The apartment is one of the units in a triplex. It is an end unit and very quiet. My family lives in one of the units and we have a full-time renter in the middle unit.
We are approximately 3 miles from the beach. We are a couple of blocks from the park and Bergamot Station art district. We are about 1 mile to Santa Monica College.
In the neighborhood you can walk to shops, restaurants and Trader Joes. There is also a quaint concert center at McCabes Music Center on Pico. The local bus stops are only a few blocks away. Santa Monica Pier and shopping malls are about 3 miles away.
Free parking in front of apartment.
We have 2 pets, a pappypoo (dog about 10 pounds) and a desert tortoise. We have many fruits and flowers throughout the garden.
Marlene's garden cottage is impeccably clean and well appointed. We really appreciated the fresh fruit bowl there to greet us when we arrived! The garden was lovely - so much to look at and enjoy. The neighborhood is quiet, and close to Pico - a funky street of small independent shops, local coffee shop and the Trader Joe's. We recommend it!
Marlene is very sweet, and the apartment is almost as described. Great location, and probably the comfiest bed I've ever slept in!
The only issue we had is that she has a very strange rule of turning the wifi off whenever she sleeps. She never warned me about this, saying after I had to go search for Internet elsewhere when she didn't reply to my calls that "everyone in America does it", and even though I didn't request it, has since been sending me several emails from opinion websites with pseudoscience about wifi being bad for your health... using her wifi to send me said emails (?)
Putting aside the fact that I have a degree in electronic engineering, specializing in communication technology, and know the science behind why that's silly, it's of course her prerogative to turn off the Internet when she likes but she MUST inform guests of this in advance or write it on her profile, as it's misleading to advertise Internet with such a strange restriction, especially since Airbnb very clearly state that Wireless Internet can be accessed 24/7 if that option is ticked. It was a major inconvenience for me, since I was awake early due to jetlag and really needed to work.
If wifi isn't an issue for you, then ignore this and you'll have a great time staying with her.
Benny I am sorry that you did not inform me about the internet problem. I had told you that if you need anything just call me, I live next door. You never called. When I checked my emails in the morning at 7am I see a message from you saying, "If you don't see this soon, I'll have to phone you." The internet is available 24-7. I will make sure that if anyone needs the internet between the hours of 3am-7am, I will leave it on for them. The majority of the people that stay here do not want the emf's going through them while they are sleeping. I am sorry I sent you the information about the electric magnetic fields. Your girlfriend seemed very interested and I did not have her email address. Please forward the messages to her and I will not send anymore.
We enjoyed our stay at Marlene's very clean and well-appointed place. I was grateful for the coffee available in the morning! Definitely want to go back and try a fresh almond from the tree and other fruits from the garden.
The apartment was beautifully appointed. The living room was quite nice with a cozy couch that became a pull out bed. The kitchen had everything we needed. The bed and bedroom were very pleasing. The bed quite comfortable.
The location turned out to be just right for where we wanted to be. Marlene was friendly and helpful. All in all a great stay!
My husband and I just had an absolutely fantastic stay at Marlene's. We arrived in LA with only a few days to find an apartment for my new job here, and I was incredibly stressed out about getting a lot of things done in a short span of time. Marlene's lovely cottage gave us respite from the stress, and was the perfect place to unwind after long days of running around. The neighborhood is pretty, quiet, and an easy walk to Trader Joe's, local shops, and restaurants. The darling Sachi was a delightful addition to our stay-- nothing brings a smile to my face more quickly than my daily dog visits! I would be happy to come back to this calm, peaceful oasis any time!
Marlene and her husband were very kind and accommodating hosts. Their attention to detail and relaxed approach made for a very comfortable stay. The house is tucked into its own little garden oasis in a nice quiet neighborhood. Would love to come back again and see the garden in full bloom!
