A homely yet stylish new family run bed and breakfast, where warm minimalism combines with simple local detailing and great service. This beautiful yet quirkily designed B&B arose from derelict colonial home, built in the early 1930s that once belonged to the Purdy family. Thankfully we were able to retain most of the original features, hence it's a unique mix of old and new; an idiosyncratic restoration.
Well located for exploring the attractions of Nairobi and Karen, it is a simple place, furnished in a homely style so after a days hot and dusty meandering, the Purdy Arms offers a calm and cool sanctuary in which to recharge over a drink or two and a meal whilst overlooking the stunning gardens.
Situated on 23 acres, the main building overlooks gardens full of indigenous trees & resident wildlife (duikers roam the plot and owls live in the bamboo) and is close to Wilson Airport the departure point for all of the local air safaris and only 16kms from the Nairobis International Airport. With only 5 airy rooms, its buzzy without losing the friendly intimacy of a boutique hotel and perfectly situated for trips and tours both in and around Nairobi as well as safaris further afield.
Purdy Arms has several large clean well tended rooms with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, sitting rooms with cozy chairs and TV, generally consistent internet connection and full bathrooms in each room (though uneven, some nicer than others but all clean and just fine). Breakfast included is yummy and offers variety, great coffee. Also a restaurant and bar that is a meeting place for many ( mostly Brits, Australians and U.S. folks) serves reliable, clean and tasty food -full bar-good wine choices. If you are sensitive to noise a good night's sleep may be a challenge on the weekends as this is a popular gathering place and can be very loud and some rooms are better protected than others from the action. The staff is friendly, fun and gracious. The dog and cats are friendly. PA referred us to a great driver, Bernard Kamau (phone number hidden), reliable and friendly---highly recommend him and Purdy will connect you and arrange for airport pick ups and you can make independent arrangements with Kamau. Take note that folks are relaxed at Purdy and I advise you give them a heads up about settling your invoice a day before you need to leave---my experience is they were not well organized in having the invoice ready and it created a little stress for us as we needed to get to the airport in a timely manner.
