experience with AirBnB, so I was not sure what to expect.

But Olga was such a kind and accommodating person that I really enjoyed my time at her place.

The room and the bathroom are super clean and it really felt like HOME!!

I would HIGHLY recommend Olga's for everybody who wants to have a HOME experience during traveling.

  • This is the second occasion we have spent time with Olga and after spending Christmas with her and Angel we were looking forward to seeing in the New Year with them as well.
There is a plaque on the wall in the room Olga lets which says "Sow Kindness Gather Love". This saying epitomises the attitude Olga displays towards her Airbnb guests.
We are honoured to say that we have found a lifelong friend in Olga and cannot recommend staying at her home highly enough.

  • What can we say about Olga?
Right from the outset Olga went out of her way to make us feel welcome and comfortable in her lovely home.
Her little pup Angel is a treasure and a real character.
We were fortunate to share Christmas with Olga and it was a great time of eating, drinking, laughing and sharing Christmas customs.
Olgas home is located close to shops and the bus service that easily takes you into central San Francisco. We now count Olga and Angel as strong and lasting Airbnb friends..You only need to read the other reviews of this extraordinary person and unreservedly recommend her to all Airbnb travellers.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Olga's during our visit to Oakland over the Thanksgiving weekend. Her place was clean, calm, and comfortable! The smell of fresh coffee woke us and an assortment of fresh berries, yogurt and granola was laid out for us in the kitchen. While we spent most of the time at by brother's place, I felt nurtured and welcomed by Olga's generous spirit. The perfect airbnb experience!

  • My first experience with Olga Gerrard was wonderful.
Olga was very thoughtful and considerate wanting to serve, but respecting my space.

She went way beyond the call of duty by providing a wonderful breakfast of fruits and berries and granola.

The home was immaculately clean and very neat and very well cared for.

Olga is a beautiful person who is really caring and loving. I would recommend her highly.

    Sincerely,

  • WOW! My boyfriend and I could not have asked for a better experience with Olga. She is such a genuinely sweet lady! So easy to talk to, had great recommendations and made us feel so at home.
Her place is beautiful and right off the freeway which made it so easy to drive to everything we wanted to see.
She prepared lovely breakfasts with fresh fruit and freshly brewed coffee every morning, she even gave us a bottle of red wine one evening which we loved!
Thank you for everything Olga! You were truly amazing and if we ever come back to Oakland it would be a pleasure to stay at your place. It was so lovely meeting you and Angel!

About
A designer and writer passionate about knowledge and creativity, I love design, photography, technology, psychology, philosophy, language, cooking, horticulture, travel, exploring, flea markets, beach-combing, hiking, laughter, and Scrabble. I'm inspired by creative eccentricity, those who forge their own path in life, and I adore informed conversation. Compassion, kindness, and a non judgemental life are fundamental to my being. Eclecticism is my maxim, I know a little about a lot of things, I'm an NPR junkie, fan of contemporary art, alternative music and independent film, and am a freethinker. Born and raised in San Francisco, I moved to Oakland in 2012 after living in New York, London, Portland, Silicon Valley, and Los Angeles and absolutely love it here! Hosting is a delight for me and I truly enjoy going the "extra mile" to make each guest's stay memorable and enjoyable. Travellers from around the globe have arrived as guests and depart as friends, and I feel very blessed. My life is shared with 4 pounds of canine charm - Angel is a rescued Chihuahua who didn't get the memo that little dogs are annoying and yappy - she's delightful and a big flirt.
