Utilizing 1/5 of an acre with an Eco/Permaculture Design ethic, nestled in the desirable Meiners Oaks section of Ojai. This private gated property features a 3BR main house, 2 rental cabins, and beautiful gardens.

The Space

The Pine Cabin features a queen bed, love seat, writers desk, wall heater, and A/C unit.

All of our cleaning supplies are eco friendly and natural, and our gardens are organic. We have premium beds and 100% cotton linens. We do our best to choose the healthiest and most sustainable option available. There is filtered drinking water in one of the bathroom sinks.

Guest Access

Guests have shared access to wireless internet, hot tub, pool table, outdoor kitchen, 3 outdoor bathrooms, 2 outdoor showers (1 has a claw foot bathtub!). There is ample street parking, bicycles, and library/video check out. Our chickens and gardens provide fresh eggs and produce when available.

Interaction with Guests

We have a caretaker on site who can help arrange bicycles or assist with other needs. Please let us know what time you plan on arriving so we can let you in and give you a tour of the property.

The Neighborhood

The property is 2.5 miles from downtown Ojai and close to hiking/mountain biking trails, local hot springs, and local wine tasting. We are walking distance to organic restaurants, yoga classes, Aikido lessons, and bars.

Getting around

Many things are within walking distance and we do have bikes for guests to borrow. The Ojai Trolley goes from Meiners Oaks to downtown Ojai.

Other Things to Note

Meiners Oaks Retreat does not allow pets. While pets are never allowed in the house, we keep chickens and one sweet kitty lives outdoors on the property. There are dogs, cats, chickens, horses, and other animals in our neighborhood.

We generally have a 2 night minimum, but exceptions can be made, so contact us with any questions.

In an effort to make the place the best retreat possible, it is currently going through some renovations. There are some renovation materials still on site. We make every effort to work around bookings to keep the place as comfortable and quiet as possible for our guests.

We have rubbish service at the street. If you have more trash than will fit inside of our trashcans, we will handle your extra rubbish for a fee of $30 per trash can (32 gallon size). All rubbish must be sorted.

See "Meiners Oaks Retreat" on the internet for more pics and info. Please note, all reservations must be booked through airbnb.

  • Had a great time! What a beautiful place!

  • We had a great connection with Sara (host). She was very accommodating. The location was very quiet. It felt as if we had the entire property to ourselves even though there were other occupants. The cabin was clean and cozy. We enjoyed our relaxing stay here. Highly recommended.

  • Really enchanting property, and we loved the sense of privacy.

  • The Meiners Oaks Retreat was truly an experience I'll never forget. We stayed in the quaint Pine cabin and were fascinated by the property. Beautiful chandeliers hanging from the trees made for an enchanting night near the fire pit. Sarah was very kind and allowed us to check in early - everything was ready for us when we arrived. The cabin itself was very clean and we appreciated the Eco Heater since the weather was chilly. If you're looking for an experience off the beaten path in the Ojai area, the Meiners Oaks Retreat won't disappoint.

  • What a beautiful haven Mark has created in the woods of Ojai. I immediately felt calm when I entered the woods, and had the pleasure of meeting Mark, who is a kind and magical presence with a big heart that is visible even in brief conversation. He is usually not on the grounds and has a caretaker check you in, but I was lucky to meet him.

The cabin is private and is a perfect place to write, to think, and clear your head. Aside from meeting Mark and a brief interaction with the caretaker, Sarah, I was alone with the roosters and the birds and the trees.

I believe that a late night soak in the hot tub, looking up at the stars may have relieved some unknown burden because I returned to Los Angeles lighter than when I came.

I plan on returning to Mark's retreat every now and again when I seek some peace.

  • A place to go for some extreme relaxation! We spent a lot of time on the hammocks, in the hot tub, hanging out with the chickens (Roxanne, Krishna, The Professor, etc.), and going out for delicious meals.
The place was very similar to what I expected, having read the description (as one reviewer pointed out, the pictures alone don't fully convey the property--specifically it is less private than it seems from the photos, because there are two other cabins on the property, and the outdoor showers are shared). The only (pleasant) surprise was an outdoor kitchen! We never ended up using it, but if we go back we probably will.
Claire, the host, was welcoming and helpful.
Overall, I highly recommend this retreat, and hope to go back next year.

  • Such a charming place to stay! Would recommend the place and we had a pleasant experience from start to finish.

  • Great experience staying at Mark's retreat for the weekend. The woman watching the grounds, Claire, was very receptive and a great host. The Pine cabin was exactly as described and perfect for a good night sleep (the bed was awesome). While there was a family staying in the larger home, we rarely heard them or ran into them. There are three bathrooms to share and never any issue with that, the showers or hot tub. I'm very happy that we cancelled the Inn reservation we had in Ojai and opted to stay at Mark's. I'd certainly go back if I am in the area again. For anyone staying here I suggest you check out the book selection near the pool table and read for a few hours in one of the hammocks, very interesting collection of material.

  • We love this place! Such a nice, affordable little retreat. You have to be comfortable with a somewhat rustic setting, and if you are, this place is amazing! Chickens, outdoor claw foot tub, hot tub, outdoor fireplace, cozy cabin, cute decor- the place place couldn't be any more awesome. And Magda the caretaker of the grounds is the best!! And she responds quickly- so you are very well- taken care of!
