Where you’ll be

Stanley, Tasmania, Australia

Fishing is a religion in this town and of course there is The Nut to view and perhaps climb if you have the energy. Enjoy a stroll along Godfrey's beach and take in the view of historic Highfield House. And of course you will need to spend a day at the brand new eco-tourism attraction of Tarkine Forest Adventures.

In terms of local food and drink? Well Stanley's you're oyster. Do yourself a favour and head just up the road to The Angel's Share - whether it's for the whisky, the company or the locally handcrafted giftware, you'll be glad you made the effort to walk the whole 40 seconds there from your front door. Spend some time perusing the goods at Providore 24 but of all things in that beautiful shop, my favourite is the olive bread. Take it straight home, lightly toast it, and put some Duck River Butter on there... Thank me later. The restaurants in town are superb. If you're lucky enough to be around for the weekend head on down to the pub and watch the sunset. If you've stayed late at the pub to enjoy the local shenanigans, there's no better hangover fix than breakfast at Moby Dick's Breakfast Bar. Don't save Moby Dick's for the last breakfast, once you realise what a gem it is you'll want to work your way through the menu piece by delicious piece (try the Aussie Sunrise!).
This really is only the tip of the iceberg and conveniently it's all within 2 minutes from The Lodge, but the more you explore Stanley the more you'll find to love.
The Big Tree at Dip Falls and The Edge of the World at Arthur River are only a 45-60 minute drive from Stanley.
