About this listing

House at the Praia Brava da Fortaleza with 4 rooms in the middle of the Atlantic forest.

The space

After a 6 km drive on a breathtaking scenic route, you’ll find this little piece of paradise. Nested on a hillside with a fabulous view to the ocean, surrounded by luxurious rain forest, the house is built in two different levels. The lower level contains a large bedroom with private bath overlooking the ocean, spacious veranda, outdoor living room and a mini-fridge. The upper level offers 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, dining room, living room with TV, well equipped cozy kitchen with microwave, pantry which houses a refrigerator and a freezer, with a lot of food storage room. Two of the bedrooms have French doors that open onto a L-shaped veranda with a wonderful view to the rain forest and the ocean. Available to our guests are two portable barbecue apparatus, one traditional and one Genghis Khan type.
An easy walk downhill will take you to 2 fantastic beaches, the Praia Brava, small with white soft sand and a gentle surf, and the Praia da Fortaleza, with calm waters, and a nice infrastructure for food and drinks. (The walk back is quite rough though, so you may consider driving). There are magnificent walks in the woods nearby, leading to other beautiful beaches, almost deserted

My husband and I stayed here during Carnival. The house had an amazing view of the mountains and ocean. It also had a large wrap around porch. The two main bedrooms opened up on to the porch with an great view. The house was within walking distance of a very nice beach. However the walk home is 10-15 minutes up a very steep hill. Unfortunately we had several problems with our stay. I had a difficult time communicating with Manoel. He initially responded to my emails quickly, but when we had problems, it took him several days to respond. I also wish that someone could have been available at check in to show us how to use the stove and/or access the downstairs. (We weren't sure if we were supposed to be able to access the downstairs, and we never figured it out.) In addition we were not able to figure out how to turn on the stove. The microwave didn't work at all which made it very difficult to cook. The house is in a very remote location, so not being able to cook was really annoying. There were two bathrooms. However the light in the second bathroom didn't work, and it had a very strong odor. So it was almost impossible to use. We used the mosquito nets over our bed every night, but we still got bug bites that made us suspicious of a bed bug infestation. Since we had so many issues with the house and Manoel did not respond to our emails in a timely manner (several days) my husband and I checked out 5 days early and went to a hotel. When we finally heard from Manoel, he was very apologetic, and he offered to let us stay an extra week free of charge. We declined because we wanted to spend the rest of our vacation in Rio de Janeiro, but we did appreciate the offer. In conclusion, I just feel like as much money as someone makes on renting this house out, it would be reasonable to hire a property manager that lives in or around Ubatuba to be available if tenants have problems.

Manoel's house was one of the most beautiful places I have stayed. The location is the best in the area, overlooking some of the best beaches in the world with total privacy. Within walking distance to a small private beach, it is the perfect place to stay for a weekend getaway. The house is just like the pictures and was incredible. Mosquito nets were provided for every bed to help fight the mosquitos at night. The driveway to get to the house is a little tricky but after going up it once, you get the hang of it. I would 100% stay here again if I'm ever in the area!

It was a terrible experience! The house was not ready -- Manoel forgot to tell his housekeeper about our arrival. Linens and towels were hanging from cloth lies in the front porch, the KEY WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND, no lights, no response from Manoel to my many phone calls. The house does not look like the pictures any longer -- very hard access.

Response from Manoel:
We had a mistake at check in and the keys were not at the house. Rosana spoke on the telephone with our housekeeper, who on arriving at the house found two doors broken into, a window of glass broken by the group to enter the house without the keys. At the end of the stay Rosana sent me a threatening message asking for money to ease criticism that would make my home public airbnb comments. I offered the reimbursement I thought was right for the inconvenience but that was 3 times less than Rosana wanted. Contrary to the standard of cleanliness that her group claims to have, they left our house with 2 broken doors, a broken window, did not clean the broken glass, did not collect the garbage and left the house unclean!

manoel's house is so great! charming and comfy, and what a location! it might not be a step away from the beach, but the views are definitely worth the walk uphill. a must if you're staying in the ubatuba region.

Our stay at Manoel's house on the hill was wonderful. The location is in one of the nicest residential communities I've seen in this region and the views from the house were incredible. We'd walk down to the small Praia Brava beach (and even got to surf some small waves there) and then drive to other nearby beaches (Itamambuca was our favorite and this was about 20 km away). The house was clean and had everything we needed. The nights were cool and so the ceiling fan was perfect to help us sleep soundly. We made friends with the neighbor's cat and he stayed with us for the entirely of our stay, we didn't make friends with the bugs though. Being in this part of the rainforest, it's an unavoidable thing to deal with the little critters. Because the house is on a hill, be prepared to take a steep drive up and follow Manoel's driving directions to easily access the property. I would certainly stay here again and dealing with Manoel was very pleasant.

Manoel is a wonderful host. He contacted us promptly, his communication was clear, and he supplied us with great advice on how best to arrive at the house and what the surrounding area had to offer. All in all it was a tremendous experience which we will be sure to repeat.

Is there a word for wilderness luxury? Oh, yes: “Paradise.” This house is stunning, most notably for its expansive veranda that overlooks lush hillsides, rolling waves in a turquoise sea and mountains in the distance. The kitchen is very nicely equipped. The three bedrooms, two baths, living room and dining room are all very comfortable. There’s easy access to many beaches, and shopping is convenient. The first arrival can be quite tricky, with lots of steep hills and sharp turns - especially if one arrives after dark, as we did. Thankfully, Manoel provides exceedingly detailed directions (complete with photos and maps), which helped enormously in finding the place, if not in avoiding our trepidation in driving up the staggeringly steep access road. Although we never met him, Manoel was extremely responsive and very quick to answer questions. The place has the feel of a family home, not a rental. Our stay here was delicious.
