Roxanne was there to meet us when we arrived. She was very pleasant and gave us a tour of the property as well as the interior. She also gave us her cell # to contact her with any of our concerns. This is an old neighborhood. The photos are an accurate representation of the place. There is a chicken coop out back. There is a smell of animal urine if you sit outside; we were told this is from the neighbors house as they have multiple animals.
We noticed the smell of gas when we entered the house. It was also very prominent in the evening, when we came back after being gone all day. One of the bedrooms is located directly off the kitchen, making it difficult to get away from the smell. The kitchen window opens, but there is no screen, so we did not leave it open to prevent animals from coming in (raccoons were heard in chicken coop at night and on the roof one night as well). We mentioned the gas to Roxanne on several occasions, and were told that the oven had just been checked. This did not change our experience. We had difficulty getting hot water in the kitchen, and one morning had no hot water because a circuit had been tripped-thus no showers before leaving for our conference. We had planned on cooking most of our meals at home. This did not happen due to lack of hot water, oven not heating up (I gave it 20 minutes) and the concern around the gas smell. The water in the hot tub was cloudy, and so we chose not to use it. We were excited to hear of bicycles; they were rusty and had flat tires so we rented some from the local bike store instead.
A great place for a relaxing get away! Mark showed us around the place when we arrived and the bikes were fun to have access to.
The Meiners Oak Retreat was a wonderful, artsy, and eclectic place to get away for the weekend. It's in the middle of a quiet, scenic neighborhood in Ojai and walking distance to restaurants and various retail stores. A great place for a relaxing vacation.
We were welcomed when we arrived. The host was flexible with our arrival time. The property was as described. The host was helpful with helping us with other things to do in the area. The beds are very comfortable. It sleeps 9, we had 5 and 9 would have been pretty cozy. They left us fresh eggs from the chickens. The outside shower was rad! While you have the house to yourself there are 2 other units for rent on the property as well as the host & another individual in trailers on-site. The garden is lovely & there is a nice sitting area and firepit.
Everything went as planned. Comfortable beds and clean, homie house. Very unique and mesmerizing place. On a smaller side, so if staying with a group you'll be quite intimate. Well stocked and spacious kitchen. Sara was available and accommodating. Our whole group enjoyed our stay very much.
This place is so super cool! Great vibes and proximity to town. Our group has already talked about making this an annual trip. Loved the outdoor shower!
Lovely neighbourhood and very unique property. Loved the back-to-nature feel of the outdoor showers. Boys enjoyed the pool table and the hot tub. Walking distance to some great places to eat - we visited the Deer Lodge twice!
