We just had our first experience with airbnb during our recent vacation. We enjoyed it so much that we decided we wanted to share the same type of experience with other fellow travelers. We love our city of Detroit and want those who visit to leave with the same feeling. This is a very cool loft apartment on the 2nd floor of the Walker Bros. Building located right in the heart of Detroit. For the history buffs out there the building was originally built as the Walker Brothers catering company. Allegedly, this business provided food to many of the car companies in the area. It was later converted into a boxing gymnasium as shown in the photo. Around 2000, the building was converted into lofts by a local developer.
The location is ideal for anyone looking to explore this wonderful city. The apartment is situated right off of highways 75 and 10 (the lodge). Additionally, there is a bus stop right in front of the apartment. The apartment is walking distance to Comerica Park (10 minutes), Ford Field (10 minutes), Fox Theater (10 minutes), Opera House (15 minutes), the Fillmore (12 minutes), Eastern Market (20 minutes), the riverfront (25 minutes) and everything else in downtown. Parking is available so you avoid costly parking fees at main events. For those who like to cook there is a great grocery store (Ye Olde Butcher Shop) located directly across the street from the apartment. Additionally, we are centrally located to many great restaurants, bars, activities (i.e. DIA, Motown Museum, Charles H. Wright Museum, Detroit History Museum, Heidelberg Project), Belle Isle, Pewabic Pottery, etc..,) shops and all things wonderful about this great city. Also, we love giving recommendation about our great city and would be happy to share them with you.
The space available for use is a private bedroom with a queen sized bed. Clean bedding and towels will be provided. The rest of the house is shared including the bathroom (includes a large steam shower), full kitchen, relaxing living room and the best part..,drum roll please... a tranquil roof top deck with tiki bar and grill where you can relax after your day of exploring the Motor City.
The apartment is equipped with cable television and wireless internet (must bring your own computer). Washer and dryer are available if necessary. Parking is available. There is absolutely NO SMOKING in the apartment. MUST LOVE DOGS! We do have a dog (photo attached). Elbie is his name and he can be overwhelmingly cuddly. He has never met a stranger and loves new people. If you don't like dogs than I recommend that you look at other great places to stay in Detroit.
WOMEN and COUPLES ONLY. For any guest that is mobility impaired we do have an elevator but the access is through rough gravel and there is a step to get into the shower.
Amy was a wonderful host! She was really flexible about our traveling plans, plus she had lots of great suggestions of things to do and places we should go in Detroit. The apartment was really nice and in a great location, too. I definitely recommend anyone wanting to explore Detroit to stay here, which is what I plan to do if I return!
Amy and Antonio have a beautiful apartment and were wonderful hosts. I look forward to staying with them again next time I'm in Detroit!
Amy and Antonio were both awesome. They were so flexible with my crazy schedule and incredibly patient when I "checked in" much later than I had expected. Elbie the dog was my best friend and we snuggled probably every second I spent in the apartment. Amy was great at offering me options to do things around Detroit and also letting me have space to relax and sleep. Speaking of sleep - the guest bedroom has no windows and is great for SLEEPING IN (intentionally or not, hah). All in all I had an amazing time in Detroit - the city is great for anyone in the arts and Amy/Antonio are 5-star hosts!
Amy and Antonio's place is beautiful and ideally situated for anyone looking to explore the best of Detroit. Amy was easy to coordinate with and so welcoming, she even made sure to suggest things to do based on our interests. We fell in love with Elbie the dog who quickly welcomed us as part of the family. We look forward to returning to Detroit and highly recommend Amy and Antonio's loft.
I was only in town for 1 night, but Any was extremely nice and accommodating. Their dog is wonderful! Thanks again!
Great spot - amazing loft apartment.
Amy and Antonio were warm, welcoming and had tons to share about Detroit. THANK YOU!
We had a great stay in Detroit with Amy and Antonio. Their location is central and walking distance to lots of things, they're very relaxed and their dog is super cute and friendly.
We had a great time! Would recommend staying with Amy and Antonio!
We had a great time in Detroit; Amy and Antonio's place was lovely and there was much to do. They live in the heart of the city, and it was quick and easy to get everywhere. They were very gracious hosts.
While we did not meet Antonio, Amy was a great host and easy to coordinate with in regards to check in and check out. Their apartment was great and is easily accessible to downtown by foot or cab. And their steam shower? Best shower ever!
