Guest Access

You will have your own entrance and your privacy will always be respected. Just let us know how we can help you become more familiar with the university, hospital, botanical gardens, local shopping and restaurants.

Interaction with Guests

We want your stay to be personalized and memorable. Are there any snacks/supplies you would like us to purchase for you before you arrive? What kind of morning pastries do you prefer? Because Alan loves his coffee, he can provide several different types of coffee & coffee-makers.

The Neighborhood

We are in the beautiful Greenwood neighborhood bordering UNC woodland trails. We love the convenience of being walking distance (or short ride) to the UNC campus and hospital, while still feeling that we live in the country. We have lots of trees, flowers, birds, butterflies, deer... and friendly neighbors.

Getting around

The Chapel Hill Transit bus system is free. It's about a two-minute walk to bus stops, with easy access to the university, UNC Heath Care and major shopping/restaurant areas. A food store and drugstore are a ten-minute walk away.

Other Things to Note

*BEFORE BOOKING: We prefer having a phone conversation with prospective guests before accepting a reservation.
Here is how to make that happen:
First, make sure you have "verified" your phone number with Airbnb (you only have to do this once). BEFORE you make an inquiry for our listing, select the option that allows us to initiate a call to you via "Voice Connect."
Voice Connect allows a phone call without revealing any personal contact information. For us to be able to call you with Voice Connect, you must choose “Yes” when asked if we (the host) can call you about the reservation. This option is presented when contacting a host for the first time. Calls can only be placed between 9 AM and 9 PM.
How it works:
•First AirBnB calls our phone, then they call you to connect us.
•Neither of us will see any personal contact information.
•This call will be recorded by AirBnB for the security and protection of all parties involved.

Looking forward to speaking with you.

  • This was our first experience with Airbnb, and we really could not have asked for a better experience. We were exhausted after a long drive, and had gotten in later than we'd hoped. Vicky and Alan greeted us when we rolled in, and gave us a quick tour of their place. It was a private suite off to the side of the house with two bedrooms, a full bath, and a basic kitchenette, perfect for lazy morning coffees.

We enjoyed our stay so much, and if we're ever to return to the area, would not hesitate to stay with them again. Great hosts, and a great experience overall.

  • Victoria and Alan's place was beautiful and we had a very comfortable two-night stay. Victoria stayed up to greet us even though we arrived very late at night. The suite was full of thoughtful little touches. The location was an easy walk to the UNC campus. We only wish we weren't so busy and had more time to enjoy their place!

  • The suite is a beautiful and comfortable space with every amenity you could possibly need. Alan and Vicky were great hosts - they accommodated my last minute booking request and gave me very helpful directions to my appointment. Coffee, an English muffin, filtered water, fresh flowers, and fruit were all appreciated extra touches.

  • Dear Victoria and Alan,

Thank you very much for your kind hospitality. Such a wonderful house and garden! And so beautiful with all the flowers outside and inside.

Hope to see you again soon.

  • This apartment was fantastic and I would absolutely stay there again the next time I'm in Chapel Hill. The owners' attention to detail was impressive; the unit had all the amenities we would find in a hotel and more. They were waiting for us when we arrived and gave us the privacy we needed during our stay. The location is very convenient to UNC's campus and there is an easy place to park right in front. Highly recommended!

  • This was our second stay with Vicky and Alan, and it was every bit as pleasant as the first one. Their space is pleasant, quiet, and very close to campus. We'll be back!

  • We had a wonderful stay in Vicky and Alan's lovely suite, which has everything (and more!) than we could possibly need. It was extremely comfortable and quiet, and Vicky and Alan were very welcoming. Thank you!

  • This was my first Airbnb experience and it exceeded my expectations. From the opportunity to get to know the hosts prior by phone I was looking forward to meeting them and felt as though I had a home away from home. The amenities were all there as described, but their extra attention and helpfulness were a nice surprise and made my stay extra comfortable. I was disappointed that the weather cleared up and I didn't have to stay an extra night. I said I would look for an opportunity to return and actually found a reason within 10 minutes of leaving ! I already have recommended Gracious Greenwood to others . Thank you.

  • We had a LOVELY visit with Alan and Victoria. Their place was perfect for us. Our daughter is a student at UNC and it was very close to her and all the things we do while we are in Chapel Hill. Every little detail was covered. The coffee was wonderful and there was a mini kitchen that was perfect. The rooms were a really nice size and very clean and bright, just wonderful. We go to Chapel Hill often and hope to stay with them every time we go. The room also has a separate entrance and driveway. Which was nice because we came in late both night we were there. I really can't think of a single thing they could add.

  • Vicky & Alan were very attentive and responsive to booking my reservation. Unfortunately I had to cancel due to illness and death in the family. airbnb was horrible to communicate with. I have emailed several times to get a refund for my reservation and NEVER got any response. This was my first time using airbnb and it was not a good experience with the company.

About
Vicky was born and raised in North Carolina. For forty years she guided the development of Chapel Hill's first and largest recreational soccer program. Her love of flowers at home and at work at Whole Foods helps keeps her happy. Vicky's license plate reads, "GR@I2UDE." She is grateful for her life in Chapel Hill… and most everything. Alan was born in Chicago and lived in Arizona, Hawaii and Norway. He was a Cruise Director and Director of Entertainment for major cruise lines after a successful singing career that included stage, TV, concerts and recording. After retiring to Chapel Hill, Alan began volunteering at UNC Hospitals singing for patients, with a special interest in bringing music to children. Most recently, Alan was asked to join the Guest Services Team at UNC Health Care, guitar and all. Two of our favorite films are "Love Actually" and "The Intouchables."
