About This Listing
** update - I have decided to rent for a longer term to a young family who just had a little baby who live on a boat in the marina - so check back next summer - thanks to all who have stayed so far - it's been amazing!!
This is the perfect getaway for singles, a couple, or a group of friends. It's a super cute and funky 620 square foot float home located right in the heart of Cowichan Bay! It has everything you need for a fun adventure including use of a canoe and kayak. Steps to the quaint Cowichan Bay Village means enjoying a latte at an outdoor coffee shop, browsing the unique artist nooks and boutiques, and heading out for an adventurous whale watching tour in the warmth of the afternoon. An evening at the local pub or infamous Rock Cod Restaurant means you will be ready to take a evening stroll along the boardwalk and marinas enjoying all that nature and the splendid ocean has to offer. You can even enjoy the Nature Centre, the Wooden Boat Museum and enjoy late night entertainment at the local hangouts.
This is really an incredible opportunity to leave the hectic life behind, sit on the outside garden dock, sip cocktails and listen to the otters and sea lions play.
As far as accommodations go ... there is a queen bed in the main bedroom, a double up in the loft/bedroom as well as a pull out chair that makes into another single. There is also a double futon in the living room that pulls into a bed.
We have just recently renovated including all new paint in the living room and kitchen, bathroom and bedroom (which looks great if I say so myself!) and new carpet in the living room and loft. So everything looks fresh, bright, and clean!
Come give it a try ... you will want to come back again and again!
Interaction with Guests
I am available by text or phone any time. Please leave a message if I happen to miss your call. Usually I work a lot and am away most weekends and I like to give people their privacy ..but when I am around I'd love to meet up - just let me know!
What a fabulous neighbourhood! There is so much life and attractions and generally a fabulous feeling that comes with a fabulous community of people. There is a lot to do right in the area from walking the beach to enjoying a beverage at the local watering hole. The best part is that the nights are so quiet you'd hardly know you are right in the heart of a small town.
As a side note, some of the shops are closed on Mondays - so there maybe less to do on those days.
There is a bus that goes right into Duncan and the surrounding area that stops right outside the marina grocery store.
This is the type of place that you can just 'show up'. There are all the amenities ready for you - there is linen, bedding, towels, a complete kitchen including dishes, utensils, a coffee maker, and even a hair dryer and curling iron, slippers and robes. Just bring your own toiletries and sense of adventure.
Please note that this is my main residence - so when you stay here, I'm either up the ramp at my daughter's apartment or at my partner's cottage out of town. There are some of my personal items around and for kitchenware etc you are welcome to use whatever you need. I just ask that you respect my space and know that I'm ok with sharing with whatever you need to enjoy your stay. If you're not sure what to use - don't hesitate to ask ... I'm only a text away.
But most importantly ....I want you to have the best experience ever and will do everything I can to make that happen and please have fun!
This was a great place for a family getaway. The kids loved sleeping up in the loft and it was so cool walking out the door in the mornings right onto the dock. True Grain Bread and Cowichan Bay Seafood were great. Shops and restaurants are very close by - right at the top of the ramp. And the beds and living area were comfy and cozy. Thank you, Judy, for sharing your lovely home!
this was an awesome place to stay, an amazing setting, great neighbours, we will come back in a heart beat!
We had a great time staying at Judy's float home. Judy was extremely helpful. Highly recommended!
Funky float home is a really apt description; what a fun crazy place. We had a great time staying aboard the house boat and loved sitting in/on the floating garden. The house is really well appointed and comfortable. As others have mentioned, the marine toilet is an interesting experience... but there is a normal bathroom just up the dock at the marina. Also, you can't beat the bakery that's a stone's throw from the house. We didn't have a chance to meet Judy, but really enjoyed our stay in Cowichan Bay.
We stayed for one night with our kids and brother and sister in law. The kids loved the upstairs and we enjoyed an evening meal on the floating patio. We all went for a sun set paddle around the bay and enjoyed looking at all the different boats and sea life. This was the first time we slept on a house boat and we loved it. We can really recommend the place to those that are looking for more than just a place to stay. Also make sure you go for breakfast in the bakery just up from the house boat dock with great bread and very good coffee.
We LOVED our stay at the Funky Float Home! The location is fantastic. There is excellent dining and shopping within 100m of the home. The house itself was exactly as described. Sitting on the floating deck in the afternoons was a zen experience. The other marine residents were overwhelming friendly, which contributes to the overall great experience. Judy provided left us with a huge amount of information on the surrounding area which helped us easily explore. We'd come back here in a second!

Our stay on the floating house was fantastic! Our kids loved the loft and the house was spacious and had all the necessities covered. Any questions we had were responded to in about 15 minutes. And what a great location with funky stores and healthy eateries minutes away on foot. We wish we had stayed longer!
About the Host, Judy
I run a non profit environmental organization and feel so fortunate to have the best job in the world! I am an avid kayaker and can certainly loan out my baby to those who want to give paddling a go around the bay. This is such a great lifestyle that I decided to share my home with those who have never been blessed to enjoy the float home life! It's a bit of a funky way to live (and the marine toilet can be a little challenging for city-folks - but luckily there is the option to use the marina washrooms right up the ramp) I hope you are intrigued enough to come and stay here - have all the fun of marina life with just a quick email. Hope to see you soon!
