Relax in our super comfy oversized queen bed overlooking the courtyard garden, with stain glass windows, strong turbo speed wifi signal, reading desk, armoire, and sleighbed.
We are a composer and artist couple who live in a large renovated church hall in the Rondout section of Kingston, just up the street from restaurants, marinas, art galleries, boating, kayaking, and easy drives to hikes and swimming or skiing. We are perfectly situated less than 20 minutes drive from Woodstock, Bard College, Rhinebeck, Rosendale, mountain lakes and waterfalls. Organic coffee and teas are included in the morning along with highspeed WIFI internet access. The home is filled with beautiful abstract expressionist paintings. This listing is for our largest and most private bedroom with a ultra comfortable oversized queen bed, high ceilings, stained glass windows, a writing desk, antique armoire and a view of the courtyard garden. Guests share 2 full bathrooms and there is a 3rd private bathroom that we will share if there is overflow. The 2 guest baths includes a really powerful full pressured shower with a claw foot tub and a jacuzzi in the other bathtub. While we are generally working in our studios guests are welcome to come in for a tour. In addition to organic coffee and tea we are happy to prepare a delicious locally sourced home cooked breakfast for ten dollars per guest. On nice days we serve breakfast in the garden and in inclement weather guests gather around the farm table in the kitchen for breakfast. We are required to collect Ulster County and NY State tax for your stay upon departure.
Guests are welcome in the kitchen in the mornings between 9-11AM and can pop in earlier for coffee and tea. There is no smoking indoors and smoking is permitted in the courtyard. There is plenty of on street parking available. The only time it gets crowded on the street is Sunday morning as we have 4 churches on the street (not including ours) which makes for some lovely sounding church bells announcing services. Special arrangements can be made to park in our courtyard behind the gates. While pets are welcome we ask you not to leave them alone for extended periods when there are other guests in adjoining rooms. If they are shedders we require an additional $25 to the cleaning fee per visit.
Peter and Julie are truly warm and welcoming hosts, and made our stay at Des Artistes far beyond what we could have imagined. Their home is a reflection of them: peaceful, authentic, and full of beauty and balance. The renovated church has cloudlike beds, stained glass windows, magical studios and a satisfyingly massive kitchen. Julie and Peter had great suggestions of places to eat, and made us appreciate Kingston for the diverse and artistic community that it is. Julie's delicious breakfast waiting in the morning is completely amazing, and accompanied by easy, intelligent conversation. Special folks. Special place. Authentic experience.
Peter and Julie were good at communicating before our arrival, were warm and welcoming, and helpful with recommendations for local activities. The guest space was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was an additional charge ($10) but completely worth it! Overall, it was a wonderful experience and would recommend staying if visiting the Hudson River Valley.
Great place to stay. Host makes you feel like your at home. Makes me and emily want to move to Kingston. Good food and drink very close. Beautiful old church. Great weekend getaway.
Peter and Julie's "blue room" was a fantastic place to wake into on a winter morning. An excellent breakfast, with great conversation, rounded out a wonderful start to the day. These exceptional hosts will make you feel at home in Kingston.
What can I say that hasn't already been said? Good vibes from Peter and Julie from the moment they greeted us. Their breakfast was delicious, and they made special gluten and apple-free dishes for my allergic girlfriend. The surrounding area was beautiful after a heavy snowstorm the previous day, and I'm sure it would be even more so in spring. Lots of great places to eat and walks to be had. Can't wait to come back.
My family and I had the most lovely, art filled, and warm weekend in Kingston with Peter and Julie. Between the breath taking accommodations, mouth watering breakfasts, and the comfy dream inspiring bed... We could not have asked for more. To boot we were also able to enjoy incredible cross country ski and good meals not too far away. Even our 5 year old daughter was enamored!!
I can assure you that it is my hope to revisit the Church des Artistes during the other three seasons. What a great escape from NY.
We had such a good time last weekend. I am already dreaming of going back....and we surely will do. Julie and Peter are so warm and welcoming that we immediately felt at home.
