Interaction with Guests

We are in the beautiful Greenwood neighborhood bordering UNC woodland trails. We love the convenience of being walking distance (or short ride) to the UNC campus and hospital, while still feeling that we live in the country. We have lots of trees, flowers, birds, butterflies, deer... and a friendly neighborhood.
The Chapel Hill Transit bus system is free. It's about a two-minute walk to bus stops, with easy access to the university, UNC Heath Care and major shopping/restaurant areas. A food store and drugstore are a ten-minute walk away.
Other Things to Note
We prefer having a phone conversation with prospective guests before accepting a reservation.
After we receive a booking request, we will ask airbnb to contact you. They will ask your permission to give us your phone number so that we can give you a call.
I was extremely pleased during my entire visit to North Carolina and Gracious Greenwood was a large part of the experience! I flew in from Chicago a day before my graduate school interview and Alan was kind enough not only to pick me up from the airport but drive me through campus so I knew where to go in the morning. The forest scenery, amenities and transportation were all major benefits of the Airbnb and my hosts ensured I was comfortable and relaxed before the big day. I couldn't have asked for a nicer stay! I would recommend Alan and Victoria to anyone visiting Chapel Hill in the near future.
Our stay at Gracious Greenwood was, in a word, perfect . Alan and Vicky simply do everything right to make visitors feel welcome and relaxed. The cleverly designed mini-kitchen was perfect for preparing breakfast, the rooms were spacious and the bed so comfortable , complete with electric mattress cover for those chilly nights. Everything we needed for our weekend stay was provided, there were even umbrellas by the door! It was so quiet and peaceful, and the birdwatching was fantastic! On our next visit to Chapel Hill, we will consider ourselves lucky to stay at this lovely property. Well done Alan and Vicky!
Alan called us before we made the trip. Vicki met us at the door, gave us full instructions as to manage the apartment. They had left fruit, coffee, tea, as well as muffins, and there were flowers on the table.
Me and my friend stayed with Vicky and Alan at Gracious Greenwoods for a month while on an elective at UNC. This was our first time in the U.S. and, in a large part because of our amazing hosts, it was a great experience. Their place was truly our home away from home.
Rooms were very comfortable, warm, spacious, and Vicky brought fresh flowers every week. I was amazed to see so many squirrels and different birds outside the window.. it was a very lively yet peaceful place even in January. The bathroom was great too. Hot water never ran out and the new big sink allowed us to do most of our daily chores independently, which was great taking into account how long we stayed. Alan and Vicky took care of all the bigger tasks - our place was always clean, we could use their washing machine when needed, they took us to the store several times, got us some power adapters we had forgotten to take with us, took us to the basketball game, and helped in many other ways. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. There are several forest trails nearby perfect for afternoon walks, and the public transportation was near to get us to the UNC, Franklin St. and other places around the Chapel Hill. There were also some nice places to eat in walking distance from the house and many more on Franklin St.
To sum up, Gracious Greenwoods is a great place to stay when in Chapel Hill, and Vicky and Alan are amazing hosts. We hope to return someday.
Anete & Kristine
This is hands down the nicest airbnb I've ever stayed at! Vicky and Alan are the sweetest, most caring hosts a guest could ask for. They kindly called us before our arrival and asked what kind of food we'd like (how thoughtful!). Not only did they fulfill our requests, but they also gave us some fresh fruit and flowers!
Each room was lovely and the heated beds were extremely comfortable. It was nice to sit by the window and check out the birds as they fluttered through the gorgeous trees outside.
This is a great place to stay, whether you want to relax, you're visiting family or nearby UNC. Throughout our whole trip I felt as though we were staying with friends. Can't wait to return to the gracious hosts and wonderful space!
Vicky and Alan made my son and I feel welcome from the moment we arrived until the time that we (reluctantly) had to leave their lovely home. This listing was not only accurate, but was BETTER than expected! The neighborhood was heavily wooded and felt remote, although was in very close proximity to shopping, restaurants, and major highways (making for easy travel from one place to another). There were numerous special touches Vicky and Alan prepared for us prior to our arrival that made us feel right at home. Alan knew we were interested in riding bikes around the area so he had them waiting for us in the front yard. Unfortunately, due to rain, we were unable to ride them. Alan, a musician himself, put one of his guitars and a tuner in my son's room knowing that he loved to play guitar. When my son wasn't reading his books, he was strumming the guitar and that made him extremely happy and feel at home. Vicky called us the morning of our arrival to see what breakfast items we would like to have. It was very gracious of her to accommodate a request for vegan food and had several vegan muffins, almond milk, preserves, butter, and orange juice in the frig. All of which were delicious! On the table, there was a bowl of fresh clementines (which were all eaten and enjoyed) along side of a vase filled with fresh evergreen and berries freshly picked from their property. I LOVED the "coffee & tea" station; everything you could want for hot beverages and more! One of my favorite things about our stay was something unexpected! Outside one of the windows in my bedroom was a suet feeder. I sat in the chair by the window for over an hour simply mesmerized watching one bird after the other feeding on the suet. I think I counted up to EIGHT different species of birds. The heated beds were incredible! So warm and cozy at night. Vicky and Alan gave us some great recommendations for restaurants that we dined at during our stay. Alan and Vicky were superb and very personable hosts. My son and I hated to leave and want to go back to visit them and stay at their lovely home again.
Victoria and Alan has a beautiful location in Chapel Hill. Within the city but feels like its isolated in the country. The apartment is perfect for 3-4 persons and allows plenty of personal space. Bright and beautifully appointed. Very homey and comfortable. Plenty of hot water. With the convenience of a fridge, microwave, toaster oven and coffee maker. No need to bring anything, they provided many of the amenities one needs including coffee, tea and creamer and they had some delicious muffins to enjoy the next morning. Way so much better than any hotel room which was our original intent. Our hosts were very gracious and helpful. They went to a lot of extra effort to accommodate my wife's allergy issues. Which we appreciated greatly. We enjoy what few conversations we had with them. The only down side was that we only stayed for one night. We definitely would like to stay there again whenever we get back to Chapel Hill. Thank you Alan and Victoria!
Vicky was born and raised in North Carolina. For forty years she guided the development of Chapel Hill's first and largest recreational soccer program. Her love of flowers at home and at work at Whole Foods helps keeps her happy. Vicky's license plate reads, "GR@I2UDE." She is grateful for her life in Chapel Hill… and most everything.
Alan was born in Chicago and lived in Arizona, Hawaii and Norway. He was a Cruise Director and Director of Entertainment for major cruise lines after a successful singing career that included stage, TV, concerts and recording. After retiring to Chapel Hill, Alan began volunteering at UNC Hospitals singing for patients, with a special interest in bringing music to children. Most recently, Alan was asked to join the Guest Services Team at UNC Health Care, guitar and all.
Two of our favorite films are "Love Actually" and "The Intouchables."
