Bathed in California sun this charming guest room is the perfect home base for those exploring the Bay Area. Enjoy a dreamy bed, gourmet kitchen, and high-end amenities, as well as easy access to major freeways and public transit.
Perfect for one or a happy couple, this cute and cozy room (10'6 x 10'6) receives an abundance of natural light from 2 exposures. Guests enjoy a super comfy double-bed dressed in Egyptian cotton linens (with a new gel-foam topper), closet, antique vanity, and broadband Internet.
Situated in a 2nd floor (walk-up) 900’ condo in a 4-unit building, the apartment (including bath, kitchen, and living area) is shared with my tiny, well-behaved pup, Angel, me (I’m pretty well behaved too) and Clifford our brand new kitten.
You are welcome to cook in the well appointed kitchen (stainless appliances including gas range with convection oven, microwave, toaster, fridge with filtered water/ice dispenser, espresso machine, dishwasher, pots/pans, etc.). Always available are great organic locally-roasted coffee beans and a large selection of teas, just help yourself.
Enjoy the view from the dining table, lounge on the pillows in the living room, play a game of Scrabble or Risk, update your blog, or catch a disco-nap in your room – all you need to do is make yourself at home!
Interaction with Guests
Years of extensive world-travels inform the standards I extend to my guests and every effort has been made to offer an affordable and enjoyable experience to you. I understand what being in a foreign city feels like and am here to help you acclimate quickly and find your way to the good stuff while making sure you have privacy.
A San Francisco native, I love hosting and sharing 'my' Bay Area with visitors. A freelance designer/writer I work from home and am available to offer directions, insider tips, or anything else you may need. There is a design desk in a portion of the living room where you might find me, but I respect privacy and keep a low profile. I am a mature woman with an eternally youthful spirit, friendly, reasonable, and want to help make your time here as comfortable as possible.
Located in Oakland’s friendly and safe Dimond District the neighborhood itself is small but offers a great organic market (Farmer Joe’s), award-winning bakery (La Farine), CVS Pharmacy, Oaklandish, Peet’s Coffee, Safeway, several family-owned restaurants and cafes, post-office, library, park, and other essential services. Just minutes away are Lake Merritt, Grand Avenue, Mills College, Downtown, Berkeley, Alameda, Emeryville, and some lovely trails in the nearby hills. San Francisco is an easy trip across the Bay Bridge.
I encourage guests to use public transit particularly if planning on spending time in San Francisco where driving and parking is a challenge.
ACtransit (the system in the East Bay ) is very convenient as is MUNI (the bus, trolley, and cable-cars in San Francisco). There are several express bus lines that take you to downtown San Francisco in 40 minutes. Bus stops are a 2-minute walk from my home.
BART is the Bay Area’s “rapid" transit system but generally the busses are more convenient and dependable (and smell better). Fares and routes vary by final destination and detailed info is available on their web-site. BART stations are a 10-15 minute bus ride from my home.
If you have a car, there is street parking directly in front of my building. A car is necessary to visit the Coast, go across the Golden Gate Bridge to Mill Valley, the Marin Headlands, or wine country (about 2 hours from here).
There are several ways to get to my home from either San Francisco International Airport (appx.1+ hour) or Oakland International Airport (20 minutes) including BART, Super Shuttle, or my preference – UBER. Let me know and I will be happy to provide details for your specific itinerary.
Other Things to Note
*** A very convenient location for commuters and explorers, my home is directly across from the 580 freeway. Although dual-paned windows are throughout, you can hear the sound of the freeway in the apartment; it’s consistent - not stop/start noise – and we locals pretend it’s the sound of the ocean as we drift off to sleep, but if you are a light sleeper or sound-sensitive this is not the place for you. It is for this reason that my price is very much below market value. With the exception of the sound, my home is extremely comfortable and guests can expect an exceptional stay. Please do not ask for discounts on the already low daily rate. ***
When guests stay with me, it's like having a friend visit. For this reason I do not accept "instant bookings" or reservation requests without a message telling me a bit about you and the reason for your visit. This ensures that a good stay will be had by all!
The guest room has a few handy items such as blow-drier, iron and ironing board, scale, international currency adapters, etc., but I do not have a television (you can stream, or browse my DVD collection if you need a movie fix).
I enjoy other people’s well-behaved children and have taken several precautions to child-proof. Travelers with young ones are welcome, but must be fully responsible for children at all times. Please discuss in advance of booking to make certain I can properly accommodate you.
Additional storage space is available for those travelling with bikes or other oversized items - just let me know and I will have it ready for you.
Kindly remove your shoes when you enter the apartment. Feel free to bring slippers to wear indoors if you like (the bedroom is carpeted).
Sorry, no cigarette smokers.
Check-in (3PM) and check-out (10AM) times may be flexible depending on my booking schedule. Please inquire in advance if you need special accommodation for an early arrival or late departure.
Be mindful that the dog and (particularly) cat don't wander out when you open the front door.

Olga has such a lovely place. So great to stay with her when I'm in town. She's a bright and happy person and an amazing cook as well. I had some long days planned on this last trip and was blessed with some delicious food left for me on a couple of occasions that made my day end fabulously. Yumm! Thank you Olga!
What an amazingly lovely place and gracious host. Olga was a delight to get to know. Big help in finding the best stores to shop for organics.
The freeway noise really didn't bother me at all, but if it would bother you, might not be a good choice.
Loved hanging out with Angel and Clifford as well. So much fun to have animals around when away from home.
Definitely stay again.
Olga is a kindred spirit. Her graciousness and even keel personna was so unexpected. That being said her space is a little piece of heaven carved out in Upper Diamond. Warm, kind with sweet pets, this was an awesome place to relax and enjoy.
My stay at Olga's apartment was absolutely fantastic. She was very flexible about my arrival time and is an extremely helpful, kind and reliable host. After a few minutes, you feel like talking with a best friend. Her hints about SF visiting were also greatly accurate and useful. The apartment is located in the very quiet and safe neighbourhood (despite the proximity, the highway was not too disturbing). Transport to downtown SF can be done by one of a few buses and takes approx. 30 minutes. The room is cozy, spacious and contains everything needed for a short or longer visit. As well as the room, the apartment is very clean and arranged with great taste.
Everything mentioned makes my visit unforgettable :)
We couldn't have asked for more ! The place was beautifully decorated, rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, parking plentiful.
For non drivers, the place is a short walk to grab a transbay bus to san francisco avoiding all the traffic :)
What made this good experience GREAT was due to Olga's hospitality and friendship !
Olga was the kindest, most welcoming host. I cannot begin to describe all the ways that Olga helped us but I hope to give a few examples below.
Arriving at Olga's, I was welcomed in and gently waltzed through a tour of her place and introduced to her pets (definitely super cute) then given a little time to take a breather from my travels. The shower was brilliant and there were even some products to use and big fluffy towels. Everything was spotlessly clean and beautifully styled, like a perfect boutique. When my other half arrived - with bike and a huge amount of bags, he was equally welcomed, and shown somewhere secure to store his bike. The bed was phenomenally comfortable, with quality bedding and sheets and a duvet and blankets (we didn't need those, it was unseasonably warm!) The kitchen was small but perfectly formed and well thought out, with everything you need for light cooking right there. There was a space for us in the fridge and fresh coffee and cereal bowls laid out for us each morning.
Olga obviously cares for the environment and the cleaning products in her home were fit for eco-kings and queens.
Olga was amazingly calming on our travel worn minds - showing us how to put on a load of washing and helping us out with some food, as we'd arrived later than planned. Great local travel advice was always on hand and Olga simply went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Olga left us to our own devices and trusted us in her house, chatting to us with wonderful stories, but also being perceptive, sensing when we wanted space - without us having to say a word.
Thank you so much, Olga. We really enjoyed our stay and your endless warmth and kindness. Becky and (website hidden)
Full disclosure, the place IS right next to the freeway - there's no way to escape the constant hum - but it really is that, constant, not intermittent or irritating, and we actually slept very peacefully, only wearing earplugs on the first night. During the day, it's just as busy, but we were out most of the days, and by the time we returned in the evenings we were ready to relax, cook and enjoy each-other's company - the noise didn't factor. On the plus side of this (as well as all the many positives I've listed above) you cannot hear a thing outside your room - no loo noises in the night, no sounds of tv, or loud music just the sound of your loved one breathing softly beside you and the eager travellers making their journeys through the night.
Olga's place is super comfortable, with a touch of luxury. Add to that her San Francisco savvy, and it made for a wonderful stay. She offered really useful advice on restaurants, traffic conditions and tourist spots, and our weekend getaway was a success. She's a pro, I'd happily stay here again.

Born and raised in San Francisco, I moved to Oakland in 2012 after living in New York, London, Portland, Silicon Valley, and Los Angeles and absolutely love it here! Hosting is a delight for me and I truly enjoy going the "extra mile" to make each guest's stay memorable and enjoyable. Travellers from around the globe have arrived as guests and depart as friends, and I feel very blessed.
My life is shared with the charming Angel, a rescued Chihuahua who didn't get the memo that little dogs are annoying and yappy, and her new kitten, Clifford, who is...all things kitten.
